.
I skimmed the first 3/4 and then called it a day.
This book is just plain offensive!

The writing is juvenile and the characters don't react normally.
There are so many holes in the story that there's very little sense left in the book.
Nick is 18 and Rose is 15 when they become mates. Nick knew Rose was his mate but Rose didn't? Say what?
But they have sex all night (all off page after he brutally thrusts into her the first time). Then he basically tells her she means nothing to him and to go away.
Nicks reason for pushing her away made little sense. Something about him being a slut and therefore not good enough for her. Is he still a slut after she leaves? No idea.
Once they run into each other again 5 years later, he is like a different person.
He did try to find her after she left... supposedly.

But the thing that bothered me the most was the rape scene. That is why I DNFed.
It's gratuitous. It does nothing to further the plot. It makes the villain (who pops outta nowhere by the way) seem even nastier. But why is he so evil? What is his motivation?
It was like reading a 'Dick and Jane' phonetics book, where Dick gets hit by a car.
The h is violently raped in front of the H and murders one of the villains and then almost dies, but falls into a coma instead. When she miraculously comes out of the coma, just hours after being raped, she starts smooching it up with the H and he asks the doctor if they can have sex. They have sex the next day after she's released from the hospital . There's absolutely no mental trauma from her rape.
But that's not the worst... the doctor tells her that there was some vaginal tearing and therefore she probably won't be able to have any more children...

Say what???

This book is just F'd up!

Ok this book was extremely hard to follow. It was everywhere. First the alpha rejects his mate. Mate becomes pregnant and she leaves. She has a son who is five and comes back to the pack because her grandpa is dying. She blames alpha the kids birthday is next thing. Then there’s a rivalry with this chick called amber who hurts her kid and has feelings for the alpha but she’s mated to someone else. Again all over the place. I couldn’t finish it. I really tried. As I came to the last part where author’s information is posted I read that the author is 19 years old. This makes perfect sense now.

First a mother a real mother would never leave their child behind. Especially when they are young. 2 alphas are tough men/wolves. They don’t cry. They don’t show vulnerability because that makes them weak in front of the pack. 3 There is usually a hierarchy where the alpha listens to the elders. How did Nick become alpha? Alphas usually kill the weaker alpha there’s a challenge, however, Nick dad is still around.

I don’t want to insult but i feel like the author needs to grow up a bit and live a little before attempting to write a paranormal romance novel. Perhaps get a class in creative writing and setting the plot in steps.

These self-publish/indie shifter books on KU are hit and miss; this one wasn’t bad, especially for a first book. There were some unique elements; their “wolf” sides were almost like a split personality. We mostly saw this with Nick/Nikolai; I’d never seen it done like that before. The writing itself wasn’t bad; it just felt very young. I found the present tense a bit distracting, but that’s a personal preference.

I liked how the author got to the issue (the h being rejected) straight away; I get bored when the story takes forever to get where we already know it’s going. It did grab my attention, the betrayal, and her leaving all happens within the prologue, but after that it just sort of stalled for a while.

There isn’t a lot of angst or drama with the couple. Nick certainly was a jerk, but the betrayal wasn’t a HUGE deal… Her absence isn’t explained very well, and there are several inconsistences. Her BF knew where she was; we're told her family didn’t, but her mom calls her at work. Her mom knows she has a kid, but her brother doesn’t. Nick searches for a year, and can’t find her, but the mom has her phone number.

After she returns, everyone is surprisingly fine with everything. So, you’re my daddy?” “I am, buddy.” Will loves Nick… Nick isn’t angry he has a secret kid… Family members are cool they have a secret nephew/grandson. Not one person is upset… It’s all very pleasant; we just follow them around like this until about the 70% mark and then BAM I can handle the dark, but it just didn’t fit. Then it was weirdly brushed away, she has a weird dream with the violator, where his dead mate explains that he was just crazy. She has no emotional hang up, and wants mate sex while still in the hospital. It was so bizarre. There’s a small rouge problem, then we get an epilogue ten years in the future.

