From New York Times bestselling author Victoria Quinn comes a romance so original you’ve never read anything like it before. Ever heard of a hot Sheldon Cooper? Didn’t think so. Get ready for a slow burn that turns red hot!
I've only been with a handful of men, and all of them are average, at best. Intellectually. Physically. Anatomically...
Then I meet Deacon Hamilton.
Six-foot-something with that light shadow on his jawline. Eyes that are both cruel and kind. A body molded with strength and discipline. He's definitely above average in every single category.
But intellectually...he's off the charts.
A super genius. That's what I call him.
But he's not some nerd with his nose stuck in a book. He's so masculine, so commanding, so everything. He's the man of my dreams. The man of every woman's dreams.
I've never been with a man so smart...but I really like it.
Warning: Must have patience for extreme slow burn.
Deacon is a socially awkward genius who prefers his work over people. He comes off as cold, rude, impatient...etc. At first Cleo is put off by Deacon's abrasive behavior, but she starts to see who he really is...a man dedicated to his young son and finding a cure for cancer. It's her understanding of Deacon that makes her dedicated to making his life as manageable as possible. Their work relationship develops into a friendship.
This is a work relationship enemies to friends. During the friendship, expect sex with others.
Well, color me surprised. Who knew I’d enjoy an unsafe book? This bitch right here. I’m very critical with unsafe books and rant about them to no end. But damn this book kept me glued to my kindle. I actually did not have any problem. It was entertainment for me at least. So 3 starts it is.
It was a slow burn and normally that’s fine but by slow burn I mean SLOWWWWWW BURN. Absolutely nothing happened. It really ended and the male mc and female mc were not together nor had they acknowledged their feelings for eachother, that’s how slow it was. I’m not going to read the next book because I at this pace it’ll take 4 400 page books for 1 thing to happen.
I just hated the way that Cleo and Deacon treated the other female characters. Like every single one of them were shit on their shoes (bitches/trash/bimbos/pieces of ass), It's something I've come across in other books but it's not something that really bothers me too much but this book just rubbed me the wrong way. Like Deacon is sleeping around pretty much a different woman every other night but Cleo sees him as everything good in the world who can do no wrong (misunderstood as she says) and these women as bimbos, like what?
I absolutely love slow burn romances. I've seen this one around on Instagram and Facebook and I've had it on my TBR list for a while...but when I looked it up on GR, I realized it was a series. I wasn't sure I was ready to get involved with a series. I also wasn't sure I wanted a series. I don't always love a series about the same couple. I tend to feel like there is unnecessary drama. So I was worried about this series. But then one day I stupidly decided to read the sample and I was hooked. I couldn't put it down.
I loved this book. I loved watching the relationship develop between Cleo and Deacon. And by relationship, I mean their working relationship, developing into a friendship and both of them realizing that there was an attraction there.
While I would have loved to just have the whole story in one giant book, I'm totally ok with the pace this is going. I can't wait to continue on with their story to see how everything plays out for them.
I just realized this is my 13th read from this author! Cudos to her!!👏👏👏 This story was different from other stories I have read. I usually don't like slow burn romances, but this one is so good developed and so nicely done, you would not be bothered by it. The story grips you from the start to the end, it never gets boring or annoyed. The writing is amazing, the characters development too. I love heroes/heroines who have let's say minor psychological disorders that make their emotional world so interesting to discover.
The hero Deacon has an antisocial disorder and it seems that he has issue comprehending sarcasm, double meanings, sometimes emotions. It was really cute to see how this guy who was super smart and highly intelligent and had won a Nobel prize in Medicine and owned his own Pharmaceutical Company couldn't communicate his feelings and struggled a lot in human interaction. He's gorgeous, tall, dark hair, hazelnut eyes and billionaire, very fit...he is hard not to look at. He hates attention and human interaction.
Cleo was a very interesting heroine. She's smart and dedicated in her work and has a tragic story. The whole description of her appearance made me think of Lilly Colins. I love how this girl penetrated his world day by day with intelligence.
Deacon is divorcing his wife a gold digger who he married only because she remained pregnant. He has an adorable son of 4 years old who is his spitting image and has his brains too. He loves his son so much, he's the only person who has made his heart beat. When you will read how much he loves his son it will melt your heart!
I won't reveal more from the story because this is a journey you should do yourself in order to enjoy the book.
The only 2 small things I didn't like: 1st Deacon not thanking Cleo during the whole story for her help, I thoughtthat was rude not something related to being antisocial...but he does in the end and that kinda makes it up, because when he said those two words, it was so impactful you understand why the author went that route.
An other thing I disliked was the use of the phrase "I would do anything and everything for my clients" that Cleo uses a lot. I found it illogical since the clients could ask all sorts of things even sexual or impossible, so I think that was a bit too much and stupid. Even though you will see how work is her only family, the use of the words everything and anything was too much. But yeah this were the only things I didn't like.
