ROSA: I know who I am. I am the daughter who made good, the sister who's trying to set an example. But my men, I like them strong. So what if they come with a rough side? At least I know they can keep me safe.
Now an off duty soldier who walks into my ER with a bullet in his leg? That might be one step too far. Even if he’s got a face chiseled from granite and arms that could pull my lips to his with a single curl.
I can't deny what's between us, but I can't ignore what brought him here. Or the darkness that lingers behind his gaze.
He's trouble, that's for sure.
So why do I feel more comfortable with him than anyone before?
CALIX: I know who I am. I am a soldier for my people, for those who share my skin, my blood. I served America abroad, yes, but only to learn how to help my father and my MC fight for our cause back home.
But home changed. The club's fallen and it's pulled me into its mess, forced me to lie to keep all I've worked for from unraveling.
Now, there's this girl. The one with the tight little body and that fiery tongue she’s never afraid to unleash. The girl with skin so soft under my touch that I forget its color.
I thought I could use her. Now I can't be without her.
It's making me wonder if the biggest lie... is the one I tell myself.
Calix features romance, sexual situations and rough language. Mature and open-minded audiences only.
Calix is the older brother of Vaughn. He recently returned from duty overseas and got caught up in a drug war with his storm soldiers and the cartel. Calix was shot and had to go to the hospital where he met Rosa. Rosa was the nurse on shift at the time. I loved Calix story because he realized what it took to be a true soldier and fight in a real war. He realized everything that is soldiers in the bike gang did was child's play. He learned what true love and brotherhood meant. I love how he stood up for Rosa even though it cost him everything. This was a very good read.
This is the first book by Paige that I had no interest in finishing. I got to 90% and started skimming. I didn’t care what happened to Calix after he threatened Lem. Rosa calling Calix seemed unrealistic and the story just became boring. My most hated scene was in the diner when Ross was asking Calix if he was a racist. Didn’t fit in with her personality - did she want to be strong or weak? It was good to see Vaughn and Megan again but other than that the story was not worth it. Also sooooo many typos it was aggravating.
Calix was brought up as a racist. His mother was murdered by a black man resulting in his father wanting to start a separate group of like people to keep them safe from others (non-whites). Calix helped him by joining the military and stealing guns for "the cause." "The cause" caused Calix to get shot and he happened upon the emergency room where a beautiful black nurse named Rosa was on duty...
This is the first book I have read by Paige Notaro and I see that this is a more recent publication of the same story (about Calix under the titles: "Little Dark Secret" and other titles, etc.) and also his younger brother Vaughn. I am glad that Calix and Rosa got their HEA and that he also removed himself from the "MC" and their dealings. He risked his military career all for nothing but was man enough to walk away. This was a good read.
That was good. After reading these two books I can see how grief and bad intention can lead you down the wrong path. Rosa ask the question what would have happened if their mom was killed by a white person how would that look. Calix got off easier than expected after everything he did no jail time. I hope their father comes around. I thought I was gonna be mad reading this book but it was a great read.
I will never read another book by this author. This book did not have one happy moment to make up for the misery and sadness of the storyline and the lives of both characters. But to add insult to injury, the horrendous number of typos, grammatical errors and spelling issues, made me wonder if this person has anyone to read the final draft. Hello, desert and dessert are two completely different things!
Another winner by ✍ Paige Notoro👐. In this 2nd book , we get Calix & Rosa's flaming hot🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 IR , drama, angst filled romance . One of the major reasons I am so drawn to this author's 📚 , is that her MFCs are so relatable! They are not wealthy, just hard working , highly flawed (some much more than others 😂) struggling to be better people , so they end up winning at life ! 😍 it 🍷💃
I understand Calix’s loyalty to his father and how it shaped his beliefs and his life. I liked how Rosa called bulls**t on how he had let it control him. Good for her. It took time but he eventually got the memo.
Another good book 📖 to read 📚. I really enjoyed book 📖 1 and 2 in this series and look 👀 forward to reading 📚 more. Glad both brothers finally came around once one saw the error of his ways. Hopefully the father will too.
3rd book is so required to close out the open ended secondary characters such as Homer, Calix's father, Thurgood, etc. So much more could be done to close this series.
