Alex’s last clear memory was of racing into battle, on a desperate mission of mercy. Before waking up with a collar of steel about his neck, stripped of all weapons and armor, soon to be sold at auction.
Never had Alex faced such steep hurdles to achieving his dreams. Never had he been more determined to make those dreams come true.
So marks the beginning of a perilous journey that would see Alex facing down vile slavers, corrupt merchants, ferocious spirit beasts, and bloodthirsty cultivators eager to see him fall.
No matter what it took, Alex was determined to reach Dragon Academy and learn the cultivator’s arts.
Because in a world where strength was everything, only the strong could truly be free.

I read some of the reviews for this book before reading it, and while I understand where they're coming from, I have to disagree with the three reviews posted here so far. Each one had a different reason why the book stunk, but I don't see it that way. I think this was an excellent book, and while I completely understand why the other reviewers wrote what they did, I can't agree with their points of view. The main character has a moral code that doesn't allow him to just stand by while bad things he can prevent are happening to others. Especially if he can do something about it, even if that something might get him killed. I might balk at this if the main character only acted like this when it was convenient for him, but all through the book, the main character never once hesitated to do what he thought was right, even when that something would land himself into a world of hurt. You have to admire courage like that. I'm not sure the main character should have meekly accepted is fate at the end of the book, I'd have been spitting and fighting for every scrap of recognition that was owed, while he just meekly accepted a completely wrong assessment, but honestly, that's the only gripe I had with the book. This was a very good story, and while it may have been a bit longwinded at times, I'm not sure any of it could have been cut out and still maintain the depth and breadth the story currently has. It might be considered slow in places, and as evidenced by the reviews I read before picking it up, some folks didn't like the main character's actions, but it certainly looked to me like the main character acted true to form in every encounter he had with others, perhaps with one interaction with the merchant, and thescene at the end as I pointed out before, but in all other cases, the main character acted exactly as his moral compass said he should, and I personally can find no fault with it. If you're a fan of the cultivation LitRPG books, you will probably find this one a slow but enjoyable read. If you want more typical LitRPG scenes, then you might want to steer clear of this one, as it doesn't offer much in the way of standard LitRPG elements, (levels, skills, spells, advancement, and so on). There is obviously some of the skill advancement, and some of it is interesting, but progress is relatively slow, as is the story in places, but when it's done, I think most fans will agree it was well written, and while it may not flow as nicely as some other books in this genre, I find no fault with the way the author handled the story. With a bit more flavor/robustness, this could easily have rated a 4 star in my book, but again, I'm not sure how that could have been accomplished, since the story stands well on it's own as is. I liked it, and fully intend to read the next one when it comes out.
First book was good, now the main character is just constantly making ridiculous decisions because he sees a pretty girl. Its just a very lazy plot device that takes away from the enjoyability of the book. Will not be continuing the series
This one is such a huge disappointment after what I felt was a four-star first volume.
It's like the author took everything that wasn't great about the first one (pretentious and muddled mysticism, hackneyed racism, characters making obviously stupid choices, etc...) and expanded it, mixed in a bunch of extraordinarily obvious foreshadowing and MC nerfing, and got rid of the personal relationships that made the first volume fun. This could use some serious editing for continuity and maybe a bit of extra thought about plot choices.
I still feel compelled to read the next one, and hold out some hope that it improves, but I'm not holding my breath for it.
A sampling of notes that I jotted down while reading:
"lazy plotting" "continuity fail" "truly garbage Deus Ex Machina" "both melodramatic and stupid" "repetitive" "pretentious, self indulgent, incoherent mess" "inconsistent with previously stated stats" "nonsensical nonsense" "how many times can we use the word 'transcended' in one scene" "literally no justification for this 'maxed out stats' claim" "fourth time he's said this without justification"
Hard to root for a MC that is such a subservient idiot. The only action in the story is forced by his bad decisions. The antagonists are caricatures of bad guys.
Edit: I raised it to 2 stars as I decided to give the 3rd book a try. Turns out this is a bad arc of the story that just ends poorly without the MC redeeming himself. He does that through the 3rd book. Still wouldn't recommend this as a series to start with western wuxia genre but if like me, you read pretty much all you found in this genre, give it a try. The 1st and 3rd book are entertaining. This one is hard to get through with all the moronic decisions made by the MC.