Otherwise this book was awesome and can't wait for the next book to come out! I highly recommend it!
“She wasn’t just an assistant. She wasn’t just a concierge. She wasn’t just a friend. She was something I couldn’t describe.”
Read 2: I still really like this book but there were a couple of things that really rubbed me the wrong way and I’m surprised it didn’t bother me the first time. I’m taking my rating down to a 4.5. I know, that half a star deduction really stings lol. Ok I hate that he’s a manwhore and just keeps bringing these random women home for Cleo to find, even if they aren’t in a relationship or don’t have fully developed feelings for each other. That always gives me the ick. I also wasn’t thrilled with Cleo dating his brother. Thank god she stopped it when she did. It’s still good and I’m still looking forward to reading the next one but that stuff? 🤮
Firstly, I wasn’t expecting this book to end and a cliffhanger so make sure you’re aware of that before starting. I took a quick look ahead and it looks like there are at least two or three more books that specifically pertain to this couple in the series.
That being said I absolutely loved this book. It was full of slow burn sweetness which is my absolute favorite. Deacon is a genius billionaire research Doctor who I’m pretty sure is on the spectrum. He has trouble with social cues and situations. Most people don’t understand him or can’t relate to him. Even his family has trouble. I like that this book could betray someone on the spectrum being able to have a relationship with somebody and show that they care even if it isn’t in the most traditional ways.
Chloe is a great heroine. I really related to her which is something that I sometimes find hard to do with female leads. She really understands Deacon what he needs and how to talk to him. She’s the concierge/PA at deacons upscale apartment building. She actually seems to really enjoy her job of helping people and catering to them instead of just complaining about it all the time which is what you usually get from these books. She meets deacon and wants to help him, he quickly becomes her favorite client. It’s soon apparent to us that they are slowly falling in love however they call each other friends. They both seem a little timid and afraid to take that next step. Frankly, I’m not sure Deacon would know how to and Chloe does have to worry about the line between employer and employee.
I love this book so much that I’ve already placed it on my reread shelf and have purchased the next book and will be starting that in just a few minutes. I highly recommend this book especially to those who love a slow burn romance.
I’d have liked to have been warned about this not being a part of a series but a duet or trilogy. Instead, this isn’t a stand-alone how I thought it was. It was kinda disappointing.
Readers NEED to know to what they are getting into and in what they’re spending their money beforehand. I hate reading without knowing it wasn’t a stand-alone. Ugh.
Now, the book was fine. Really slow-burn but not that good of a slow-burn. We barely got any hits at feelings and emotions of the characters. Not even chemistry or a hint of attraction. Until the last few pages. But come on, at least we could’ve had a kiss or something. But we didn’t. So, it was kinda disappointed.
I don’t really know if I’ll be up for the next book.
But I must give it some credits since I’m a picky reader and I actually finished the book. So, there’s that.
This would have been a great on book storyline. Instead I’ve read an entire book that has led nowhere, had no real tensions, or story arc. Can’t believe anyone would pay another $6.99 to read what should have been in the first. Stop with the aggressive attempts to make money.
I've never read anything by this author before. I found this easy to get into but it's a slow burn. Nothing happens between the H&H in this book.
I did originally think it was only two books so went straight onto the conclusion only to find it's going to be four books. I was disappointed as feel the story could have been told in less time than that.
I think this is the first time I have ever read a full novel where the main characters not even so much as share a kiss. I kept checking the percentage on my Kindle, wondering when the romance would kick in.
It was a rote of everyday activities. Laundry, dinners and a few moments that remind us that Deacon is a genius billionaire. Cleo was the forever concierge. It was different but I like it.
It was Fifty Shades of Grey meets Big Bang Theory meets Maid in Manhattan but without the jokes, excess of friends and sex.
Despite all this, I am 100 per cent invested because these characters are complicated but when they aren't portraying the life we expect of the rich and famous, their everyday lives seem so mundane and their problems those of regular people trying to get through 24 hours.
There are eight books in this series! I don't know if I will read them consecutively but I will be diving into book two next.
This is not even a slow burn. H and h are not together in this book.... its only at the end that they vaguely acknowledge feelings to themselves. The book doesn't even end on a cliffhanger. It just sort of ends mid understanding? H has a "BRILLIANT" mind, but is socially unaware, never stated but heavily implied as on the spectrum. This is repeated again and again. And so he comes across to everyone as a rude asshole, but with a nice ass. When h meets him first, he is a client and acts like an asshole and is rude to her... but it's excused because she is totally professional, and it's her job to cater to his every whim. So thats ok. When he has one night stands over, and she meets them in the morning, and they act the same as him, they are bitches and evil. Double standards!! Professionalism?? h for all her professionalism has a secret relationship with a client at the beginning of the book. She talks to other people about H, without his permission, and having signed a nda. And she escorts him to social engagements. She has no friends and lives to work, pleasing others. I couldn't imagine reading another 3 books to get to the end of their story. Nothing really happens in this book, nor do i care enough about either character to want to read on.
