He may be an ace on the mound but when it comes to talking to girls, he can barely get out two words. Until she comes along.

Ben Clark is a shy overachiever, not something anyone expects from Rosemont's star pitcher. He's got an internship at a physical therapy clinic and it's the one thing besides baseball that he can talk about nonstop. When Serena comes in during his shift for therapy, he's surprised at how easy it is to talk to her. Even though they come from different family life, they have a lot more in common than he expected, and he finds himself falling for the volleyball player.

Serena Gates lives to play volleyball, something her mother wishes she would give up. She'll give up boys before she'd stop playing that is until she gets injured in a match. Now she has to spend her summer doing therapy and hoping she's recovered by the time her junior year rolls around. But with Ben as her assistant trainer, she finds herself falling for the athlete, even if her dad wishes he was a football player.
But when their fears are tested, will their relationship survive the summer? Or will they just count it as a fling?

Britney Mills was born in Utah but parts of her heart lie in Boston, Washington D.C. and Germany. Her love of writing began with the third grade book her teacher assigned her to write and she spent hours hidden behind her mother’s couch writing pages and pages about knights and castles.
Most of her time consists of taking care of her young son and triplets but writing keeps her sane as she travels along on the adventures of characters to come.
When she’s not mothering, writing or reading, she’s probably out playing a sport, going on a hike, or binge watching some kind of murder mystery show. She is a fan of chick flicks and adventure/action stories in books and movies, and can even get her cowboy husband to watch along with her.

A lovely story about young adults and life. Short but well worth the read.

I loved so many things about this book.

The banter between Serena and Ben was great. I loved how shy he was at first and how he stuttered. It was nice seeing a main male character who wasn't a smooth talker. At first Serena seemed a bit like some of the athletes I knew back in school - skated by because she was a top athlete, never really needing to put in too much effort to be able to pass. But then I began to realize that it was because she didn't think anyone cared really if she passed or not.

I wish there had been a bit more description of the families, especially Serena's. I didn't initially get that her dad was a football player and that her mom was a fashion designer. Things weren't laid out nice and neat for me and I had to hope that there was some more information later in the book. I did like that Ben's family included a brother with special needs instead of a sibling with a behavioral problem.

The dialogue in the book was great and there were times where I wanted to smack both of them upside the head. And there were also times where the book tended to drag just a bit. But overall it was fantastic and I very much enjoyed it.

This was the second book in a series, but can completely be read as a standalone. Yes, some of the characters overlapped since they were all part of the same friend group, but there is no reason that you should feel lost if you haven't read the first book.

Another wonderful story by the author. Each of her stories seem to focus on real issues. It’s not about how much money someone has, or how much power, it’s about the things that matter – how you treat a person, how you deal with your faults and how you let it affect your choices. This is the story of Serena and Ben. Serena is a volleyball player who has it good – friends, money, and two parents who don’t seem to make time for her. Ben is a pitcher for the HS baseball team who is very shy and very uncomfortable being around girls. He finds it very difficult to strike up a conversation. However, when he runs into Serena, he feels an instant attraction to her. Serena feels the same way about Ben, but because both of them are dealing internally with being the “perfect” version as they are seen, they both think it’s not possible the other wants to actually be around them.

There are so many ups and downs throughout this story. Because of these ups and downs, both characters were able to grow and see what was really important. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy through Booksprout ARC’s for an honest review.

I am not a huge fan of YA novels but I enjoy Britney Mills’ stories so thought I’d give this series a try. This is the second book in the series that I’ve read and my favourite thus far. Clean and sweet, it highlights some of the realities of young adults finding there way in life, experiencing some of the challenges that life as an adult brings while still trying to figure out who and what they want to be. It also looks at the important aspects of any relationship, whether new or old, and what is important to keeping it healthy and happy. Money doesn’t make you happy - material things don’t last forever. It’s the time spent together, supporting one another’s goals - the hopes and dreams - that forge true and lasting friendships. Along with this, although it might sound like a cliche, is communication!
I think this is something that the author highlighted well in this story.
I look forward to seeing what her next one will bring.

I was obsessed with the first half of this book. I love a stuttering, awkward MMC ❤️ He was so honest and innocent and perfect for Serena who had recently had her heartbroken. But then the second half of the book seemed to fumble a bit. There were weird things here and there like a paragraph was suddenly in 3rd person. Or for some reason Serena kept calling Ben’s mom Mrs. Gates (her mom’s name) instead of Mrs. Clark. Sometimes it got confusing whose POV it was even though it was stated at the beginning of the chapter because of some grammatical errors. It was these simple errors that would pull me out of the book. Also just a personal thing, I felt like Serena didn’t give Ben enough grace 😅 but I know it had to do with her own insecurities.

