She promised her love would set him free. He promised he’d break her. They were both right.
Brady Hewitt was all too familiar with the horrors of war. They clung to him, or maybe he clung to them, using the nightmares as an excuse to keep others at bay—especially his boss’s daughter, Hadley Walker. Beautiful, sexy, ambitious, and forbidden. Not just because the former Special Forces soldier respected her father and liked his job. She was too good for him—all sunshine and smiles while he was darkness and filth.
Hadley Walker knew all about love—how it felt, its power, and its ability to heal. Her parents taught her first, then her uncles, cousins, and siblings. Her family taught her something else—never quit, never retreat, and never turn your back on those you love. Hadley’s mission was simple—convince the man she’d fallen in love with to take a chance. But winning the battle wouldn’t be simple. Brady Hewitt was as stubborn as he was traumatized, clutching to his demons and refusing to let them go. Though Hadley’s persistence gave her a tactical advantage—the more she pushed, the more he wanted to believe.
Just as Hadley’s winning the war, with Brady teetering on the edge of all the beauty they could share, disaster strikes. Ugliness wraps itself around Brady’s heart and he shuts down. Leaving Hadley with one last question: who was right—her or Brady?
Does love conquer all, or are there some nightmares that never let go?

Okay, so the part of this story that’s actually what’s in the blurb… that being Hadley and Brady… is a decent read. Three stars, but it’s drowning in storylines from OTHER BOOKS! Why?
What works….
“I was done playing games with Brady. Either he was in or he was out, but I wasn’t using my heart as a checker piece trying to reach his side of the board to see if I got kinged or jumped and captured.“
The FMC, Hadley, is the chick you go to war with… the modern day Braveheart of badassery. I love that she’s been patient to ensure she’s ready for what she wants. I love that her mindset is to fight, but not beg, for love. It’s refreshing for an FMC to be brave, but do it in a smart way. She says what needs to be said when it needs to be said, and she holds back to think when she needs to sort her shit. Toward the end, she makes a miscalculation and finds herself in danger. <<< I never felt she made any stupid decisions, but she felt like she did.
Hadley is a 5 star character in a 3 star book.
I adore her stance on the censorship of books and niche bullies. Beneath this story is a strong one about the state of the written word. I dish out a lot of 1 star reviews minus the kid gloves, but I think every book deserves to be written. It’s up to every reader to determine if they want to read it or not, and how it does or doesn’t work for themselves. So, yes, I applaud the message here about standing up against anyone who says a book shouldn’t be accessible because it might offend me, you, or someone else. Our choice is in the reading of it, not it’s creation and accessibility! Bravo for a strong literary message!
Anyhoo….
The MMC says all the wrong things in a quest to be OTT careful and protective of his younger (7-year age gap ) FMC…. And then he says and does all the RIGHT things. Sweet baby gzus… the things that come out of that man’s mouth are just perfection. It’s what every woman in love wants to hear and feel - protected, but never tied down or treated like a child. He’s the alpha male with brains as big as biceps. BUT, then he f’s up royally and says and does all the wrong things again. No worries, he makes up for it.
I completely rooted for and believed the ILY of the story. No Ow\Om drama.
Love how smart and caring the couple was about the nightmares.
Then, at 66%, a blow came that rocked all my feelings. He claimed her and wanted forever, even knowing he would refuse to give her a traditional sense of that. Screw the nightmares and family drama, this should’ve been his first confession. For an intelligent man, a last name is really his HEA hang up? I get his hatred, but as a military man, he wasn’t solution driven on this … just plain old head in the sand, and her dad had to yank it out. Eventually, all is as it should be.
So, why is this book not five stars?
#1 I don’t think I can call this book Hadley and Brady’s book since at least 30-40% was about Liberty.
CHAPTERs 15, 24, and 25 … and 26 … and 27 … and 30 … and 40
Why all these chapters spent recounting Liberty’s story, dissecting Liberty’s story, finishing Liberty’s story? It bogged the story down.
Many chapters are entirely about Liberty/Drake and their side characters of Trey, Luke, Logan, and Matt. Liberty is from a DIFFERENT SERIES <<< This is going to mean nothing to the reader without having read Liberty’s book. I happened to have read Liberty’s book from The Next Generation series, and it was a supposed to be a standalone. So, why is Liberty’s storyline being continued randomly here? It’s disruptive, and if the reader hadn’t read Liberty, then it would probably be even more intrusive because that reader isn’t even going to know who these characters are.
