“I am sixteen years old and I will die on the morning of my seventeenth birthday. As tradition dictates, I will be sacrificed and my life’s blood will determine which one of my two brothers will be King. My blood will kill one and crown one. My name is Everleigh and I am the Kingmaker.”
The legend of the Kingmaker goes back millions of years. Kingmakers are special; their magic chooses the rightful King of the Realm and they all die on their seventeenth birthday.
Except this one.
Saved from the inevitable, Everleigh learns that she is the Kingmaker who will live, the Kingmaker who will rule, the Kingmaker who will be Queen.
But not everyone agrees with an age-old prophecy that says a girl will rule the Realm and soon Everleigh is locked in a deadly battle for the throne.
Can she escape her blood-thirsty enemies and live long enough to be crowned Queen?
Gemma Perfect loves to write. She’s been doing it since she was nine. After a few false starts – self publishing children’s books, and being traditionally published with her romance novella, she has finally found her feet writing young adult historical fantasy books. She is currently writing The Cursed Princess, set five years after The Kingmaker Trilogy finishes, following the adventures of Everleigh's sister, Addyson.
Gemma lives in Wales with her husband Craig and their three boys, Sam, Corey and Oliver. She is happiest when writing, day dreaming and eating smelly blue cheese.
Amateurish writing. The author has no concept of "show, don't tell". She spends the whole book making statements about who the characters are and what they're feeling, and literally every other page feels the need to restate the entire premise of the story again. There's no real plot happening. The characters just sort of mill around, wandering from one spot to another aimlessly, until the reader gets bored and wanders off, too.
I didn’t fall in love with the characters. The plot had potential, but was not well developed. A book about magic, but the main character was passive and afraid to use her magic. Understandable at first, but she had little character growth. Handing her kingdom over to her brother was nauseating.
I was really excited for this book because I love the YA dystopian genre, but this was a total letdown. The grammar and wording was terrible and juvenile. The main characters had misspelled names that made me cringe every time I read them. The plot felt dead as well. I am pretty lenient on ratings and overlook plot and grammar imperfections if the story is at least enjoyable, but this was just painful.
(Spoilers) Such a good series right up until the ending. The ending made me really sad it was such a let down and so unsatisfying. I also thought it was weird Everleigh had these amazing powers and she barely ever used them. Like it was pretty pointless actually. And then at the end they just got taken away and smashed so gone forever? So weird. I remember reading the scene where she made the water rise and thinking how amazing and magical this is and how great the future books will be when she can harness her powers and then she barely ever used them and then wanted them gone? Odd. Also I thought the message at the end was a bit skewed. I feel like it does not send a good message to young adult readers who are women because the whole time she is Queen everyone says she won’t be good at it because she’s a girl and then when Will becomes King all of a sudden everyone loved him because he’s a boy? (Specifically the male congress) The message it sends I do not agree with. She was going to be the first Queen which I thought was really empowering and then the author completely takes that away at the end. Not very happy about that. But up until the ending I really enjoyed every second.

This book has been in my Facebook feed for a while, so I decided to download it. Finished the Streisand it had a decent premise but I felt it was not well written. The characters are not all fleshed out, the story jumps and the twists barely make sense
The story was depressing to me, every page some new horrible thing was happening. There were so many random deaths that didn't need to happen. The characters need fleshed out more. Seriously after one bad thing was resolved I couldn't even make it to the next page before the next bad thing happened. I had to force myself to finish this set of books.
Didn't finish. Interesting plot, but very poorly written. There's a lot of voice changes in just one character's section. Even a basic writing course would help this author's writing style significantly.
i just found it so slow, and the principle was so stereotype............ im not looking for female empowerment but come on make it a little more believable
This book had so much promise. The premise is excellent, which is why I bought the whole series at once.
But it got to a point where I was only reading because I wanted to know how it all ended, not because I was into it. A better editor could have tightened up the story overall.
The characters just keep making bad decisions. And too many characters die, unnecessarily.
I liked parts of it. The second book introduces several characters who I actually really liked. The overall plot is still interesting, which is why I stuck with it.
I just think this entire series needs a new editor to fix things.
