I live in the North East of England. I’ve always enjoyed writing short stories, and I have been writing professionally for three years.

‘Nightmare Waiting’ is my first short story collection; I hope you enjoy it.

I’m an avid reader, particularly enjoying James Lee Burke, Robert B Parker and Lawrence Block. When I’m not busy writing, I enjoy music, movies, beach walks and beer.

EXCERPT: Abbie Gordon took a large gulp of water, and tried to control her breathing. She sat back down at the kitchen table, fighting a wave of nausea, willing herself not to look at the severed head.

ABOUT 'SMALL TOWN': A dark short story.

MY THOUGHTS: TW - contains references to animal mutilation.

After Abbie's cat is decapitated and left on her doorstep, and receiving no help from either the police or SPCA, Abbie decides to track down the perpetrator on her own.

She has no idea where that will lead . . .

A frightening, cliffhanger ending.

Not quite sure of the relevance of the title.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.2

Not sure what Glenn is doing for Teeside tourism.
Here in another dark short story he reveals the dangers of independent thinking.

But who would blame Abbie Gordan for taking the initiative when her beloved Mr Tibbs is butchered and left on her door step.

Comforted by her friend and consoled by the RSPCA; she soon realises the police are unwilling to take further action.

Canvassing the local houses she finds there anither unexplained incidences to neighbourhood pets.

She decides to put up flyers to gauge the problem and solicite help. Totally unprepared to comfort the truth.

Frightening!

One morning, Abbie opens her door and finds a box on her porch. When she opens it, she finds her cat inside. With its head cut off!

Abbie calls the police, but they are unable to help, so she decides to investigate.

She goes around the neighborhood asking if anyone has seen or heard anything. She gets a lot of stories about cats being mutilated or disappearing.

After putting up fliers, she gets a phone call...

A dark hunt for an even darker demon.

When Abbie finds her cat dead, beheaded, on her doorstep she is shocked and horrified. How could anyone do this? Who would do such a thing? The police show no obvious intention of investigating and Abbie decides to see if she can find any clues. Talking to Keith, a local man with cats of his own, she picks up a little titbit that sends her on a mission to track down any other local victims.
The reader follows Abbie as she tries to get information that will help her in her quest for justice for her beloved pet. Any little clue would be a bonus.
The ending of this story is not what the reader would expect. What will happen next?
A short story ,a great read, give me more!

Abbie Gordon discovers a shocking surprise on her doorstep.

Out of sorts, Abbie immediately phones her best friend Linsey. With Mr. Tibbles beheaded, she really doesn’t know what to do.

But the police and the RSPCA are no help whatsoever. So Abbie decides to take matters into her own hands.

Richard, the ex-boyfriend. Neighbor Sam. Neighbor Keith. The pub story. Malcolm.

Turns out, there are plenty of other missing cats. Maimed cats. Poisoned cats. Dead cats.

Inquiries around town…the print shop…the flyers…the old woman…

Ethel and Malcolm…hell of an ending.

Oh, this is a bad one! Dark and scary. 😳

Glenn McGoldrick is absolutely notorious for her delightfully fleshed out protagonists, enticing and interactive concepts with engaging plot follow-through, and delightful arrays of inclusive side characters and visionary worldbuilding. This novel is one more example of her gifts .If you loved the suspense of The Hunger Games and the intrigue of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, then you’ll adore the heart and mystery of Station Alpha

Small Town: a dark short story, my twenty-fifth short read from author Glenn McGoldrick. A 14-page short read. “I purchased this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Small Town

Poor Mr.Tibbles, who would do such a thing to an innocent animal? Rumors spread like wildfire. A quick read, would make for a good book!

Searching for a cat slasher takes a turn for the worse when he is actually found. McGoldrick at his noir best.

I've previously read this short story in one of the author's short story collections "Nightmare Waiting" but it was still an enjoyable, chilling read second time around.
