This is a prime example of not judging a book by its cover. Quan is known for using catchy titles to sell books that have an awesome storyline that unsuspecting from the title but this was not the case with this read. The book was a good read I just kept waiting to get to the coldest thug and it never happened. It seems that maybe a part 2 was available but I can’t find it and I would love to see how this title ties in. I really loved Dru so I’m invested. I will definitely read a part 2 but this book wasn’t as good as others I’ve read by this author.

Mismatch title and storyline

I gave the book a rating of a two because it was not a page turner for me but if I start reading a book, I normally finish it. I felt bad for the way Shalanda treated one son over the other. I didn't care for the fact that Andrew resorted to using drugs when he finally had enough of his mom's abuse. We have a society full of African Americans who resort to drugs to try to fix their problems. The book left too many questions like why didn't Andrew's dad tell his son the truth about why he was incarcerated when he talked to him alone? Was Shalanda an addict? There had to be a reason to treat her son the way she did other than how she felt for his dad. Why did Taqwan have to go live with his grand parents all of a sudden? What made Shalanda so fearful of Rahzel that she did a complete 360 with her son? I am still waiting for the part of where Andrew becomes a thug because it did not happen in this book.

If there is going to be a part two make sure to incorporate the answers to those questions.

Also have Andrew finish school and became a surgeon then maybe have an empire on the side where he has side to him that no one would suspect like a drug empire or him beating up rapist or abusers after what happened to Amirah. Keep your readers wanting more!

Dangerous when I’m Mad!

Dru was a young kid and just trying to feel loved. His mammy Shalanda was not shid. She was loud, ignorant and treated Drunso bad, like a dog in the streets. Dru was very smart, straight a student and after getting past the bullies he enjoyed school. Tyrone one of the bullies who constantly harassed Dru. Between the kids at school and his mother Dru us ready to snap until he meets sooo as Rhazel, smooth and able to check his momma, Dru likes this dude. Rhazel knew his dad and he tries to spit the truth to Dru. Confused, angry and also ready to snap Dru is one second away to be on top of Shalanda’s head. When he does snap, she is shook. Dru continues to be tested and when he finally makes one friend at school Amiyah, he will turn cold when she is hurt by someone he despises. Shalanda was a piss poor excuse of a mother and should never be called one. Dru’s brother left to go live with his grandparents.Dru’s dad is in prison and Shalonda has ceased all visits. When Dru finally asked Rhazel to help him get rid of someone, Rhazel will asks the same. Du knows once he do this b will never be the same and if he gets caught he will be with his dad. You’ll see if he chooses the right path!

The real deal

I enjoyed reading this story. I hated how Dru grew up without his father because he was in prison and his mother acting as if she had no love for him at all. How can parents treat their children so differently because of the color of their skin or because one is overweight and the other one isn’t. Dru was going places and really had a promising future but he just couldn’t get a break, but Karma is something else. I like the culminations of the story because Tyrone got what he deserved, that was some street justice.

Black and Ugly as I wanna be

I definitely give Quan 5 stars for this one. I admired Andrew's incredible intellect and for putting up with his awful Mother. He may have been overly rude to his mom, but she deserved it and more. Instead of encouragement she gave him pain. Andrew needed to follow Biggie Smalls logic when Biggie said "Black and Ugly As I Wanna Be. I was glad to see Andrew develops his own Strength. I enjoyed Quan's writing style and will definitely read more of his books.

Captivating

I chose this rating because not only do I believe a man shouldn't hit a woman, truly a child shouldn't hit a parent. As vile as she maybe.
The mechanics, spelling needs to be edited closer. However, once you get pass that the story line is amazing. Unfortunately some parents speak that way to their children about what they see as flaws. Once you hear that negativity so much one begins to believe. Its always great to have some one that believes in you and gives you positive energy.

Highly disappointed

This was not a page turner for me! I only continued because I cannot leave anything unfinished once I start. Maybe if there was a part 2 it may have made more sense. The book itself was all over the place to me with nothing resolved. It felt unfinished I actually went looking for a part 2 because it felt as if I was reading a book one because the story just felt continuous. Plus the characters didn’t connect to the storyline or have/add any substance to them at all. The title of the book is very misleading and doesn’t match the book at all.

I can relate

I liked the book because I can relate to someone disliking you and not knowing why. Just looking for some form of acceptance and not getting it, really hit home for me. I recently seen a cousin of mine, who I hadn't seen in over 20 yrs because his mom use to abuse me. It brought back a ton of memories that I don't like to think of. When he got beat with the extension cord, I was like WTF...cuz that happened to me too. The world of emotions was crazy reading this, I didn't kill anyone but I had my fair share of crime. Very good read

This read is so good. Dru has a lot to deal with, mom being physically and mentally abusive. His classmates making fun of him. I was so he laid hands on his mom when he was high, she deserved that. I feel so sorry for Amirah, hopefully she will pull through this. It’s time for Dru to man up. I can’t wait too see the man that he turns into. Please don’t keep us waiting too long for next installment.

