The mob in Sweetwater Springs? Definitely not business as usual in this small Alabama town. Glory Harper has been busy with the grand opening of her daughter’s bakery, working her own job and organizing the local charity club auction, but that doesn’t stop her from finding herself in the middle of another huge mess and this time it’s “family” business.

When an investor for the town’s not-so-popular condo project is found dead and her daughter’s boyfriend lands at the top of the suspect list, she jumps in with both feet to clear his name. The problem is, the deeper she digs, the worse it looks for Tony.
Can she save her daughter’s happily ever after and uncover the real killer before Tony gets fitted for a new pair of cement shoes?

Synopsis:

What in the wide, wide world was Glory Harper thinking? How did she get herself into this mess? Not only does she have her hands full with the grand opening of her daughter’s coffee shop, she goes and gets herself roped into heading up the local ladies’ club charity auction.
As if that wasn’t enough, things really begin to get ugly when local property owners hear of a lakefront condo project that could threaten their posh lifestyle at the exclusive end of the lake. The rumor of an investor from up north with questionable “family ties” sends the town into a frenzy.
When the investor is found dead and her daughter’s boyfriend, Tony lands at the top of the suspect list, she knows she has to find a way to add one more thing to her plate. She agrees to do a little investigating, but the deeper she digs, the worse it looks for the Tony.
Can she save her daughter’s happily ever after and uncover the real killer before Tony gets fitted for a new pair of cement shoes? (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Glory is a hard worker and she cares about people. She likes to help her daughter in her bakery and she also works part time at the church. Now she can add amateur sleuth to her job list. She feels like she has to figure out the culprit for her daughter, since her daughter’s boyfriend is a person of interest. Can she figure it out before it is too late.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the beginning. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. The mystery was not easily solved.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I will have to read the first book in the series.

Love this author

Just completed the second book in this series , both in two days.
I was drawn to these books initially because the setting was small town South. Characters are like people I have known all of my life. The heroine is an little bit older than usual characters these days which adds to relatability. There is a higher standard than many in our times. I care about these people and their lives!

I do not typically enjoy short books/novellas as they tend to be all fluff and no substance. This book also falls into the fluffy category. But, I really am enjoying this series. Merritt has written books that are super easy to read yet perfect for the crap of 2020. Yes, this book would have benefitted from another 100 pages but I will read book 3.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The mystery wasn't as twisty as book one, in my opinion. I also felt like the writing has improved, but can't really put my finger on it. The relationship between Glory and Hank still feels a bit stiff, but I look forward to reading book three.

This book is what is referred to in newspaper lingo as a “fluff piece”. It is an enjoyable read but does not have a lot of substance!

Great read

Yup! Sneaky and "how's that again" is one way to explain the unexpected happenings, twists and turns in this series! 😁

Excellent

Recently widowed Glory has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Finding the killer has know gotten into her blood. She doesn't seem to want to leave well enough alone. This is a fun, clean read that I do recommend.