Chapter 25 then takes Addy and Trey’s story for a spin as it still circles Liberty’s backlog from her book. Chapter 40 is Addy and Trey being set up for the next book.
Chapter 26… back to Liberty’s story for the entire chapter.
Chapter 27… WTF? Liberty’s CO, Wick, gets a POV CHAPTER? Again, nothing to do with HADLEY!!!!
Chapter 30 … yet another entire chapter of Liberty and Wick storyline.
^^^ That’s too much. It feels like author desperation to point readers to other books. 472 pages. This should’ve been a 300 page book minus all the Liberty shit.
#2 Nichole
Since the mystery of Nichole happened 20 years ago, and the MMC is in his early 30s, the reader knows this is something from his childhood plaguing him. A natural assumption would be sibling. Yet, the author purposefully uses words like “my dad,” “my parents,” etc as the MMC is inner dialoguing about Nichole. So, given who she turns out to be, those wordings feel very inauthentic and unnatural. Either avoid using the parents in those thoughts or use the pronouns that would have been natural to speech, and that were used after the reveal….
“It wasn’t like our parents were”
Misleading writing doesn’t equate to mystery.
#3 Danger ~
The escalation here was abrupt, not explained well, and seemed way OTT for some book defacing lol. Why Hadley? Why not any other libraries? Why not any of the other employees or people reading said books? Ehh, this plot point just didn’t work. Too many questions. Too unbelievable.
BOTTOM LINE
Author writes spectacular characters. She writes romance you buy hook, line, and sinker. She just diluted it by not having a believable danger point plot and inserting extensive, unrelated secondary storylines with MCs from other books. 2 stars for all the mishaps.
I did not like this book at all. Honestly, I skimmed through half of the book so thats that. It just wasn't what I was expecting. Honestly the heroine was kind of annoying sometimes and the i was mad at the hero half the time. Does he know that you dont HAVE to change your last name when you marry?
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the Triple Canopy series. I really loved getting to know all the characters in this series, and I really enjoyed this book. This book is heavier on romance than suspense.
This was my first book by this Author, and it will not be my last! I wasn’t sure what I was getting into but halfway through I was hooked and planning the reading order. I loved that the H and h got together right away and that the back and forth happened while they were together. I loved her family and the supporting cast. I loved the underlying drama of solving Liberty’s case, while we knew that Hadley would have her own brush with danger. I loved these strong totally Alpha guys being bamboozled by their women. The layer of suspense and military drama for me is something new, but I loved it.
This was an ok read for me. It started out ok but kind of went down hill for me with the drama towards the end. It was very predictable.
No OM/OW drama
H is 7 years older at 31y. He was a lot more experienced than her. But he was celibate for 4 years to present time. He didn’t want a substitute. He knew she was his forever but felt he wasn’t good enough due to his past.
h is 24y/o and had 2 previous partners. She was kind of annoying to me but didn’t dislike her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Too many story-lines, and instead of shortening it to say "my family", she has to list out all 15 names when saying what they're doing. Who the heck cares? This story isn't about them. Luckily, the lovin' was sexy as all get out 😉.

He’s damaged but she’s going to help him towards the light❤️
Hadley and Brady have been skirting around each other for years❣️When they meet for the first time, Hadley is too young but as the years pass, they each go about their lives until finally the pull they feel towards each other can no longer be ignored😍
Loved this story, the characters are fantastic and I honestly feel as though I’m being pulled into the story as a supporting character and I’m someone looking in which always amazes me and makes me feel as though I’m a part of the action/drama and essentially a part of their large family😁I can’t wait to see what Addy has in store for Trey next😱
Damaged is the first book in The Triple Canopy series by Riley Edwards. Like I always say in my reviews of Riley Edwards’ books is that she is an amazing storyteller and this book is proof of how awesome she is. Hadley Walker has been in love with Brady Hewitt for four years. Since he first came to work for his father and uncles. But he didn’t want anything to do with her. Love Hadley. She is a Walker through and through. She is strong and know what she wants and she wants Brady. Brady has also been in love with Hadley since he first saw her four years ago. But he thinks he is damaged and will bring her down with him. There is also the problem that he works for her father and that he is 7 years older than her. I loved everything about this book. The storyline, the suspense and most of all the love, loyalty and protection. Protection not only for the women, but also brothers protecting each other and having each others back. And Riley is very good at writing that. There were some heart stopping moments and other moments were emotional. The chemistry between Brady and Hadley was smoking hot and Brady is one freaking hot alpha. A wonderful start to a new series where we can still read about all of our favorite characters and meet new ones. Can’t wait for Trey and Addy’s book.
