The Ascendancy Saga Continues!
While the Confederations Central Council and High Command face the consequences of the inspectors treachery, Michael and his team continue to raise Earth’s profile among its neighbors. A trade deal is started. Numerous new Transluminide claims are filed. The Space Force fleet grows.
But when disaster strikes, can Earth rise to save the Confederation?
D. Ward Cornell lives on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. His career as an engineer, consultant, and entrepreneur has taken him all over the world. Many of those places and elements of those cultures are featured in his writing.
Although still dabbling in those fields, his passion now is bring stories to life.
The author is talented and when his writing is focused on the actual scifi aspects, it is quite good. A couple of things he does though I find very annoying. He has written a series of books which form a linear timeline and sequence of events. The fact that he spends a good deal of time rehashing information from previous books makes it difficult to not skim over a lot of the dialogue. You don’t need to spend multiple pargraphs re-introducing characters that we already know about from the previous books. Another annoying aspect of his writing are the “tv interviews”. He uses this waaaay too much. It seems very gimmicky and lame to be honest. I’m really trying to love these books because the author has great potential. There are good creative aspects to the scify writing which are completely offset by the cheesy interviews and the regurgitation. I mean seriously, I’m to the point now where as soon as I see the name Chef Marco I’m ready to start skipping pages.
This book, like the previous two, was fast paced and intense with a lot going on at the same time. The things that I did not like about it were, like in books 1 and 2, there was little to no mention of the other planets and species in the "Confederation" that is supposedly thousands of years old. The book tended to alternate between telling the story of efforts to deal with the "enemy' and domestic things like Michael and Sarah's romance, and the setting up of a financial entity to manage trade between the planets. So there are times when things get excited about the war efforts and the story will cut to domestic stuff.
I liked the book/story but I was not overwhelmed with it. I will now move on to book #4.
3rd installment in the series continues to develop the characters and plot.
Good plot and character continue the story line that will keep the reader wanting more. Only pro tem is the number of plot lines is becoming significant, the author does a good job moving all the plot lines along, but it becomes difficult to track them all. Main story continues to develop so that the reader continues to find out the back stories of the characters. I am hoping the story !one keeps up this level of performance.
I think the aliens are being too human in this book. This story other wise is a very interesting entertaining fast paced action packed story that I really enjoyed reading.
Emergence is just an amazing piece work. The dialogue is tight and relevant and I never felt like skimming. The rise of Space Force and the problems in the confederation were very believable. I have moved well past any disbelief of the various dimensional devices.... they are well delivered and applied to the Enemy. The battles with the enemy are exciting and unusual...and the tactics were also. So clever! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the 3 books series.
With multiple story threads this can be a complicated book should a reader delay too long. That said, the plots move forward well enough and are resolved in reasonable time, most completing by the end of this installment. Development continues for existing characters and new characters are added as time and resources require. This book comes to a comfortable ending and I look forward to the next in the series.
It is a great pleasure to read a fist contact book where the advanced race is helpful and altruistic instead of yet another battle story where you know the ending before you begin. I highly recommend reading thease 3 books. These books are quite different and very enjoyable.
This series has really captured my imagining of what it would look like, feel like and the implications for human destiny when we are finally introduced to the rest of the universe. This series covers all aspects of lives, thoughts and spirituality and describes them in the only feasible way that doesn’t result in the annihilation of humanity.
Book seems to drag on. Lost interest and couldn't finish
So much repetitive exposition and history. Written in an almost encyclopedic way without suspense. I read the previous 2 books and felt the same way. I'd hoped the writing style would improve. Stopped about 1/3 through.
I am beyond impressed with the storyline. Also, the fluid way characters are introduced. The rise of initial characters to take on extreme challenges is one of the human traits we’ve seen throughout history. Great read! I continue to look forward to the next book!
This was a great book to read and I’m glad there is at least one more in the series. Character development was good throughout the series so far, but I tend to lose track sometimes when there are a lot to remember.
These are fun books, perfect for those who want to wander into a future we would all choose - even though there are dangers to be faced. I thoroughly enjoy some of the theoretical questions that come up as well. Well worth the read.
Loved this book and the continued information about different planets and races. Glad to see them introduce different species and showing that the humans are important to the universe
How would a fledgling human species do in a Confederation spanning 3 galaxies and a million inhabited worlds? Quite well. With a little help, some native genius, and the threat of an inter dimensional enemy. Great read.
As the saying goes, if you like this sort of reading, then you are going to love this. Some will not like this because of too many moving parts. On the other hand, this is so addictive to me because I love it. Ready to jump into book 4.
The Earth is safe, a least for a while. Hopfully, Mr. Cornell is working on book four of Ascendancy. I will pre-order number four when it becomes a reality.
I am really enjoying the series. It is interesting, reading science fiction that highlights human potential (as opposed to being subservient and conquered).
So much enjoyment in one series! I'm always saying, "This is the best" until the next one shows up!! Unusual and not your same old space book. Aliens that are kind and helping people to grow and excel.