Bottom Line This "feels" like YA, but has adult content. The problem I had is the adult content and situations aren't really handled as one would expect from a grown up, so it doesn't make sense. For example, she was away for 5 years, so William can't be almost 6. He should be 4, which would make more sense for him to be in Pre-K. Also, Nick talking about banging Rose in front of her dad-ick. Will telling his parent, "Err, get a room, you horny freaks. My innocent eyes don't need to see that."-double ick. Nick telling Rose he wants her just after the Dr. discussed her vaginal tears from a rape that he witnessed hours before... would NEVER happen. I really feel this is a young writer, and it’s nearly impossible to write believable “adult stuff” with no experience. IMO this could be great if it were re-worked and simplified to focus more in the YA lane.

It’s like a 1.5 because the author was 19 and tried.

Tbh it was kind of a mess, a lot of inconsistencies, things didn’t make sense. The whole time I’m reading it I’m thinking “this is like some teenage wattpad fanfic stuff” then the book ends and authors bio is like “19 year old” oh makes sense, should’ve stayed on wattpad til you got a few more creative writing classes in though.
Im not trying to be rude because trust me I’ve taken creative writing classes and I still couldn’t write a halfway decent book, but im also not going to lie about the quality of the book because the author put it out there publicly.

Anyway, so the story is supposed to be a rejected mate turns accidental pregnancy. Sounds good but problem is nothing makes sense.
Here’s a list of things that literally didn’t make sense as some constructive criticism for the author:

✨He knows she’s his mate even though she doesn’t, but then what about Marcus and Jake, why didn’t Jake know all this time?

✨His reason for rejecting her is changed atleast 3 times through the book. First he didn’t want to drag her into something… (what????), then he thought she wasn’t good enough, then he thought he wasn’t good enough for her.

✨She moved away with Marcus’ cousins, so he knew where she was. But no one else did, except…. Then her mom called her at work to tell her that her grandpa was dying. And somehow her parents knew who her kid was and vice versa even though “no one knew”.

✨She has this guys kid, doesn’t tell anyone. Doesn’t want anyone to know, absolutely hates him for what he did to her. But still gives her kid his last name?? Still tells her kid the dads name and about him and what he did?

✨She never leaves the pack and they have a pack link yet her mate “searched for her” and couldn’t find her.

✨Multiple times it’s mentioned that they can smell her mate on her after they’re around eachother and they can find eachother by scent. But he couldn’t find her by scent? She didn’t realize her brother and Marcus were mates by scent?

✨The book has this whole rejected mate thing going on but then randomly there’s this kidnapping/rape whatever scene. First, the note was stupid and seemed written by a child why is anyone concerned about that. and second, why just why.

✨There is one scene prior where she has a nightmare where she screams and then like the next day is “triggered” by the guy mc trying to be sexual with her. But then all the other sexual stuff nope no triggers even DIRECTLY after the rape scene when she’s in the hospital still.

✨This girl got raped in this book, in detail, and I kid you not she was more upset about the grandpa dying in the beginning than she was about that. Then she goes to Heaven or whatever and is just told to forgive the nutcase because he was Ill and oh look his baby mama is still in love with him even though he’s a rapist.

✨finally bc I’m sick of typing these up now. The whole pregnancy thing didn’t make sense at all. Tbh You could tell this author is not a mother due to the pregnancy stuff and just the way she was written as a parent. No mother would leave their child behind for any reason.

ONE MORE THING, there is no reason to say “the latter” that many times in one book.

