I'm Scarlett Haven. I write YA and NA books and I write a lot. My books are a fun mixture of romance, mystery, and now some paranormal too!
Besides writing, I also love to read anything I can get my hands on and I'm always drawn to the villain of the story. I am 29 years old and am married to the love of my life.
I have been on a Scarlett Haven buzz since the end of last year and decided to make my way through her book list. I have to admit when I was reading Ever After, I found it very similar in parts to her book New Hope Academy. In Ever After, Phoenix's father has gone into politics and has just become a congressman. Her father has received threats, and Phoenix ended up kidnapped. The CIA has now been called in, and Phoenix is sent to East Raven Academy under the name Phoenix Underwood and is to stay there until the threats have stopped and the terrorists caught. At the Academy, Phoenix meets a good bunch of friends and lo and behold she becomes Miss Popularity, and all the boys are after her, this I have found is a common thread through Scarlett Haven's books. The other common thread is that the unattainable guy, the one who never dates is the one who is always interested in the main character. In East Raven Academy we have a love triangle between Phoenix, Estain Rinaldo and Brooks Remington. Can Phoenix stay safe or will the terrorists decide to kill anyone who stands in their way just to find her? Like the other books by Scarlett Haven, this one ended on a cliffhanger, and if her other series are anything to go by, I'm not sure how long exactly we will have to wait as I am still waiting on a couple of the next books to be released. If you love YA, Mysteries, Romance , Adventures then check out Ever After by Scarlett Haven as it has something for everyone within the pages.
So, daughter of someone important in the US political system is kidnapped and, because they fear for her future security, she’s shipped off to a boarding school. Our sixteen year old main character, Phoenix, can’t remember her cover story for toffee. She claims to be reserved but finds herself slap bang in the middle of the most popular group of students and with two young men fighting for her attention. She certainly doesn’t seem to be taking this threat very seriously. Quibbles with the idea aside, there’s nothing awful about this but it doesn’t feel like it offers anything new.
Just started reading this book. It's very repetitive. This is almost identical to the New Hope Academy series. She still has a couple of other series that are left unfinished, then jumps to this one and it's nothing new. WTF happened to the Gracie series?!
So, honestly, I wasn’t very impressed. I’m going to keep reading and I hope that this story will improve. Okay so first off just some of the situations just seem very improbable and or stupid. For example her sneaking off in the middle of the night. Like I understand your a teenage girl you want a social life, but I imagine most also enjoying living more than socializing so... Every time she snuck out she but herself in a dangerous situation.
Also she’s so close to her family, but she never asked her uncle or Jake about them? Like yes, it’s good that she understands that she, herself, can’t contact them, but why wouldn’t she ask the secret service agents how they are?
Another thing I had an issue with is apparently she’s super introverted and had no friends, but she finds herself in what appears to be the popular group of that school. Not to mention that almost every guy that talks to her flirts with her minus Bryce.
Next thing is not necessarily a complaint, but I am disappointed that we never got to see her exhibit any of her amazing computer/hacking abilities. Also maybe some background like how did she even get into that?
So there were some qualities that I did like about her. She was quirky, funny, and nice. However, she always wanted to put herself in terrible situations so it made her seem like she wasn’t acknowledging the gravity of the situation.
On another note, her friends. I felt like the Emma and Bryce situation was fairly accurate. I actually knew a couple who were very similar. I enjoyed reading it and at the same time all I could do was cringe while reading that toxic mess. Something I’m kinda disappointed with which I hope will change in the upcoming books is the flatness of the characters. They really didn’t seem to have a personality and if they did, they were all the same.
To tackle the love triangle situation. I’ve got to say to me both Brooks and Estaine were incredibly boring. Like don’t get me wrong I thought Estaine was super cute, but where was their chemistry. I felt like they were just super good friends. Also how could she be so oblivious he might as well have shouted to the world he had feelings for her. Now on a personal opinion, the qualities that made her dislike Brooks didn’t really bother me. His slight impulsiveness and strong emotions were fine with me, but I did like that she could see the potential toxicity of a relationship with him.
Alright to something that made no sense to me. Don’t get me wrong like I said earlier I really like Estaine he’s super cute, but he just literally told Brooks. Like are you serious? Did he even consider the downfall of the situation. I understand he was trying to consider her feelings, but he could have gotten her killed. What if the terrorist managed to hack into phone towers and caught the call. Like how could he be so reckless? On top of that Phoenix said nothing about it. Like he could’ve made her have to pick up and move. Not to mention when he mentions her father is a politician in front of Brooks. Like why don’t you just plaster her name and location on the internet. Right after Estaine’s massive failure as a confident Brooks gets jealous and kisses her. I understand some girls rather be asked first, but also a good amount don’t want to be asked. She kisses him back, but then she gets mad. Like she said she was in shock, most people in shock freeze though, but her first reaction is to make out with guy you don’t want kissing you? Makes sense. Regardless of that, she wants a successful relationship with Estaine, so why continue a friendship with Brooks when you obviously know he’s not interested in just a friendship. You know your boyfriend can’t stand him. He’s kissed you without permission which made you mad. Why put yourself in a potentially harmful situation?
