Next volume... Okay max (oops did I forget to capitalize name? yep, learned that from author!!) was made for the Alpha. I will note some confusion over book one vs book two—as noted book one” had character from Napierville and book two has character growing up in Naperville. Progress? So many editing errors from a former editor! Just imagine quotation marks randomly sprinkled. POV unclear. Okay, it’s a mess. However, I liked Max better than Leo, thought they’re (I also learned from author that one can use an incorrect form of a word and not correct it” was more realism in how Max reacted to events. One more to go....virus means no holiday so I’ll just catch up on reading :)
I like this series. It is longer in length than the others. Curious as to how Max made to the hotel that night. And even more curious to see if fate will continue to work her magic!
A pair of brothers both similar and quite different from each other. The Bay Harbor Wolf pack Alpha had his injured mate literally fall into his lap. His pervasiveness and rage almost led to his Wolf breaking free & reeking havoc. Luckily his brother was able to take charge and keep everyone away from the the furious Alpha including his own mate who coincidentally was the brother of the Alpha's assaulted mate.
These Wolves don't play around. They are fierce and vicious in the way they go about taking care of their mates, the pack, and in their business dealings when called for.The Alpha needed time for his mate to heal before he felt confident enough to explain to his Human mate that he was a ferocious Black Wolf shifter.
What I find surprising and interesting about the second book in the Bay Harbor series is that it dealt with the fear of mental illness. It discusses the dangers of staying in your own head, not believing beyond your own ken of knowledge, and finally learning to trust & listen to those closest to you.
Max is being threatened and harrassed by his Uncle Raymond who wanted total control of the hotels that were left to him by Max's father. When it comes out that Raymond is basically a gangster he loses all his respect, his business partners, and the hotels to his nephews, Max and Leo. Raymond wants revenge and attempts to kill Max.
When Max arrives at Henrik's penthouse severely beaten Henrik realizes that Max is his mate and he must protect him at all costs.
Henrik is protective and the Alpha of his pack. He also has a sweet heart. Max has always been strong and responsible and taken care of his brother Leo. After all the harrassment by his Uncle he's tired of it all and just wants to rest and for things to be easy for a change.
Max and Henrik make a great couple. I like their chemistry together, but really wish I felt their emotions more deeply instead of more on the surface.
My only complaint is that (especially towards the end) there were more and more extra or missing words in sentences and more and more typos.
Yes couldn't stop at just the first in the series, I had to read the second, too. Shows you that I am enjoying this series but I'll stop at two today. I have other books on my tbr to read so moving on...
Before I go quick rundown of Alpha.
Henrik finds that his mate is Leo's brother, Max. Max is fleeing Chicago and his Uncle Raymond, who has made threats against him and his brother. On the way to Bay Harbor he is ambushed by Raymond and bodyguard thug (Jackal), who beat him and leave him for dead. Somehow, mysteriously, Max finds himself safely in Bay Harbor in Henrik's home with his brother Leo.... ....at this point I leave you to read the novel to find out the rest of the story. This series is worth of a read if you like shifter romance, fantasy/paranormal stories. These are quick and entertaining.
In this story the Alpha finds his mate, the older brother of the man his brother mated in the previous book. Both the human men were in danger from an uncle who wanted first to take away their inheritance and when that didn't work he hired jackal shifters to kill them. It was so relentless that it took two books and both of their mates to finally get the human mates completely claimed and safe. This is another series from B.A. Stretke who writes such entertaining gay paranormal stories about vampires, dragons and wolves. Always a good read.
My review for this is similar to my review for the first book. Max and Henrik were a little less impulsive compared to their brothers so their relationship took a bit more time but, again, conversations between them that could have shown the reader their connection and given them more character were summarized instead of written out.
Sweet story now my mind wants to know how Max wound up at Henricks. Low angst is a easy read. It did take me a couple days only because I am not one for action suspense but I did not read the ending first so that's good🤣🤣
Following Max and Henrik’s story after the ending off book 1 was very intrigued to see how this would go. Didn’t like it as much as the first but still interested in the series and reding about the others finding their mates.
Love the brothers with brothers story line!!! they are perfect together and I hope that all the questions regarding Uncle Raymond are going to be answered
I love Henrik and Max relationship. Poor Max and Leo having to deal with their shitty uncle. Max poor baby is a strong one tho. Henrik is little under max finger and probably would do anything for Max if he asked.

This book was was excellent and I truly loved the intensity of the relationship between Max and Henrik. I was thoroughly pulled into the story and remained quite enthralled from beginning to end. I appreciated that the author had mentioned the Del Coronado Hotel since San Diego is my hometown and the Del Coronado is really beautiful so it was easy to imagine. The writing was well done and I was definitely satisfied by how Max's uncle was dealt with. I'm so excited to read the next book in this amazing series. Totally awesome. :D
I always enjoy B.A. Stretke work, between vampires and shifters it is always a great read. I was engrossed in the way this book played out. How did Max get to Bay Harbor? I read them in the wrong order so Volume 4 will be my next read.