DNF at 64%. It was honestly very hard to get even to the 64%. Both characters were very unlikable and acted very immaturely. The "alpha" in this story was a jerk. He knocks her up when she's 15 and he tells her he doesnt want her and she's a mistake, so she moves away and has zero contact for 5 years. Fast forward she goes home and Alpha Nick realizes he has a child and supposedly loves her. So what does he do?
She has what's clearly PTSD from being kidnapped, and then he kidnaps her to keep her safe.... but their son goes missing, she goes to look for him, ends up being kidnapped, and the alpha says it's her fault she was kidnapped again.... 🤦‍♀️ (side note, how do all these bad guys keep getting on his territory and kidnapping people undetected?)
Another HUGE thing that I could not help but dislike, their wolf selves were like alter egos. They had different names. Different personalities. It was literally 2 separate people in one body and it made me cringe everytime Nick and Nickolai switched places. It made all the wolves sound like they had multiple personalities and it was weirdly done.

I know I know - this one is my fault. But this has to be one of the worst covers I have ever seen so of course I had to pick this up. The baby looks like he / she was very uncomfortable and objected to this book almost as much as I did.

Anyway, what I was really thinking was that this would be a quick, mindless werewolf mate story. I don't mind these on a Saturday as I take a break from chores and basically adult responsibility.

Unfortunately, this book didn’t work for me. The plotting was odd - there are a number of plot threads which pop up without warning and are resolved too simply. This felt like the way fanfiction does where the story lurches from chapter to chapter. Now this is not necessarily a bad thing but there were one too many threads for the book to keep my interest.

The lurching plot also meant that the characters are pretty thin. There are, for example, two gay male best friends here. They were so cliched in the same way that I kept mixing up the two men. There is a lot of screaming on page in place of actual drama.

Plus - let's be honest. A lot of the charm of these types of romances is the steaminess between the leads. Her all the sex between the leads is off-page and mentioned in one line.

“My virginity is soon taken away multiple times that night: on the wall, the couch, the kitchen counter, and the bed. Oh, how I wish I stayed home.

You and me both, lady. (This is the first encounter the leads have).

Anyway - not my cup of tea. 1 star

Warning...Safety Gang... Spoiler

This book had a good start, and it definitely has a good story premise. However, I didn’t like being thrown into a quick rape scene unexpectedly. I thought for sure something would happen so the scene would get interrupted... but nope. What I don’t insert is this- how can we get a tad bit of detail on that horrible scene, but not when Rose and her mate, Nick, actually do the deed? Makes completely no sense.

To be honest- I had planned to rate the story higher until the major drama started to played out towards the end of the book. Once that started happening, it made me start to dislike it. Things that bothered me...
1. Rape scene without any warning stated so I had no idea when I got the book.

2. The wolves in this book have different names then their human forms. Just weird.

3. Rose is kidnapped, raped, rescued, died- comes back to life and bam, she and her mate are going at it as soon as possible? Like the same day she died ?? And basically was the same day or day after her sexual assault?

4. I didn’t get Jason, Wyatt, or Amber’s motivations.

5. Wyatt’s sick behavior is blamed on his sickness and made to be all okay because it wasn’t truly him in his mind- so that makes it all okay in the end by his mate and Moon Goddess!? What??

6. Rose is dead for an hour then- bam, she’s back ??

7. Jake just becomes gay out of nowhere when he and his mate find each other!? Like what?

8. Jake and Marcus’s little drama at the end was plain dumb and pointless.

9. Needed better editing.

So... I didn't really like this one but I also didn't dislike it.

Does that make sense? No? Okay.

What I mean is, this didn't bring out any emotions from my cold dead heart. When it comes to rejected mates I want to feel that heart break and I didn't get it with this one.

I felt like Rose was way to stubborn at times for her own good. Like girl, give the man a break. I love a good grovel to but when its dragged out because the h is just hard headed, it takes away from the good.

She was so hard headed she left her son with that man, as a Mom I was all "Hell nah!".

I also felt like the whole kidnapping crazy man thing was thrown in out of left field, like why? Tell me the reason, was it because then she was able to have the Moon Goddess or what not tell her it was okay to be with Nick. *head scratch* So your just going to listen to the this Moon Lady and all is good, but when it came to your son you still were like Hard pass?

