A queer romance novelette On-the-rise fashion photographer Blake Elimar has only ever been in love once—with her then best friend, Drew. It's taken five years to piece herself together, especially since the last time they'd seen each other was at Drew's wedding. Drew Dimitrov has officially been dubbed the model world's new it-girl. In a career-defining moment, she has been given her first nude photoshoot at Luxe magazine, and Blake just happens to be the photographer. It's a reunion neither expects. But can anyone stop an avalanche once the ice begins to fall?
**'It's difficult to write a book.So much in the story is unexpected, so writers have to sometimes let their control go every bit at a time in order for the storyline to be satisfying..'
4.5stars! A short, fast-paced enlivened story. Highly recommended!
This is the second work that I have read by this author. And I read it specifically because the two main characters also appear in the other work I've read by this author (Collide).
In terms of "reading things chronologically", read this short story before reading the longer short story called Collide. As Drew & Blake, stars of this story, appear in Collide. The main people in Collide, though, do not appear in this short story.
Two youngish women, both around . . . 25, attended the same college four years before the start of this story. Drew & Blake were best friends. The kind who would lay upon the other while watching television and the like. But then, and this isn't a spoiler, Drew married a man. Four years would pass before the two talked again.
Drew went off and became a famous model. Blake, meanwhile, became a famous photographer. One living in Los Angeles, and the other living in, I think, New York. But Drew is having a photo shoot in LA and wants her friend to be the photographer. Blake? Wants nothing to do with it. For reasons that are obvious but which I won't mention here. Drew forces things.
From the tiny bit presented here . . . I don't think I really like either main character. Both have point of views, but I felt as if I, as the reader, learned more about Blake. I don't know. Maybe if this had been a full length book, or possibly if it had been as long as Collide (i.e., been about 100 pages longer) I might have found that I like both characters. As is . . . this was a snippet in two young women's lives, and I do not think either exactly presented themselves well here. Eh, what do I know.
FLAWLESS!!! The only thing that made me a little sad was that it was too short. I need more because this novelette had it all!!! So beautifully written! Just wow! I could cry right now! So so so so so beautiful!! I LOVED IT!!! Blake and Dimi are SOULMATES!!! This is love right here!! I honestly have so much respect for Blake! JUST GIVE ME A BLAKE IN REAL LIFE PLEASE!! I’m legit enamored with this story! 100% recommend! And i can’t wait for this author’s debut novel! One of the best writing I’ve read in a while. Perfection 👌🏻😍💛
For a shorter romance, this one packs a punch. There’s quite a bit of angst, since Drew is excited to rekindle their friendship and Blake doesn’t want that at all. The chapters are quite short and paced well, so things move along quickly. However, if it had been a bit longer and the story had had more room to breathe, I think this would have been phenomenal.
I enjoyed this little roller coaster. It’s so short yet somehow manages to build a story that I was sucked right into and made me wonder if the author would write a full novel length version because I would definitely read that.
A sneeze of a story - read as a prequel to SS's part 2 of Flippin' Fantastic as same characters recur. Or something? Confused? Yes, and SS writes well.
A spark can bring an avalanche roaring through your heart.
Wow this was such a toasty omelette. The two characters had this instant heat that you could feel. The love their feelings flaired with from their college days never died only realized. Blake the photographer loved Drew the model, then but neither shared it. A husband later Drew finds her truth and The photo shoot with her photographer could make her life feel whole again. Stephanie Shea warms up the pages with the very hot connection between to friends who should have always been lovers. Spoiler alert the but you will love this story.
This was a great and quick read. I didn’t want it to end though. I wanted to know the whole story or Drew and Blake! Shea does a great job with the steamy scenes though.
I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this novelette. I love the connection between Blake and Drew. Blake the photographer and Drew the model. I just loved how the story was unraveling. From Blake saying no to a nude shoot of Drew. Drew not settling for a no and goes looking for Blake even though they haven’t had any contact in five years. Blake not able to look at Drew since she went and got married on her. But she never told Drew how she felt. Drew who needed to have this connection with Blake especially for the shoot but for their relationship. Drew who had secrets of her own. When these two meet again, it is hot! Loved this story. I am starting to enjoy Stephanie Shea very much!
I enjoy this author's writing style, but just as in her short story, Apt. 103, I wanted more. Both Blake, the photographer, and Drew, the model, were very likable characters with a history. This was a very fast burn in a short amount of time. I'm anxious to try a full length novel from this new author to see how she can really develop her characters and create interesting settings, but Avalanche is a good, quick read.
A love lost, a love unrequited, a love that was always burning slowly in absenteeism and then a love rekindled to a burning blaze! Loved this little novelette can’t wait to read more by this author!
At first I wasn't feeling Drew, she felt a bit flippant. So about half way through the story I was just thinking Blake should really move on, it's a waste of time, but a few paragraphs this I kinda did a 180 when learning what Drew had to say. So suddenly I'm drew/Blake team since I was a little baby. I quite enjoyed it, and being this short it felt almost like a tease. I wouldn't mind getting to see more of them.
I might be only one that thinks this book is not so good. I don’t understand how it got a 4+ rating. Thank God it was that short, I’m not sure I could stomach more pages. Everything about it was just off. The grammar, the plot, the story, everything. It felt like a badly told story. Another episode of just cause the cover looks nice doesn’t mean the pages are. If this is how all her other books are, I’m not sure I want to read them.
My first foray into the world of this fine author and I'm hooked. A mistake years before is corrected inevitably as one person craves the opportunity while the other tries to keep the distance but ultimately knows its futile and all it took was being naked in a purely professional manner
I normally would not be cheering for the two.main characters to get together in this scenario, because one of them is married. However, Ms Shea wrote Drew and Blake's relationship and back story so well, that I couldn't help but want them to get together.
I don't know how Stephanie Shea does it! Another short story, but you really get invested in these characters. There's history, emotion, chemistry, love - everything you want in a romance bundled in a few short chapters. Again, the story is really good and sooooo worth the read, but it will leave you wanting more!
This novella is so well written and felt so complete. It covers a lot in a few pages and invokes more emotions in me than in some 500+ page books. Love the characters, the pining and the chemistry. 5 stars
