The Sand Dollar Inn is a four book series (I think) called Manatee Bay. While Hazel Taylor is the author of this series, it seems she has written other romances which I have not read. The stories all take place around a family: Widowed mother Nina, daughters Olivia and Mercedes, and son Jack. Most of the stories highlight Nina’s Inn, The Sand Dollar in Manatee Bay. The books definitely have romance, but clean and very sweet. So far in each book, the family is following clues that Nina’s father left for her and finding treasure.

In book one, we find out that Nina’s husband Jack died and left her with huge gambling debts. As her family surrounded her Nina discovered a note and a map from her father. Each book has a happy ending and leads into the next book. The books are quite short, more like novellas, but are quick happy reads. The Sand Dollar Inn series at Manatee Bay was a good read.

I wasn’t going to rate this book because of the old adage, “if you have nothing nice to say...” That being said, I felt the book was written on a very simplistic level. I didn’t want to finish it, but felt since it was such a quick read, I’d give it a chance. I will not be reading an other book in the series.

I loved this story and can’t wait to see where the adventure will take us. Some how Nina’s dad knew she would need the distraction of a treasure hunt. Thank you, Hazel Taylor, for taking us along on this adventure.

.
The Sand Dollar Inn: Manatee Bay Book 1 is written by Hazel Taylor. The book series takes place at The Sand Dollar Inn in Manatee Bay in Florida. The Inn is run by Nina . Nina had been married to Jack until he died . He had run the hardware store in town and had turned their house into an inn which Nina ran. This gave her something to do when their three children grew up and left home. The oldest child was Olivia. Olivia had known since childhood that she wanted to be a lawyer and set out to make her dream come true. She lived in Chicago. Mercedes was the middle child. She had married early and now was a stay-at-home Mom to five-year-old Georgina or Georgie. They lived an hour away in another small town. Chase was the youngest and was not married. He lived between Mercedes and Olivia but didn’t come home as often as they did.
It was after jack’s death that the children started coming more often to the Inn and sometimes even came at the same time. This visit was to be Mercedes , Georgie, and Chase. Olivia was getting ready to go to the Bahamas. When Mercedes and Chase showed up, they asked what the lawyer said about their Father’s will. Was it settled? What would she do with the hardware store? What she hadn’t told them was Jack had felt a $300,000 gambling debt! It had to be paid as soon as possible. How in the world would they pay that? By selling the Sand Dollar?
The book is so much fun to read that is keeps you on task.

More like a novella

This is a short little book with potential to be several books with the family and mystery involved. However, it was so much like Pamela Kelley’s Nantucket Inn books. Husband dies, wife left with loads of gambling debt, has to figure out how to keep the inn running, three adult kids ( 2 daughters and a son).....just so terribly similar.

A difference in the book is that there is a mystery introduced in the story so I imagine the mystery will make up the rest of the series. I. Addition to the sale of the husband’s hardware store, the mystery will probably help the family financially.

However, this book is very short and I realized when I started reading it late last night that I would finish it too quickly because I didn’t want to try to write this late in the night. Yes, the story is short but the characters are good and even though I think it probably needs some more depth, it does have potential.

I did get this book free and there is a link to Amazon for the reader to buy the next book in the series.

A sweet book based around a middle age mother and grandmother who has recently lost her husband. Nina owns The Sand Dollar In and her husband ran the hardware store in town. What Nina found out after her husband’s sudden death was not good news, he had debt and a lot of it that she would age to pay off.

One afternoon whilst playing dress up in the attic with her grand daughter they find a treasure map which Nina’s fathers had left for her, which couldn’t have come at a better time. Something to take all their minds off the death of her husband and their father. And so the adventure begins, where will the maps take them and will the adventure be everything they dream it will be.

I did enjoy this story and look forward to the other 5 books in the series.