Overall, this story isn’t bad, but I believe it definitely has a lot of room for growth. So I give it three stars.

It was ok. I thought the premise sounded interesting with the whole being targeted by terrorists and having to be in hiding. For how dramatic the premise is though, there is not much action at all in Ever After. Pretty much the entire book is just typical high school drama and a rather drawn out love triangle.
Phoenix has just arrived at a fancy boarding school where she needs to lie low because a terrorist grouping has zeroed in on her. Phoenix’s father is a congressman which is why she has become a target. A couple of secret service agents are staying on campus to keep an eye on her.
Once Phoenix gets to the school though, she hears about things happening but nothing really happens to her. All she really deals with is a mean girl, some annoying drama with her friends, and being torn between two different boys. There’s a lot of scenes where she’s missing her family or secretly calling them.
The main focus of the story is how she wants to get involved with one of the boys but she doesn’t want to put him in danger. And then once she slips up and the truth comes out, she still is trying to decide which boy she likes more. It was a little anticlimactic since the love triangle is most of the plot.
There’s not much character development in anyone, everything is very surface level. There’s quite a bit of drama between the characters but it’s all about their relationship issues and breakups. The action only starts to pick up at the very end of the book. It just felt like all 200 pages was a really long intro to set up for the next book.
I love academy books. This one is different. Of course , there's a mean girl but before she can bully,Phoenix puts her in her place. Phoenix's life is uprooted and she is sent to East Raven incognito. Always a wall flower before , she finds herself with friends and even 2 boyfriends. Terrorists are still looking for her. She can't tell anyone who she is or it will put them in jeopardy. This book ends in a cliff hanger. It's a fun read. Totally for younger readers or those young at heart.
I really enjoyed this book! It has a great storyline and characters that are immediately likable. High school has enough drama, but add in terrorist threats and danger and fake identities...and wow! Phoenix is at a new school for her safety after being kidnapped. And after not having many friends and no boyfriends, she is experiencing all sorts of new feelings. She has girlfriends and two super hot guys, Brooks and Estaine, who both want to date her. Everything would be great if her whole life weren't a lie and she wasn't constantly in danger. After trying to life a somewhat normal life as a teenager, she ends up in a very public and very awkward situation that could seriously put her and her family's life in danger. Will she have to run again. There were a few typos and the author definitely isn't a sports fan. (There's no halftime in baseball!) But other than that, the book was really good and I'm looking forward to part two.
Honestly, even the most far fetched stories need to at least seem plausible when you are reading it. Even the craziest paranormal stories seem possible if the author is good enough. This story was not only ridiculous but I didn't even like the female leas, the inner dialogue was so over written I was bored 17% in.....the love interest!? Meh, so so dull
Phoenix is a mess. There is so much going on in her life and now she is surrounded by guys who want her. Estaine is really nice and I feel so bad for him. Brooks is intense with his feelings but that goes down the drain with his impulsiveness. I wish she would have more experience with guys. This is getting good I can't wait for the next installment.
Ewww... vomiting silently mentally after having torn my hair out piece by piece. I mean WTF? How can sy write such a ... trying to use the 4 languages l know and desperately find a word for this THING that is lower than lowest, a waste of paper. Okay, calm down... ugh... cannot help but feel sorry for the trees that had been cut for printing this.
Man I love this serues already and its just begun! Its so intense and changes every chapter. Its got everything from teen drama, to new relationships, to secrets, to life and death! Its awesome!
This book was really good. I loved the relationships Phoenix made with the guys. It was so natural and compassionate that I fell in love too. Would recommend this book hands down
Amazing! This has been re-edited and got a facelift! I love Scarlett this is a series of hers I had not read, stumbled across when searching my fav authors! And wow it's a great start to a series! I enjoyed the characters and world building!
I loved this book! I was hooked from the beginning and fell in love with the characters from the beginning. I can't wait to continue this story in never after!
I typically love silly YA books. I was only able to force my way through 22% of this. Can I hear one more time how her mom lives to shop, her dad is important and how she hacked the systems at her old school but nobody noticed or they weren't able to get them off??? I can't make myself keep going :(