First in a new series, this book gives me everything I wanted. Emotional, captivating and wonderful. The characters were easy to root for and the suspense factor was just the right amount to keep you turning pages without wanting to stop for a break.
Damaged is a great story to start off Triple Canopy. Absolutely loved Hadley and Brady they fit perfectly together. Damaged gave me the feels, so I suggest a box of tissues and your favorite drink when sit down to read Damaged! Happy Reading!!
This is a great start to this series. I'm loving the history behind the connection that these men and women all share. It makes me want to go back to the beginning and start with the originals.
I loved the fierceness of Hadley and the protection of Her alpha man. This is definitely similar in vibe to a number of Kristen Ashley books.
Triple Canopy has arrived! What began in the 707 Series is continuing with Triple Canopy. I didn't quite understand what Triple Canopy meant until Riely posted a photo of the 3 "canopies" a soldier wears when he earns them all. Pretty darn cool. It makes sense why the 707 boys named their company Triple Canopy. In this book, along with Brady and Hadley's story, you also see more of the next generation taking over.
We've seen and somewhat gotten to know Brady over many of the Next Generation novels. He's always quiet and very effective in his job, just very mysterious in his stoicism. In Damaged, we learn why he's so reserved, and Riley has once again brought out all the feels. This story has a different cadence than most of her books. Brady and Hadley have known each other for a long time. For about all that time they have been in love with each other, but Brady has kept his distance.
Brady has PTSD that he is not dealing with, not to mention some other issues. What we get in this book is the healing of Brady and darn Riley if she once again didn't make my eyes leak everywhere over the beauty of this story. Healing and forgiveness. Making it all that much sweeter is the blossoming love story with Hadley and how they learn to trust each other.
Riley does include the trademark suspense and open new arcs of stories to come. You do not have to have read all the previous books to enjoy this sweet love story, although you owe it to yourself to get all the stories. However, you can enjoy the humor, beauty, and steamy goodness of Damaged as a standalone. Seriously though, you're now going to await Flawed, the next in the series just as impatiently as I am.
I love a book that includes a grumpy, tortured alpha hero or a smart, capable self-rescuing heroine and Riley Edwards delivers both in this book. Damaged, the first book in the Triple Canopy series has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steamy sex, dangerous excitement, family moments, intrigue, and even some chuckles, all set against the backdrop of the loud, over the top Walker-Lenox-McCoy-Clark family. Hadley and Brady’s love story has all the feels - fear, redemption, tears, and so much all encompassing, nurturing, protective love. Hadley has loved Brady for four years but Brady has kept his distance due to a number of factors, the primary one being that he believes he’s too damaged to deserve love especially from someone as pure as Hadley. But Hadley is done waiting for Brady and she is determined that he will be hers. On their way to their HEA, Brady has to come to terms with his past and Hadley has to learn to not always live up to being Hurricane Hadley. They both need let go of where they thought they were supposed to be in order to embrace a life better than one either one of them thought was possible. I am excited to hear what happens next for the folks at Triple Canopy. With Damaged, Riley Edwards once again proves she’s a fantastic storyteller.