The Sand Dollar Inn (Manatee Bay Book 1)
By Hazel Taylor
Main Characters: Nina
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
4 out of 5 stars
This is a short sweet read. (69 pages) It does end in a cliffhanger as it is book 1 of a 6 book series. Although I enjoyed this book, I think all 6 books should have been just 1 book with approximately 390 pages or so. I enjoyed the fact that there was no foul language. So far the treasure hunt was the most interesting thing going on, so I am hoping book 2 is a little more interesting. I will continue reading this series in the hopes that they are all worth it.

Heartwarming and heartfelt, with a bit of a twist!
Beautiful Florida setting, love B & B’s, and manatees! We meet a recently widowed mother of three, suddenly confronted with a large debt left over from her late husband that threatens her B & B. As she casts about for solutions, an unusual one surfaces from her late father. Together with her family and some surprising others, they embark on a treasure seeking escapade that just might save the day! A fun and easy read!

This book was a quick easy read. It is certainly not a page turner, but it’s a relatively good read for something that doesn’t require a lot of focus and concentration. It seems a little on the Hallmarky side.

Nina is widowed and her 3 children - Chase, Olivia, and Mercedes - go on a treasure hunt based on an old map from Nina’s father. They only find the first few treasures in this book. You would need to continue the series to see how that plays out.

A fun new beach series. Nina is owner of the Sand Dollar Inn. Recently her husband has passed away and left her seriously in debt. Nina is a person who thinks that everything will work out the way it should. And work out it does with some unusual surprises! This book is just #1 in this series. Hope you read this book and follow the next in the series to see what changes are in store for Nina and her family.

First of all, I love the beach and Florida settings so this was right up my alley. This is a good sweet start to the series and it revolves around family. When the father passes away and family is left with enormous debt it shows how they all pull together and make things work. Togetherness will get you a long way.

The Sand Dollar Inn is actually a 6 book series - short novellas about a widowed woman and her three adult children. Book 1 is an overview, books 2-5 cover one of the characters and a major life event they’re experiencing, and book 6 is a wrap-up. Very light, easy reading - perfect for summertime or vacation

Hmmm...

I think different authors wrote these. Book one was a quick read, moderately entertaining. In book two, the dialogue is often stilted, and there’s no focus. Olivia loses her job, finds a man ( or rather, Mom finds one for her), gets her life fixed and, oh by the way, treasure # 4. Guaranteed I won’t spend money for the next one.

Fun series

New fun series I believe. This book is to introduce us to Nina's family. She owns and runs the Sand Dollar Inn. Her husband has just died. And she finds out from their lawyer that her husband has left with 300,000 in gambling dept. All the family is in shock.

I recommend this book.

Fun Beach Read!

This is the first of several Sand Dollar Inn novellas. Set on Florida’s Gulf of Mexico sugar-sand beaches and warm waters the book opens as a family is healing from the the sudden death of husband and father Jack.
I’ve never read this author and while this genre is not my Go-To, so far this little series has let me escape to those Gulf Beaches!

The Sand Dollar Inn was a little slow to start. I always find the first book of a series a little difficult to distinguish the characters, but they finally showed themselves when they all met at Nina's home. The real surprise was a treasure hunt, full of interesting details from the family's past. I'm ready to start book 2.

This was a great book. I love how all of her children get along with each other. The characters are well developed, and I'm looking forward to reading many more of her books. This was my first time reading from this author, and I look forward to reading more from her. I feel like I'm on an adventure with the family.

The Sand Dollar Inn us the first book in a series by Hazel Taylor. Hazel has written realistic characters that face real life problems. Her characters are authentic and the story is full of love of family as well as problems to overcome. This was a fun and easy read. Looking forward to book two.

Fantastic read. I couldn’t read it fast enough, and yet the beautiful writing compelled me to slow down and experience every line. Looking forward to book #2 in the series “Manatee Bay”. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Too short

I liked the characters in this series, However, I have trouble calling something a book when there are only 68 pages in it. I would have given it a higher rating if first three books were combined.

this is the first in a series and you are going to continue reading these in order as this isn't a standalone book.
