Because of an accidental encounter with a video drone, the greatest myth in America is proved to be real. The ultimate predator is forced to defend its territory. Man has met his match and has encroached upon the home of the Kings of the forest. Calamity ensues.
A rather jarring tale full of human stupidity faced with a intellect that they cannot understand. This novel is a cryptid nightmare, when only our tools are what separates us from a rabbit or deer. Humans have a consistent issue, our hubris. It this novel it is apparent that we excel in that hubris to the point of stupidity when faced with a opponent that is larger, stronger, and faster and with the mental capacity to learn and strategize but most of all to be angered and to understand what is the focus of the anger. To say that I as the reader enjoyed this story would be a understatement. I will hope that this author deigns to write another book to continue this evolution of a new found species looking to usurp our lightly held place at the top of the food chain.
I don't like short stories I admit I'm a snob I want more than one dorito. I want more than one bite of steak I want more than one sip of my tea. However I downloaded this book based on the fact that it was at least 200 pages a tad over give or take and I do love creature features like this. I saw that the next two books are even shorter but it's interesting I figured out the appeal at least I think for some. These little diddies get straight to the point the action is so quick and so there and in your face you hardly have time to take it all in, in this book there is no soap opera no in between pointless boring filler that some novels tend to go into ( cough) (King). The author was able to maintain character development to degree I was really impressed there are some characters I would love to know more about and hopefully he returns to this part of the world someday. I would also love to see more from the hominids point of view when the author went there it was fascinating. I do have one issue with this story though this is when my issues with short stories and novellas come out to play and that is I wish that I wish this was a novel because there room for fleshing out the story. It's so fast paced that things that took place in the book would happen so fast that theres really not enough info to take some of it in it just bam it happens and it's done. But other than that I had a hell of a time with this story and I'm going to read the next two.
Why, oh why, didn't I read this earlier. I love all books about almost any creature but a book about Sasquatch makes my day. I hesitated to read this because of its cover. I know that's a stupid thing to say but, yes, I judged it by the cover. Enough about that. Once I began to read this, I was hooked. The story takes you through several periods of time into the present. The characters are great and I was drawn in immediately. The Sasquatch were amazing! There is quite a bit of gore, as there should be in my opinion. Please note, there is one brief gory moment which might be disturbing to some but it does help to show the Sasquatch's nature. In between the horror of it all (I mean this in a good way), there is humor and companionship. So, if you love Sasquatch, this is truly a fantastic story which should be on your must read list. I myself am on to the sequel.
Thankfully there is interesting character development and historical back stories. There are a few items I think were danglers but overall, great job at that. Now, I’ll pick a little on this passage, where the author seems to not know the difference between a cycle “phase” and an experience “fazed”. Why do these authors shun professional editors? It’s quite annoying. Here is the passage with multiple issues as an example:
He had seen the ugliness of war. A disembodied head wasn’t going to phase him too much, but several soldiers around him were losing their stomach contents. He looked at TwoCrows and his buddies. They were more unphased than he was.
No.
No one was cycled, or phased, at all. Try harder. Do better.
This isn't my favorite Bigfoot story but it was well thought out. The area sounded beautiful. I didn't care for the idea that Bigfoot was as intelligent as humans. It makes them sound too human and then that makes it more like a war novel than anything else. I felt the same way about the story "Clickers". Why make an animal out so much like a human that they might as well be human.
I was torn over the characters - sometimes I really liked them and other times I thought they were ridiculous with the choices they made.
Kudos to this author, Jeffrey B. Miley, in writing a plot with such originality. The subject has been written in the same way so much that finding this gem was fantastic! I was glued to this book, reading well after 3 a.m. to finish it. I definitely recommend this book to any Sasquatch/cryptozoology/ "monster" readers out there. Enjoy!
I enjoyed this story very much. It reads as a pretty accurate description of events if Sasquatch was discovered in such a way.
I like the interaction between the characters for the most part, but I think there were perhaps too many players. Could have been weeded down just a little.
I love stories about the sasquatch! I like to think of them as mellow though, so it was a bit hard for me read. However, I didn't want to put it down until I found out what happened to the main characters! I also liked native American character that was respected for his knowledge.
I enjoyed this book very much, I am not a believer but find the subject interesting. The author put more detail into describing this Creature than any other book I've read, not only physical but he gave it/them a personality of sort. Not a pleasant one by any means but one that made sense.
Warning: this is not Harry and the Hendersons. These sasquatch are, literally, out for blood. They will EAT you! We are sweet to them. Fortunately, the readers are not on the menu. (There are more books for us to read.) This has a wide list of characters that get whittled down fast. We are no match for these big beasts! This is a good place to start the series!
Good Book. First Sasquatch attacks on Native Americans then jumps to the early 20th Century and finally present day. Kind of felt sorry for the female towards the end, even though she had done a lot of damage before that. I will read this author again.
Going into this I expected this story to be a run of the mill Bigfoot tales like most books . There is so much detail to this I had to stop and think, did I miss this on the news ? I truly enjoyed this book .
Fantastic introduction to the Sasquatch. It all seemed as realistic. More like a recent horrible event. Kept me on the edge of my seat. Can’t wait to start the next book.
Have read a handful of Jeffrey B Miley's sasquatch series and figured I would start from the first. Did not disappoint. Enjoyed the history of the beasts leading up to the main event.
This was another excellent read. You must’ve been in the service for you surely know how the government works.. Seems to higher the rank more asinine. People I respected the most in the service or your sergeants and captains.
Overall the story was well written and moved at a decent pace. The were a few areas where terminology was used incorrectly, but otherwise I enjoyed it.
Jeffrey Miley has a creative mind to put all of this together. His creature is something like a Sasquatch but not quite. Action from start to finish pretty much all candy so not a lot you have figure out. it is an entertaining book to read. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I liked the story, I love creature tales... For me the writing was a bit stilted, and did not flow as smoothly as polished authors. However, the power of the story held my interest and I will read the next one!