If you can't tell Rose frustrated me. I wanted to muff her a few times just so she could think about her actions.

Now don't take my opinion on this one as gospel. You might love it, who knows. I wouldn't say don't give it a chance. Just don't expect it to feed your soul.

If I could give this author less I would

I have no idea why this author started writing. It is an affront that she put this as a romance novel. I am all for dark romance, but this was just lewd and disgusting with the rape scenes. The villain rapes the woman in front of her mate. It just got worse from there. I couldn't and didn't want to finish it. This book should NOT be in romance and the alpha male is written more like a pansy than anything. Half the book makes no sense. Like woah.

☑️ violence towards child

❌ ow or cheating

This is a first novel by a very young author. Many of the poor reviews mention problems that can be attributed to the author’s age and thus lack of knowledge while writing. So I kept this in mind while reading and reviewing this story and gave some grace.

Rose is not even 16 when one of her childhood friends, Nick, recognizes her as his mate on his 18th birthday. His wolf takes over and there’s no waiting and no foreplay. The following morning Nick coldly rejects her and leaves pack lands. It comes out later he never wanted a mate, he was a playboy and he felt bad about how he treated her that night because him and her brother made a pact to protect her from guys like him. Remember, the kid is 17 just turning 18 so not very mature. After finding out she’s pregnant Rose leaves. Six years later she’s called back home and the rocky story of their HEA begins.

I loved that Nick is immediately apologetic. There’s no cold bully asshole here. He understood he made a mistake, he looked for her, and he’s excited to see her again. He’s not planning on letting her go this time.

Rose isn’t so ready to get her heart broken a second time. Good for her. We have great side characters with comic relief from Marcus, caring brother Jake, flirty friend Noah and extended family. I really enjoyed all the characters!!

There’s dark trials and tribulations but in the end we get a happy epilogue that’ll make you smile.

Common Complaints with the plot and other notes:

1. Nick said he looked for her and didn’t know where she was. It seemed everyone else knew? Her mom knew about the baby but not her brother? Her mom sent plane tickets? So, that was a weak plot point.
2. Her brother Jake threatens Nick when they’re first mated not to hurt her. He does, but somehow Jake is still his friend and beta and even brings him to the airport to pick up Rose? Why would he do that to her?
3. There were other minor timeline and editing inconsistencies but nothing I haven’t seen in books by well established authors.

I know the bad reviews mentioned that she just forgot the kidnapping and rape and went on to have sex with Nick right after. It was easy to miss, but the moon goddess blessed them with a do over when she came back from the dead. It was like the rejection, kidnapping etc never happened. See my highlights @ 74%. The fact he didn’t let her heal and the entire not being able to have a baby plot I attributed to authors age (15).

So yes there were definitely some things that reflected the age of the author, but the characters, humor and feelings from this story make up for it. I’d love to see this story edited and republished.

Nick:

“I sit down on the side of the bed, careful of her fragile body. I open my mouth to say something, anything, but the words don’t come out. All the tears I have been holding in pour out of my eyes at once—the regret of not wanting her, the guilt of letting her get kidnapped, and the fact that I was completely useless to her. My tears stream down my face, and my hands shake as I struggle to breathe properly.
Watching.
Waiting.
For nothing.
No one’s coming. She’s not coming back.”

“Mommy, why is there a dent on the wall?” Will points to the area the doctor was pinned to. “Why don’t you ask your dad?” Nick looks at me before he switches his gaze to Will. “Well, you see, Will, when you don’t get the answers you want, you have to do whatever’s possible to get them.”

This book is so poorly written. It has ZERO emotional depth, no coordination and if any editing was done then it’s laughable. I went into this story for a rejected mate/secret baby story and while it had this the book lost direction somewhere. The FMC was angry and not emotionally battered as I expected. Not attractive, btw. She was so angry that she gave up her child instead of trying to work it out. How is that romantic?!?