Overall I enjoyed reading this cute, clean romance.

This is a sweet high school romance about a baseball player and a volleyball player. Both committed to their sports but also trying to find time for each other. I really liked the character of Ben. He is a shy kid with a stutter and some anxiety and perfectionist issues. He definitely need to work on putting too much importance on baseball, but that’s typical of a high schooler. Serena is a feisty and sarcastic girl, so she’s kind of a funny match for a shy boy like Ben. They have issues to work through, which again is typical for a relationship but especially a high school relationship. The book has a very sweet HFN ending and I hope for an HEA further down the line for these two.

This is the second installment of the Rosemont High Baseball series. I typically don't read YA stories, but Ms. Mills does them so well, and does such a great job of focusing on real issues, I've definitely developed a liking for them. Serena and Ben are wonderful characters. Ben is a little shy and has some anxiety issues, while Serena is his total opposite. An odd pairing, but also perfect for each other. They both also have their personal issues to deal with. I enjoyed watching these characters grow and develop and realize what is really important in life and in a relationship. A very sweet and clean story that will warm your heart. Loved this installment and looking forward to the next one!

This book was so much fun. The characters showed lots of growth throughout the story. Even the side characters became better as the novel went on. I loved the ups and downs of Ben and Serena’s relationship. I liked how they admitted to their faults and overall made the other a better person. The story was wonderfully written. I had so much reading it. At points, I was totally for Serena’s view and then suddenly switched my opinion to like Ben better. The characters, story, and writing were strong and this is a story worth reading.

Serena was the neglected daughter of a pro football player and a fashion designer and played volleyball for the school team. Ben was a talented pitcher for the school’s baseball team and was a perfectionist with the things he did. When Ben asked Serena out things went slow but fun. But their lives became problematic for their relationship the more Serena and Ben began to like each other. Personal problems, parents, miscommunication, misunderstanding and age take part in keeping Serena and Ben’s relationship from reaching its potential until the moment they realize what really matters. Good read

I Highly Recommend This!
Ben suffers from anxiety, likely exacerbated by a father who is so demanding that it falls into the category of verbally abusive. Like many boys with fathers like this, he now stutters.
Serena is chronically ignored by her parents and suffers abandonment issues. Since her folks offer her a lavish lifestyle, she is left feeling guilty for her feelings.
This is a book that explores deep issues and yet has that Britney Mills ray of sunshine peeking through the story. I loved it!

I enjoyed this sweet high school love story that still dealt with real life issues such as feeling abandoned by our loved ones, not meeting expectations, Down's Syndrome, and perfectionism. I enjoyed Serena and Jake sweetly getting to know one another through her therapy. I also felt Serena's frustrations as Jake need for perfection stopped him from being all of who he could be. I loved his realization that perfectionism wasn't needed in order to live life to the fullest.

Cute YA sports romance. Ben is shy and focussed on becoming an even better pitcher. Serena is a volleyball player who ends up at the physical therapy clinic where Ben is working as an intern. One thing leads to another. Unfortunately life likes to throw curveballs!
A story about relationships, parenting, ambitions...
Clean, sweet romance.

This is such a sweet book. I love how shy Ben is and how much he adores his little brother. Serena is spunky and just looking for someone who will want to spend time and energy with her. Both Serena and Ben show a ton of maturity and work so well through their problems during the story. This story was fun to read.

A good clean YA romance about a baseball player overcoming his shyness to ask out the girl of his dreams; and the girl of his dreams facing her problems with her grades, injuries and parents.
I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it.

Differences can be an attraction

In times like we are living this is the example of the fact we don't have to be alike to be attracted to each other. I loved how Ben went out of his comfort zone to get his girl.

For the second book in the series, I loved how the characters were so different from book one. It was refreshing and entertaining and see young love from a different set of people with different problems to work though. Another fun, light read.

Really enjoyed the characters, Serena and Ben have problems lots of teenagers do. A great story for YA facing problems that teens go through in high school. Sports, family problems and of course dating are just some of what the characters deal with. The author does a great job of solving the issues while still keeping the story fun and interesting. A sweet clean romance that as a parent you are content with your teen reading. Britney Mills writes great stories for adult and teens that are sure to wrap you in the pages and that are clean reads. I love everything I’ve read by her!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