A MC that in the first book would sacrifice without thought left women to be raped and die while he keeps playing a good submissive slave.
The previous book he had so much plot armor and power he'd defeat people well above his level but this book he is just a beta fuckboy who plays like a little Male cocksleeve instead of quickly and easily killing the guy who had a leg up on him. (Which the MC would have done in the first book)
A story the author twisted and completely discarded logic hard to make as cringey and repulsive as possible as a cheap and vile way to illicit an emotional response.
It completely undos the development we had to suffer through the repeated pathetic submissiveness and false humility of the MC in the first book to get.
He's gone from being an over powered and righteous guy in the last book to a pathetic coward beta bitch in the second who had the power to save people but completely contrary to his personality in the first book allows others to suffer terribly for many days before the scumbag finally gets the courage to do something about the repulsive injustice
I find this book completely unpalatable. I feel my time was completely wasted on his first book with how crappy he ended it and then dropped this puke of a sequel on us and do not recommend the story to you if you dislike rape, slavery, beta protagonists, and cheating or "NTR" (the silver wolf who is constantly glorified in this is a scumbag who took another man's wife and brags about it... the main female character is a descendant of that infidelity... I should have stopped reading when I found that out but I foolishly continued trying to give the author another try)

The first 20% is good if tiring. Dwelling on evil rapists doing sadistic rapist things is tiring and for some reason a popular addition to novels where authors want a splash of horror. I’d rather skip it.
The next 50% is a travel montage from any JRPG. It could have been done in 3 chapters, but just kept going in decent slice of life kinda way but completely at odds with and action novel and the kinda fantasy this has been so far.
The ending is strong, really good, so good I’m looking forward to reading the next when at the halfway point I was thinking of taking a break from this series for awhile.
So, very mixed bag. If you liked the first one read it, but know going in there’s a slog.
A continuation of an already-superb series with another outstanding entry. The action keeps going in this book, with the plot and characters again gluing you to the pages until the end. It would have been easy to pick up with the same characters, so a new story with new side characters is impressive. The MC again delights, taking the long and rough road of a hero, and the consequences thereof. The length is again a rare treat, the editing is very good, and this book is a great sequel. Definitely recommended (14+) with some rough scenes (but no sex). Really well done.
I really enjoy this series, a lot of the liteRPG books get bogged down in stats and readouts and this author does a great job of not getting lost in the numbers. Add to that a great storyline and anyone can enjoy this series. Looking forward to the next installment.
This is an astounding book in so many ways. The series ... is incredible and under read. This is easily as epic as any in the tradition of reymond e feist, tolkien, or maybe a better version of anything ive read from I Eat Tomatoes... as eclectic a list as that is. You will not regret continuing this series
Not as enjoyable as the first one, but still well-written. It would have been nice if he’d done something other than fight, though, as exciting as that sounds. More character development. About all I could tell you about Hao Chan is that she’s nice, and everyone likes her legs, for example.
This story of a guy who thought he was being uploaded into a game being transported into a cultivating world was awesome. This entertaining fast paced action packed story.
Great series. Little slow to get started but worth it. Liked it so much will support the author by purchasing a copy instead of just reading on Amazon Unlimited.
I feel that I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't me and few vs the world. The slave thing just ticks me off makes me feel like the narrow minded world. But it is not it is a very good book if you can get over a few things. I will say overall great read
This was a hard read I prefer to read of heroes that manage to avoid being tortured and abused ill read the next book but if it's awful torture and atrocities I stop find a mother book series
Another excellent book! How many times a hero can start from scratch? As many times as it takes to get where he wants and achieve his dreams. I'm enjoying Alex's journey far too much.
The mc is not likable at all ,kinda of stupid to boot.Just so unbelievably that I gave up on this series even after reading the first..dont waste your time reading this series like I did!!
Loved both these books - great start to the series and I'm looking forward to more. It's been a while since I stayed up until 4 am reading as I just couldn't put this one down without finishing it.