Then the book went sideways more than once. In one scene it looked like the author was going to have the FMC have amnesia and then in the very next chapter it doesn’t happen. The second sideways plot twist is the villain that really comes out of nowhere, assaults a child, abductions the FMC r@pes the FMC, tortures the MMC, the villain then manages to kill the FMC even though he was already dead. Yes you read that right. The MMC killed the villain but apparently he wasn’t dead enough that the villain had one last gasp in him to manage to inject poison into the FMC as the lead couple escapes.

Then the weird situation of the FMC in limbo. She meets the villain in limbo and he was all healed by the moon goddess and he doesn’t apologize or explain what he did. The FMC doesn’t forgive him either so I wasn’t sure what was the point of all that other than to be guided back to the world of the living. The FMC was literally dead for several hours and then comes back to life and now all is well. She has s e x with her unforgiven mate on the day she comes back to life. Never mind that she had just been r@ped in front of him the day before. They are told she might not have more babies, but wait(!), she is instantly pregnant. Then the HEA.

Honestly, this book is a mess. I think I read somewhere that this is a story from one of those pay by chapter apps and it reads like it. It should never have been published as it is now. Every sentence has to be read twice just to figure out what it’s was actually supposed to say. The plotting and pacing of the story was all over the place like it had no direction other than to include as much drama as possible.

As for the character arch’s, there wasn’t any. Nothing was ever actually resolved. They went from one dramatic situation to the next. It’s never more than once discussed why the MMC rejected the FMC. Because he felt he was protecting her from a douchebag type of male, himself. But yet every other mating is accepted instantly. To the point that straight men turn gay for it. So this rationale makes absolutely no sense!!

What else was not mentioned, whether the MMC was with other women the six years they were separated. He says he stopped looking for her after one year at some point in the book and at another he thinks to himself that he was handling never seeing her again during those six years because he thought she was dead. Wth!!? Another thing not mentioned, after being r@ped and tortured neither of them has any PSTD type issues. It’s like it never happened.

Lastly, some basic issues with the beginning of the story, some people knew where the FMC was and about her son and others didn’t but the MMC somehow managed to be completely unaware that they knew, he’s the alpha btw, but she returned by those same people’s request and he was there to pick her up and he isn’t surprised that they knew about her. It was such a conflict of story telling that I was beyond disgusted with this story from the start.

Like I said, this book is very poorly written. Don’t waste your money or your brain cells on this sh!t.

At least, I read through it. I guess, it was okay. I'm a little more lenient, when it comes to misspellings and such. So, I'm not that hard on the author. I mean, it is work to write a book. And that has to be honored.

And the idea behind the book was interesting enough, that I picked it up. So, I give it a try. Even though, the idea might not have been a bad one, the story isn't well-written. I have no problems with the misspellings and other mistakes, though some of them were confusing. Authors are humans, so making mistakes is humanly. Even with a proofreader, who is a human too, some mistakes aren't found.

But what was really problematic for me for one is, that the story is very sudden in the progress. Like, there are some many changes in the plot, without being fully explained or solved. For example, the villain Wyatt, who just suddenly appears. And all the characters, who are mentioned, but we never get to know them well or fully. Character building was thin. Or what was the most annoying to me, that I don't know why this all happens? It's mentioned that Wyatt was sick or that he is a hunter? So what was the problem with Jason being a wolf? What about Akilah and her mother? What was their story? I mean, if you mentioned things in a book, then explain it at least fully.

Then there was the whole strange relationship between Rose and Nick. She really acts more like a juvenile. And for a person, who was raped, she didn't really act like one. I mean, she directly has sex with Nick after that incident. Not normal behavior.

It would have been all better, if at least there were good steamy scenes. In the epilogue, I just thought it was off-page, because she was 15. I know a lot of people have issues with that, if the female is a minor. But even later, everything is off-page. And mind you, no teasing sexy scenes between them, that build up anything. Had I known from the beginning, that this is a fade to black story, I hadn't read it. I mean, we got more details on the rape scenes than on the deed between her and Nick.

