Cursed World #4

Misfit Hunt

Rate this book
The prophecy was clear: break the curse before magic is purged from the world, or lose everything.

Amber wanted nothing more than to keep her pack safe, but that is no longer an option. They are outnumbered. Two steps behind. And the clock is ticking.

They must fight back.

But they can’t do it alone.

Forced to leave everything behind and run for their lives, the pack must find not only a way to break the curse but allies to help fight a war no one believes is coming.

The hunt must begin.

Well the big battle is here, and it was more chaotic and stressful that I was prepared for!

“I am so confused.” Ceri rubbed her fingers against her temple. “Amber has been arm wrestling an elf and you discovered a hidden stash of spell books from a witch that’s been dead for over a century after you and Deward followed a hallucination through underground tunnels?” “Might have been a ghost? But yes.”

Also had some good laughs in this one- but the Evangeline hate train is still chugging along for me over here.

I didn't dislike it, but this was the weakest in the series so far imo. I'm giving it 3.5 stars.

Part of that was because a lot of pieces were being put in place for the last book here, so it was a bit of a bridge book.

The other part is that I just really don't like Evangeline. She's a TSTL selfish brat. It's a sad truth that if someone told me "you have to protect this asshole or it is the end of the world" I'd be like "well, get ready for the end of the world then, I guess."

So ... /shrug

Eagerly moving on to the last book though.

I felt like almost this entire book was a battle when I think over how it went? It was very nerve wracking and at times both depressing and inspiring.

I felt like this book dragged on too long, and the heroes we had were just very mediocre. Amber seemed to win her alpha challenges based purely on luck and circumstance, and I never really got the feeling that she was truly that competent or powerful. She seemed to be just the person that was there at the right place and time with the right knowledge and was willing to do something about it.

Evangeline rejoined the group, and once again, she was still quite the bratty angsty teenager. It was not enjoyable to follow her POV chapters and see how her terrible decisions played out.

Lots of action, lots of chaos, lots of characters all over the place with multiple vampires and witches added to the cast. Some long-included characters were killed off, but I didn't feel too empathetic about it and kept going just to find out how the story ended.

The book ended on a huge twist and cliffhanger and set up for a very different environment for the last book in the series.

The pack has taken its lumps and persevered, but the secret war is ramping up. The pressure mounts as they try to break the curse and reveal the truth about the angels. Whether searching for artifacts, allies, a way to reveal the truth to the world, or stopping the no-magic zones, they encounter hazard after hazard, tearing and sculpting them in interesting ways.
An absolutely captivating tale. Storytelling at its finest.

So in my notes for Books 1-3 I noted that the book leans in a bit too hard on the "old fogeys and old rules are stupid." I didn't mind it because I liked seeing Amber stick it to the old fogeys, but I was a bit annoyed because while that is a good generality, it's not always a good idea to break all the rules without finding out why they exist. Amber found out at the end when she found out that she can't "give up" all the other packs. I was sorry to see that happened.

I absolutely loved that the author let romance build and go up and down. I'm still unclear which book had which happening because Books 1-4 were listened to on a cross country drive. Having Shane be a clear romantic contender in Book 1 but not just jumping in and saving the day rocked. Having him turn out to be less than perfect also rocked. Watching the bad boy demon and Amber's interst grow throughout was really freaking cool.

Not shockingly, Catrathin and Woogy were my favorite characters, but I have to admit that the ritual where pixies who are giving birth have to pass that pain on to the other partner was hysterical. The fact that Woogy was looking so happy about it absolutely thrilled me.

The trolls are also favorites of mine. I really like that they are so keen on logic and also on defense and protection. The way that they are open to others, even if they aren't necessarily a wildly open society, really shown through both in how they accepted the pack and pixies but really in how they were willing to work together.

“Misfit Hunt” is one intense read in the Misfit Pack Series. The prophesy made it clear, the human world would be forfeit is the curse is not broken. How ver, how is Amber and her small pack of misfits make a difference? The answer is they will have to garner support from the other species: vampires, weres, trolls etc.

Amber is not known for her displomacy; yet, with the assistance of Bram she is able to get additional support. After being forced to run away from their home, Ceri really assists Amber in solving some of the political agendas. She also comes up with a unique way in which to eliminate her pack being put under the thrall of the Incubus.

Evageline is back doing what she does best and that is being a brat. All the other characters have had to deal with their insecurities and problems but Eva continues to wallow in self pity. I keep waiting on someone to tell her to get over herself but Deward is the only one whose comes close.

