I try to avoid Kindle books which are described as "enthralling," since I have learned, to my chagrin, that other people's "enthralling" means I have probably read it all before. If a Kindle editor can't come up with a better description than "enthralling," how enthralling can the novel be? Novelist Roger Silverwood continues to come up with silly bits of dialogue and the oddly amusing twists of plot, which by this point in the series, must be somewhat of a challenge. The description is accurate in this regard. I am being generous with 4 stars here...it was really a 3 1/2, but who is counting. And no, I did not REALLY like it so I am changing my rating to 2.

Good

4 men had fingers damaged while in a hotel . One criminal was also in the hotel . A notorious kill is on the loose . Two brothers are suspected of moving into town to take over the lowlife gangs . A wealthy woman goes missing after supposedly getting married and her sister is concerned . Then there is the case of the ruby . DI Angel has a lot to do and a difficult Superintendent . Luckily his crew know how to get the job done .

A TOTAL COCK-UP

Of all the Silverwood books I have read, this one takes the cake for stretching credulity. When Angel is bewilderingly abandoned by his stake-out team, despite the firing of guns they must have heard, there is no explanation or come-uppance for their criminally negligent dereliction of duty. Nor is it likely that, given the number of conmen Angel has dealt with, he was not even remotely able to deduce that the marriage ceremony had been a sham. What an irritating and laughable read!

It's Okay

Not the best DI Angel story but it is passable and somewhat entertaining. The ending is quite satisfying. Note to author: there are no revolving doors in hospitals! And Angel should have called for back-up when confronting Big Laura and Lloyd Corbett. After all Angel is presented to us as a smart copper. I've read 12 DI Angel books and I feel The Missing Model and The Snuffbox Murders are the best of the lot.

Entertaining but...

Not quite up to the inspector's previous outtings. While it still kept this reader guessing, the solutions seemed a bit too rushed.

Great story telling

Another great read from Roger Silverwood. The inspector wasn't quite as humerous this time but the plots and sub plots didn't fail to be intriguing.

The Missing Husband.

A good read, with plenty happening right throughout the book. Another good storyline by Roger Silverwood. Yes, I will recommend this to my friends.

Wild about harry is the unlikely title of silverwoods 13th book containing d.i.angel and obviously concerns murder.

Okay

On par with the other books in the Yorkshire Murder Mysteries series. Plot line is basically the same. Had a chuckle reading this line as he is facing another personal peril,

“He wasn’t used to this sort of rough and tumble. He thought he had left all this behind when he became an inspector twelve years ago.”

I guess it wasn’t a rough and tumble time when he was locked in a room with dynamite set to explode in a couple of seconds or when he was handcuffed in the inside of a car speeding out of control downhill, there have been similar perils. I guess it makes for suspenseful reading 😱

Overall the series is good, clean from sex, naughty language and gore. That is my biggest 👍