Overall, I give my usual 3 stars. I never rate under 3, because there rarely is a book that is that bad to grant something like that. And the author at least wrote a book. And I could read it. There are far more worse books out there.

Enjoyable read

Skylar Thomas is a new to me Author and I will definitely be checking out more of her work after this!

Any who knows me knows I love Wolfie books and I have been binging rejection books like I’ve been starve4d for them and this one hit the spot.

I enjoyed watching Rosaline and Nick Rollins story. I found the Mate situation interesting. Its not everyday in wolfie books you get MM couples, especially Alpha couples and not more than 1, but I really like that inclusion in the book. It made the whole story stand out from other of its kind. I enjoyed the progression of the characters growth. I would have liked to see more tension between them when they came back together but what was there was good. I also feel like the build up and events to do with Rosalines past trauma was lacking and would have liked more build up for that and also the whole event to have lasted more than what it did just to hype the emotion throughout the story but I really enjoyed it especially what happened at the end of the event. I would have also liked the fighting scenes to be a little longer and more with an urgency feel to them otherwise they were ok.

The story as a whole was great. You could see what the author was trying to accomplish with the plot and I feel like she did a great job. Its definitely hooked me enough to see what else she has in store. It had everything from heartbreak to swoon and some spice. Easy to read and set at a great pace, nothing felt overly rushed and everything played out great.

Kind of ridiculous

This is the story of emotionally immature people who scream their emotions and throw vases (I think three pottery pieces buy it) when they are upset. They also do incredibly stupid things (think of watching a horror movie and screaming at the actors not to do the incredibly dumb thing they’re about to defy all common sense to die doing). It also features many grammatical mistakes, including repeated confusion of there/they’re/their. There are plot holes to drive big rigs through, and (minor SPOILER) a bizarre post-death undeserved forgiveness scene of a rapist/kidnapper/torturer where the moon goddess is all happy to show him to his victim and say, ‘he was just ill, but I fixed him now! Yay!”

Add in stilted dialogue and bad timing on plot points and I wish didn’t waste my life on this. One example: the heroine is kidnapped and things are dire…the chapter ends on the cliffhanger, and we know terrible things are happening to her…and then the author decides to go back in time a few hours so she can tell us the cute story of the little boy turning into a wolf and meeting his wolf side for the first time. It was sweet, and had no business being there because it was impossible to care about that sweet interlude when you just want to know if his mom is being brutalized or not.

To be fair, this is a young author and maybe she will learn and write better stories in the future.

INteresting story. Rejected mate. CHild with hero whom he met at the age of almost 6 for the first time. He worked for grovel and earned it eventually.

I really liked the characters and family bond.
Overall story was good but it was not deep. There was a villan who was apparently ill so he got obsessed with our heroine and raped her twice. There were other villians who help villian 1 to get the heroine but why? Why did they do it? There was no mention of any animosity between any characters so all that plot seemed pointless. There was an OW who wanted hero for herself so she did cause some problem for heroine directly and then she was found to be involved with helping our villians but why she was helping them never came out. It is just my assumption that because of her jealousy she was helping them. Author should have clarified it on paper somehow.

Overall not a bad plot. If some details were added it would have earned another star.

I tried to just keep reading to finish this book. It was so cringy and inconsistent. MC just leaves after getting pregnant because Nick tells her “rejects” her. Son is 6 but in pre-k even though she was gone for 5 years. Nick “couldn’t” find her even though her best friend which is her brother’s mate knew and mom knew here work number. Mom and best friend also, knew about her son but her own brother didn’t which again is mated to the best friend ?!? Out of nowhere we find out MC was kidnapped and raped, which is just random. Fast forward she is kidnapped again and raped in front of her mate Nick, she goes into a coma and dies. In the in between she sees her rapist and his mate that just brush away all his actions with “he was just sick”. No reason why he targeted her at all. Then she comes back to life and her and Nick are ready to have sex?!? They have sex and the condom breaks and he just brushes away with “well you might not even be able to get pregnant because you have tearing in your vagina” from the rape he witnessed. 🤯 That’s where I stopped reading, it was too much.