Good

This book had some really good points then at times it’s like it read slow I’m sure it’s a build up to what’s to come I felt very sorry for Dru though his mother need her butt beat from the way that she did him n the sad part is that it’s so many kids reality I hope that he gets all he needs out of life n more n the next book I hate he was pushed to become something other than what he wanted for himself

Unrealized potential

The first half of this novel was disappointing. Senseless, stupid profanity, a narrative like the movie Precious, only with a young man as the main character. An absolutely disrespectful son to a poorly developed mother character.
There was much potential when Dru met mom’s Five Per center friend and boss, and later Amirah, but these relationships were not developed and the ending was premature and very unsatisfying. A disappointing read.

Not sure how I feel about this one

This was a really crazy story, from the beginning I was hooked the author went fro your emotions right away and it works bcz I was hooked, Andrew is the main and he's 13 dads in jail for life and his momma treats him like she hates him literally. If I write anymore it will make no sense for you to read I will say if your not frying before chapter 3 maybe your a cold ass mofo lol
Well happy reading

Painful

What I dislike about it was how Shalonda was mean and hateful towards her son Dru !! I hate that Dru self esteem was so low but I can relate but I have never went to the extent he did ! I hate Raz because he could’ve been a better mentor and not kill Dru’s dream and I hate what happen to Lil mama but I can say overall Dru grew some balls and I guess you can say justice was served!

I love the plot of the story but needs work

I love the story line but the problem is that your repeating the same things over and over to stretch the story out. That alone makes it less interesting because your constantly reading the same thing over and over. Be more creative and the book can be amazing. Also we’re a lot of typos. An editor should go over this for you because there were many occasions were I had to put two and two together to figure out what’s being said.

Quan|Colby: This dude uses the n-word (book titles in and his books) like he’s Black! He is not Black or of African descent. He is WHITE. His other pen name is Colby Durden (Thotiana) and the books are atrocious. They’re full of racist stereotypes, how Black women live, act, etc. I think he truly hates Black women|people. Peep all the made up ghetto sounding names. Support Black authors not this racist dude. 0 Stars

Fire🔥🔥🔥

My heart broke for Dru! He was so talented and would have had such a promising future if it wasn't for Shalonda! The groundwork has been laid to make the Coldest Thug Ever! Quan Millz is a amazing and talented author who makes you really feel and love his characters. I cannot walt for Part 2!

A Young Thug Is Born

This was a good book, I hope A’mirah can come out of her coma with no problems. I sorry Dru has to grow up and do man stuff before his time. All his dreams of becoming a Dr is gone after shooting Tyrone, I just hope after risking his life for her they will be together.

Waiting

I feel like the author spent too much time on Dru' s hatred for Shalonda. We get it, she was abusive physically and verbally. We get halfway through and we're finally moving on. Then it seems the story is rushed. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen but I got nothing. This story just wasn't that interesting to me.

More than I bargained for

Apparently, I thought I was reading the wrong story, but the content was captivating. A lot of what came up, I wasn't expecting. That's big for me because I can usually tell what's happening next as I read. I definitely wish there was so much more to this story.

Enjoyed

I really enjoyed this book. I wanna know what happens next. His momma is something else though and why did his brother leave. I wonder why the mother treated the two so different. He finally tryna stand up and become a man. I have a feeling he gonna become something they can't control.

Too smart to be so stupid

The author could have made his point without the tedious repetition. The main character made too many stupid choices to keep this reader empathetic or interested in the outcome. All that reading and words of wisdom shared by his father were flushed. I definitely will not read any more of this series.

A Home Run!!!!

A winner from the start. I love writers who take the time and really make you feel as though you are a part of the action. With each page I anticipated the next page. I would love to read a part two to this story. I see promise in your career. Just know I will be waiting.

Wow what a read

I enjoyed this book. But some crazy stuff in it. For a mother to feel the way she feel about a child is crazy. I hope there is a second part to this because this boy need his father to get out of prison fast. I don't no when he gets out but if there is a part 2... I hope he gets out and beat the crap out of this mother cause she is one sick b--ch.

So the beginning of the book was fantastic then it started to dwindle a bit when Dru met Rahzel the details weren't jumping off the page for me it wasn't as vivid. But I can appreciate the authors work and I would definitely purchase more books from the author again. This was a hot read.
