This Book !!!

Let me say first and foremost, this book was all that and more!! I found it very difficult to put this book down. Coka was definitely a product of his environment. Although he was never loved, he tried his best to love Cari and become a decent man. Cari had given all she had to Coka. In return she wanted honesty, love, and trust. She will soon find out that Kookie is not a loyal friend. After all, what friend tells another friend something she knows will destroy her entire world? Ms. Na'kia, this book is well written. Your characters are interesting and have drama filled lives.

more like 2.5

This story was slow repeating the same thing in every chapter. It didn’t move until the end. No drama, no real build up, and then the action all happened at the end. It wasn’t an exciting story but it was ok. At the beginning she said her and the twins were friends since the 4th grade and that 4 years ago, but they were juniors in HS. That didn’t add up at all. Then when talking to Coka she said they knew each other since the 6th grade. I will say that other than that it wasn’t many errors that I noticed so I give credit there.
What made the book interesting is what a lot of authors do and that’s make the MFC seem like this strong individual. Since I love seeing mentally strong black women in stories I get attached, but then they turn them into every other female character not doing anything with their lives. Cari seemed like she had a plan for her life she talked about being different and making it out of the projects, but then all of a sudden that changed after getting with Cairo. Now all of a sudden you don’t want to go to college. Using the excuse of getting a job and helping her mom with the bills is now a priority. It talked about dude making money from his lifelong dreams of being a drug dealer and making money. But it’s like Cari just decided she was gone live off him I guess because we didn’t get an update on what she’s doing with life after graduation. Not even the job to help her mother. 🙄🙄 This made me no longer care for her character, she didn’t stand on nothing but not getting played by another dude. I get they’re young but that’s why I don’t like reading coming of age books. I thought the author was going to jump ahead at least 5-10 years but even now they’re still kids. I wouldn’t have read this if I knew they were going to stay teens the whole time. I thought the beginning was just like the back story of how they got together and then we would jumps years ahead, but nope.
But for real this story was kind of boring. If the author hadn’t taken so much time repeating the same thing over and over, and removed some of the sex scenes the story could’ve reached the climax a lot sooner. Probably don’t need a part 2 for real. Idk if I’ll read part two, it doesn’t seem worth it. Just another book about a drug dealer and a girl being kept by him aw and cheating, and then begging to come back.

I ended up giving this book a 2.5/5. It's a review that I feel I should start off with saying that just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it won't be fantastic for someone else. There were a few things that took away from this book for me. The main one being that the majority of the book the main characters were 17 but there was no lack of descriptive spice. I have no issue with spice AT ALL. New Adult spice is pushing the limit for me but something about 17 just felt...off. And the MMC being 17 and messing with a 23 year old woman...another thing that was off for me.

I also don't have a major issue with the cheating trope but it just seemed like it was a MAJOR theme in this book. One of the FMCs best friends was known for messing with other girl's boyfriends, the twin of that girl broke up with her ex because he was a cheater, and the MMC at some point was a cheater. And of course it was normalized for the men to be promiscuous but the one girl that was portrayed that way was constantly called out of her name. The virginal good girls were the ones that were praised.

The last thing was how (and this is just my opinion) stupid these girls were! One girl KNOWS that a guy she messed with has a girlfriend known for fighting side chicks and sleeps with the guy anyway. Apparently it is a regular occurrence that she does what she wants and drags her sister and the FMC into situations to have to fight with or for her. Most notably her previously mentioned decision ended up getting the FMC jumped. The other twin broke up with her boyfriend because she wasn't ready for sex and the boyfriend cheated and had 2 kids while they were still in high school. Not only that, the baby mama was living with him at his mama's house. But he was sooooo in love with her so she loses her virginity to him...while he's still in that situation. The MMC is stringing along this adult woman to have somewhere to live after she confesses she has feelings for him (and he continues to sleep with her) but is "getting to know" the FMC. Not one ounce of common sense in the bunch.

I ended up reading this book as part of a book club read and I think a few of the other members really liked this book. Again, this is just my opinion and doesn't mean you won't enjoy the book.

Straight 🔥

Ohhhhh this book so lit. Man I love Coka but he just disappointed the hell outta me. I could expect this kinda stuff from Tae but not , although nobody's perfect. Cari been down like 4flats since the beginning and I hate how betrayed her love and her trust. I just pray that because she was hurt she didn't let Kookie talk her into doing something crazy. I wonder who could have set him up. I like Butta but I love Kookie. They twins but are very different, but they both are some true best friends to Cari. They always got each other's back. I can't wait for part two cause so many scenarios are playing in my head. This book was all that and a bag of chips.💗💗

Not my usual read

I usually don't read books about teens acting grown, nothing against the genre of books just not my cup of tea. However this book is that but it's not at the same time, even though it's fiction there's so much truth in Coka's story, all of them really but his the most. Very good read.

Ok so first off I love this book. But is it wrong for me to think that Zo might actually slip up and forgive kookie? And I was so disappointed that Butts forgave Tae but then again I get it. And I know for sure Cari gone pull through.

Then also not many people’s have access to his car so I think it’s between Kookie and that nigga Tae for some reason.

This was good! It kind of dragged out for me but none the less, it was a good book. Not too much drama happened and I was looking for some to pop off. I'll read part to do I can get closure but I hope it's b better than part one.

This was so good. I hate that Cairo messes up with Cari. Although she said she forgave him she really didn’t and even though he said he was sorry, which I feel he meant she wasn’t ready. Let’s get to part 2.

The Ville!!

I enjoyed this story about Cari and Coka. Cari was a smart girl and fell for Coka. Coka was street but was also hurt by his parents and made him grow up quick. Although these two were young they brought the best in each other. I also love Butta and Kookie along with Tae and Zo.