Not a bad review

There is definite potential. The story would be good but there’s no connection or depth to the characters. The story lacks substance but with a few tweaks it could be really good. William is almost 5years old but the mother speaks to him as tho he’s a teenager. He had a choice to meet his dad and chose not to. She also had to return home bcos her favourite grandfather was in hospital from the pack being attacked ? That was a bit far fetched and he didn’t seem like he was dying. Drama for dramas sake and super annoying. We’re supposed to believe that this young girl is independent but yet after she sees her grandfather she breaks down and needs her horrid mate to carry her around 😳she has night terrors and her mate tries to find out why by calling Zane? Highly implausible! I hope this review doesn’t discourage the author but empowers her further in her work. All the best!

Doesn't make any sense

The story has potential and wasn't horrible but I just couldn't finish it. It was hard to read , interactions between characters were extremely shallow, dialog naive and so simple it was embarrassing. Then the parts that didn't make any sense and there were so many. Example, main characters go into a fight with wolves that hurt their child and then the whole scene is finished moving to sth else and were left not knowing why those wolves attacked ( not previously mentioned wolf couple from the pack during a birthday party. Just bizarre) We don't know why they did what they did and what happened after. Then there is a whole page of unpacking this huge birthday present from the father if the boy, all that joy and so on so on and we are left not knowing what the present was just that it was huge and amazing ahhahaah . And there is plenty of those sort of situations. Obviously the editor did not do a very good job:)

Blink. Blink..ummm.

Spoilers. Key plot elements are flimsy. All angst, not much romance. Twists are disjointed. Nefarious characters feel randomly tossed in here and there. Alpha is inept but supposedly is respected, until he isn’t, but let’s ignore that. Non essential (to the story) pack members submits but most key players don’t seem to be very respectful. Sex scenes are three sentences each except the rape. That gets a more attention. MC relentlessly denies reconciliation time after time, and denies childhood friendship weight in relationship/forgiveness logic; but, immediately after the harrowing escape from kidnapping, rape and death, suddenly love is in the air, all is forgiven and she’s hot for claiming even joking about not getting it fast enough... when literally still torn up in her sensitive areas from the fresh trauma? ...riiight.

Kinda pissed

I was liking the story but it threw me off. First off, there is a rape scene that the author doesn't warn you about. That kinda sucked. There is more detail on the rape scene then on the 2 consensual scenes. And that's all there are. There are a lot of parts that seem like they would be important that the author glazes over and parts that don't make sense. Anyone who has ever experienced sexual trauma knows it takes a toll on you. This author has the main characters hooking up basically right after a rape. OK kidnapping, rape, death, and then sex? Like no downtime? She just got raped and died and her MATE is like"hey doc, she good to go for sex?" Seriously WTF. Its sad because I was liking the story and then it just went squirrels. Read at your own risk but be prepared to be disappointed on the last few chapters big time.

The storyline was great, fun and dark but there were tons of plotholes too. I did enjoy everything and could even ignore the minute plotholes but the ending scene wasn't right.
Apart from that, I liked how we see 2 gay couples and a tiny amount of their dynamic.

TW: Rape

My major issue is that the aftermath of the rape scene wasn't properly focused and written, it's brushed under the table like nothing ever happened. Rose was raped infront of her mate Nick and it's shown that she has no mental effects at all and Nick apparently asks the doctor when they can have sex.
Very weird.

It's very enjoyable.