Note to self.. found on tik tok!🙄

I absolutely loved this first book in the Soulless series! The characters are rich & Ms. Quinn does a beautiful job bringing them to life. The story is original and I'm totally enjoying escaping into this billionaire lifestyle. The worst moment was when the book ended and I realized I had to wait for Book 2 to come out before I can find out what happens with Deacon & Cleo and the rest of the crew.
The story is intriguing since the main character, Deacon, is a brilliant doctor who really doesn’t know how to communicate in a polite manner or know how to have a conversation with people. He is really intense on doing good in the world and helping people but most people see the cold side to him and don’t realize what a great person he actually is. Except Cleo who works as a PA/manager in the building he recently moved in to and is determined to get to know him and help him out when it come to his personality and personal issues that he is dealing with. I can’t wait to see what happens in book two since it leaves off on a cliffhanger.
This is my first time reading anything from this author, and I can't wait to read more. This is the first book in the Soulless series, and the story of Deacon, and Cleo. Cleo is a concierge to the rich, and famous, and caters to all their needs. When Deacon becomes a resident in the building, Cleo, and Deacon form a connection. This was a great read, the characters are well developed, and their story kept me engaged. This was emotional, dramatic, and intriguing.
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Easy-to-read Entertaining Great world building Original Page-turner Romantic Unpredictable Wonderful characters
Slow burn? This didn’t even have a simmer, maybe more like quick match and then the wind blew it out. The Hero is identified as being brilliant and can’t understand sarcasm and innuendos, but it seems like he has Asperger’s syndrome. This makes it really hard to route for this couple when the entire relationship seems like a working relationship/transaction. I’m going to attempt to read the second book to see if it gets better, but if this relationship doesn’t start to spark up, the second book will be the end of the road for me. The one good takeaway is I loved his relationship with his son, so I’m hoping that he shows that kind of love to Cloe on the next book.
I’m assuming it’s because there’s more books in the series. I feel like this book didn’t really have much going on that couldn’t have been done in half of the book. I still love the story line and the characters are great. I really like Tucker, especially his turnabout being a womanizer type guy, but actually wanting to settle down. I think I liked his story better than Deacon’s. Anyways, Chloe is OK sometimes I wish that the heroine would realize the situation she’s in and make different choices instead of being the one that always waits and is patient. Throughout the book and this is a spoiler she sees how many women he sleeps with, but still doesn’t think about herself also the fact that she doesn’t get involved withpeople that are her clients, but she still goes out of her way for him bothers me a little bit. I know that silly and that’s part of the storyline, but just sometimes I wish that she would move on, and the guy would realize and would make the change.
boring. the guy was supposed to be all closed up and that it was difficult for him to communicate but he was telling his concierge all his baby mama business after a day of living there? yeah not for me. also no romance between the main characters.
If you enjoy a slow burn this book is a good pick! I don’t plan on reading the sequel purely because it’s obvious the way the story line goes but it was a good start to a series
This was the first book that I have read by this author and Jesus I loved this book so much and I can not wait to read book 2 and continue the amazing story!
Watching how Deacon and Cloe’s friendship develops over time is amazing. You can tell they will do anything for each other. Cloe shows that with Deacon’s son
The man with no soul title, does not fit Deacon. He's just a very brilliant and sensitive, man that's misunderstood. I love how shy he appears to be. The fact that he has a hard time communicating with people is so sweet. But it seems as though Cleo is the only one that understands him. She's a personal assistant to him and the luxury building he lives in. I love the way she took to him so easily and understood where he's coming from. She gets him!!! Cleo knows that his silence, means that he has a hard time conveying what he wants to say. I felt so bad for him every time that he speaks to his ex-wife Valerie, and the way she refuses to let him speak to his 5yrs old son Derek. He actually cried because it hurts him so much. Cleo witnessed his tears of frustration. And being the helpful saint that she is. She vows to help him with the situation. I love what she did for Deacon, on his 33rd birthday. The whole scene had my heart melting and made me cry too. Cleo by far is the best thing that ever happened to Deacon, other than his adorable son Derek. Tucker, Deacon"s older brother is so sweet. I hope that he gets his own story too. I felt bad for him, with what happened between him and Cleo, after they came back from the cabin, where they celebrated Deacons' birthday. I'm hoping that Deacon and Cleo, gets together. But I think that his ex-wife Valerie is going to be a major problem.