Carter and Ito are up to their usual deviousness and nastiness. They are both about to have a slice of humble pie. All in all, this fast pace read clearly rockets the storyline leaving the reader will the feeling the end is drawing near. It will certainly be interesting to see what the next installment adds to the progression of overall plot. Kudos to Ms. Foxe.

Simply Amazing!

I have so many positive things to say about this this book! I mean the entire series is amazing and I can not wait to see how it all ends. Amber is by far my favorite character with Tommy coming in a close second. Something about his quiet strength really resonates with me. Evangeline annoyed the crap out of me this book but she has her purpose so I won’t complain to much. I am completely captivated by “Angel” but I feel like he is hiding something major. So many questions I am excited to find out the answers! I appreciate the subtlety of the romance brewing between Amber and “Angel”. It’s there but not the focus which I love!

Read this series you won’t be disappointed. It grabs you from the very first chapter and doesn’t let go.

Wow!

I read the first 3 a year ago and mostly forgot about it with everything else going on. Then Amazon sent an email saying the fourth was out and 2 days later all 3 reread and the 4th just finished-wow. I'm so impressed. So many books hook me in the first book and then just get worse with each that I end up not liking the main characters anymore but Amber and her pack stayed true to their natures, weren't forced into doing stupid stuff to fit plot lines and the action and intensity just kept building. I rarely buy physical books these days but I know I will when the last book drops if physical is an option. I can NOT wait for the next book to come out!!!

The series just keeps getting better!

This author has my full respect. This is an excellent series. The writing is to the point and the perfect tone for the content and pace of the adventure. We get to see the characters grow in response to their circumstances and without having to endure endless internal soliloquy. The author doesn't deviate even once from her task of telling a tightly woven story in a perfectly built world. This is way above the rest of its urban fantasy peers.

That ending???

Wow. A lot happened (as it usually does thank God) and it ended with such an epic problem. There was definitely a lot of frustrations and I loved watching people have issues to work through. Some were straight up hopeless but a few were redeemable. I LOVED the thing with a certain demon and wolf and I loved how subtle their thing was. Never too much and just enough to make you go “hmm”.

The multiple POVs work with this story and I enjoy what the author made.

No regrets & a new author to follow!

Woah! So good. There is always another piece of the puzzle popping in when I least expect it. I love how close this misfit pack... I find myself wishing my family was that tight. I'm so glad to have picked up the first book in this series. Please tell me that another book is coming..

Not the end

Well amazon showed this as book 4 of 4...what it didn’t mention is that the story doesn’t end here, there just aren’t any more books...yet.
While it’s disappointing as I was expecting an ending, the book itself didn’t disappoint and I’ve enjoyed it as much as the previous 3 books. I’ll definitely be checking out Stephanie’s other works.

Better and better

The previous books in the series must be read to follow the storyline in this installment. The characters and plot are weaving together nicely. This installment missed some of the deeper glimpses into our crew of misfits but so much was established earlier that it wasn’t huge.
Looking forward to more.

Yikes!

Wow! This was a crazy addition to the story. This world is so much more than I ever expected from the first novel. The stakes just keep getting higher and higher. The story is engaging and the cast of characters expanding. It sometimes took me a bit to place to figure out which minor character was being discussed, but that's been the only break in the pace for me.

Great series to escape into

Interesting plot twists, good guys become bad guys, then switch back. A werewolf clan made up of an assortment of supernatural individuals, large and small. And a world on the brink of destruction. Lots of action and entertaining interactions. Descriptive battle scenes. What a great 👍way to pass the time while trying to avoid the Covid 19 virus.

Another hit!

To say that I enjoyed this book is an understatement. I have gained more respect for the female protagonist, Amber and have cemented my love for Angel. This book has given us just what we want - action, character growth, secrets revealed, new possibly-important-in-the-future characters and a little romance. I ready for the next book in this series.

An absolutely fantastic read

A fast-paced and exciting read. I could not put it in until I was finished, as with every other book in the series. This author has a way of drawing you in and holding there until the story is complete.

Love this series

I’m really enjoying this series. By this book the story line is coming together. It did take me a couple of books to really get into the story and get used to the different points of view. I can’t wait to read the next book to see how it all ends.

Stopped at 32%. I probably would have enjoyed this book more if I had been reading the series back-to-back. I remember really liking the first few in this series, but it's been too long. I just couldn't get into the story this time.