It's a pretty good book, however, there isn't a whole lot of excitement until the last third of the story. It's mostly a love story with a bit of danger later in the book. It's also about a little boy, as if you couldn't tell by the title, but more like his relationship with his parents. It's a bit predictable as it's a HEA story, but it's still a good read. I find most shifter/werewolf stories that are love stories to be kinda predictable, at least the ending anyway. You'll love Will, he's sweet, and smart, and so adorable. You'll wish every kid was just like him! The story is reasonably well written, not too many mistakes. I recommend this story if you're into something a little more laid back. No adventure, mystery, a little action, no real sex scenes, but there's drama. Enjoy!

So cliche and juvenile.

And yet, totally (yes, I know they are shifters, but would think SOME of their emotions would be humanish) unrealistic.

Specifically, Rose is raped - in front of Nick - yet she and Nick have sex immediately with no trauma response.

She's only 15 when Nick declared she's his mate, screws her, and dumps her. Even though he shouldn't have known she was his mate til she turned,16. No real reason is ever given for the rejection and no grovelling is done, though he supposedly regretted it.

William turns six though his parents hooked up five years ago. And he goes from sounding like a three year old to a sixteen year old and back again, and I'm not talking about when he's actually 16 at the end.

IDK, there's so much wrong here and I can't be bothered trying to list everything.

Unmates…

Spoilers:
Rose and Nick find out they are mates. He has sex with her then in the morning he tells her it was a mistake and for her to leave.
She ends up pregnant and decides to leave her pack. She has raised her son and gets by.
Her mother calls her and wants her to comeback as her grandfather is dying. When she gets there Nick learns he has a son. He acts all hurt because he missed time with his son.
Rose doesn’t give in and forgives him easily. Nick tries to win her but really doesn’t put much effort.
The characters weren’t really fleshed out and I was left with a lot of questions.
The rape scene was totally unnecessary and just made Nick weaker in my eyes.
Could have been a better book.
Still was an interesting story.

The end🧐🤔🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

The book started with the rejection of Rosealine, Nick thinking she isn't good enough for him...🤬 Of course, she got pregnant and flew her pack for 5 years. But then her gramps got attacked and she has to go back to her pack to say him goodbye...recipe for a future disaster.
So far, the story was interesting and I liked that Rosealine didn't cave in and kept rejecting and punishing Nick. Well deserved assh*le!
But the end...🙄 It's a total mess...scenes and events disconnected where you didn't understand the point...maybe the author is introducing sequel here but it's really loosly made! Rosealine became all lovey dovey and lost her sass and bravery...a shame!
The epilogue was ok.
So I'm disappointed by the end...☹️

(TW)

I originally read this book because I liked the plot and the whole secret baby thing has always been my favourite taboo but there are many things in this story that both angered and upset me.

One, I felt as If Rose held onto things for too long and than there are situations where she didn’t hold grudges long enough. She also always took out her emotions on the love interest and seemed overall kinda selfish.

Secondly, this is where the trigger warning comes in, I’m upset that the author kinda just brushed off the fact that the heroine was raped and blamed the fact that the supposed rapist had an “illness”. That’s truly disgusting and disappointing.

Wonderful books with many twists

I absolutely love the story plot! It kept me reading with a new twists all along. I also love that there's alot of life meaning , lessons and aspirations in it.

I left it at 4 starts because there are some parts that aren't clear. I would reread those and try to place out how they went from the last to current and just envisioned what was missing. It wasn't anything significant and didn't take away from the story or confuse me, just enough to know more detail was needed in those areas. A little more editing and this would be 5 stars no doubt!

No trigger warning

Be aware there's a full rape scene with no warning. Not that it mattered in the book because not even 24 hours later she's having sex with her mate without any trauma. Book was all over the place. The 5 year old child act and spoke like he was 10 just all wrong for the character. Rose played victim for like 80% of the book. She tried to come of as self less but she seemed pretty selfish. She gave her 5 yr old son the option to see his dad but she never gave that option to the father. Then picks up and leaves the kid behind with the dad. Needs editing baddddd. Only read if you habe nothing else to read.
