He penned "Nightfall," voted in 1964 as the best short story of all time; many persons still honor this title. He also produced well mysteries, fantasy, and a great quantity of nonfiction. Asimov used Paul French, the pen name, for the Lucky Starr, series of juvenile novels.
Most books of Asimov in a historical way go as far back to a time with possible question or concept at its simplest stage. He often provides and mentions well nationalities, birth, and death dates for persons and etymologies and pronunciation guides for technical terms. Guide to Science, the tripartite set Understanding Physics, and Chronology of Science and Discovery exemplify these books.
Asimov, a long-time member, reluctantly served as vice president of Mensa international and described some members of that organization as "brain-proud and aggressive about their IQs." He took more pleasure as president of the humanist association. The asteroid 5020 Asimov, the magazine Asimov's Science Fiction, an elementary school in Brooklyn in New York, and two different awards honor his name.

This is the Kindle equivalent of 101 Science Fiction Stories. The selection of stories in these huge anthologies is always pretty hit or miss. You won't find any of the classics here, for example, no 'Nightfall' or 'A Martian Odyssey' . Nor is there anything particularly modern, thank God. While most of the stories are competent but forgettable, one or two were interesting enough, and at least you get to see stories by Lloyd Biggle Jr. and Ross Rocklynne that you'd otherwise find hard to find.
On a re-read, I will add "Summer Guests" by James H SchmitzJames H Schmitz. The worst would be "Wind People" a 1959 work by Marion Zimmer Bradley which is an early example of one of these 'cabin fever' stories where the author works out their screwed-jp sexuality.

Are unwanted, poor stories cheaper? THis is seriously poor collection -- I jumped to the stories by authors like asimov, dick, and bradbury -- but even those were unnoteworthy bordering on poor to skippable. Usually collections are uneven, and though didn't manage to read all of it, the half made it through were not worth bothering with

A Heavy Time Investment for Readers
101 Science Fiction Short Stories will take you into worlds which will leave you haunted and grateful for the ending, and some where you'll turn the page wanting to read more. Some of the stories are excellent quick reads while others are for more extended reading.
The book is excellent research for new and seasoned writers on short story writing.
Rating reflects that due to the amount of short stories in this book, and the more lengthy stories of 30+ minutes, readers could be tempted to not finish the book. Even if the average story is only a 15 minute read time, this is a heavy time investment for readers to complete.

Something for everyone.
This book is loaded with well.known authors and less knowing up and coming authors. I've been reading science fiction since I was a kid. This book runs the gamut. So many different, thought provoking stories. Well worth the time to take it all in. Meat strange New aliens and planets with every kind of climate and scenery and the strange people that live there.

Good mix of old style fiction with some newer authors.
Could be improved by two items. One to place the stories in Temporal order.
Two to include a short biographical note about the author. This would eliminate scattering the authors throughout the book. This is not without several true jem littered thoughout the book

Every kind
There are stories of every kind within The definitions of science fiction. They are really good when looked at in the max from the way And very interesting when looked at in the minimal way. Science fiction without all the scientific knowledge we have today Is fascinating

A few stories had outdated ideas about male roles. The stories are thought provoking. I am glad I got it and will be looking into other books or short stories by a few of the authors

101 is the bomb
House size computers, insulting robots, tentacles, nuclear war, with a side of sarcasm and humor. I read these stories as a child and loved them. They are still good and the authors well known.

Dated
With a few exceptions, This collection has many now dated stories. Plenty of “ Atomic” story lines . Perhaps I would go back and reread some of them.

Dated but still relevant
Dated, but some stories carry timeless themes. Computers are overly large and telephones in booths still exist , but the human messages still resonate.

Overall, pretty good collection representing classic SF.

Most off the stories seemed out-dated with lots of anachronisms. There was only one (out of 101) story that I really liked.