Family does not define who gave you birth and provided the seed....family is one or more person who has you back, accepts you for who you are, adopts you into their fold and will do anything to protect and love you like they were your own, regardless of where or who you came from. That’s the lesson Brady learns on his journey to his happiness, shredding that sadness from his eyes and all the while having Hadley, a strong woman by his side to help him achieve acceptance and happiness. WOW WOW WOW this read had me on a roller coaster of a ride and I didn’t want to get off of it. Brady, the strong alpha man who has a secret past and a heartbreaking childhood, has been in love with Hadley for 4 years, waiting for the moment that she can become his. But his past has him hesitating, fortunately for him Hadley is done waiting and she is going after what she wants and she wants Brady and nothing is going to stop her. HOLY SMOKES what a read with steam...ahem...steam...heartbreak and heartache...loss...some suspense....and can’t forget the Triple Canopy family who come together and have Brady’s back. There is another warning with this book and that is....don’t forget the tissues....I was reaching for them throughout the read and had to double up on when BRADY’S OURS...HE’S MINE...MY SON were spoken...MORE THAN BREATH....swoon sigh *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
An incredible journey throughout! Another great series starter to pass along more heroes and heroines from the Magnificent Four and their spouses that started this whole wonderful world. Loved Brady and Hadley. For four long years they danced around their attraction, and now it was time, well, Hadley thought so anyway (wink). Without fail, this pulls me deep into their world. Idk if I'm a bystander or one of the characters, but I am there for every step, all in! The Family is always there 100% to back each other, doesn't matter, they're there. It also doesn't matter if you're blood. If they've claimed you, you're family. And they claimed Brady in the most joyful, unique, and tearful way. He finally felt it! Yes, macho guys have feelings that peep out when needed, and make falling in love with them more each day, a reality. Hadley I think, I would liken to the energizer bunny, always going strong, nothing seems to stop her. She knows Brady has issues, she wants to help him, she just didn't realize the extent and how bad Brady's demons are. Until she, herself, gets caught by cult members, I don't think she could appreciate just how much family has to go through to protect their own. She got an up close and personal view, of both the physical aspect, along with all the emotional edges that needed an outlet, but she handled them like a champ, because she was Hadley freakin' Walker. The arsenal of words and phrases used in here had me feeling the intended emotions wholeheartedly and I loved every bit of it. The sighworthy HEA was the best, and a double edged sword for sure. Waiting now for more greatness in book two of the Triple Canopy series.
And just like that the new Triple Canopy series takes off with a stunning book! Hadley Walker is a force of nature, quitting is not in her vocabulary and she wants Brady Hewitt, has loved him since they met, but however much Brady might love her in return he is determined to never act upon it not wating to taint Hadley with the darkness in his soul. Brady has so much angst and pain inside him inflicted by a harrowing childhood and the things he soon as an operator, he believes he's broken, and just can't see him ever being worthy of the love Hadley is offering. Hadley believes she has the strength to help him, Brady thinks he is damaged beyond repair and will bring her down. Who is right? I loved reading about their journey, so full of emotion, heartbreak, hope and healing. This book is a standalone however to get full value and impact you should read Riley Edwards' brilliant 707 series and Next Generation series first (I mean why wouldn't you) because the absolute bonus in this book is along side Hadley and Brady's story there is the resolution of the threat to Liberty, the original 707 feature heavily and Jasper comes into his own with his interactions with Brady - be warned your emotions are in danger! We catch up with most of the New Generation couples, as well as an introduction to some of the characters coming up in future Triple Canopy books. I love Hadley and Brady, theirs is an amazing story with plenty of action, twists and turns to keep you gripped and guessing. It definitely needs to be on your 'to read list', thank you Ms Edwards for this brilliant book. Finally have to say the cover is hot, hot, hot!

I really struggled to make it through this one and I normally like Riley Edwards and this trope. There was almost nothing right about this book. Every aspect was overdone to the point of tedium…the heroine’s “sassiness,” the hero’s blind and unwarranted worship of her, her reactions to pretty much everything, his self-flagellation. What was underdone was a poorly constructed “threat” plot device that was unevenly handled and barely tangential to the story.
An “I’m not good enough” trope that was rinsed and repeated so many times in the story, it made me roll my eyes. And yet another poorly done version of a “sassy” heroine. Sassy should also be smart, witty, and not just nasty…don’t just use pointless backtalk for the purpose of talking back as the sole foundation for how “sassy” our heroine supposedly is. Let’s not get started on her basically becoming non-functional because of damaged books (and I say that as an avid reader). She pretty much tips over…I get being upset, but girl, act like an adult.
She became cartoonish…a parody of herself and hubris. And I hate it when the FMC childishly insists that they can take care of themselves when they couldn’t find their way out of a paper bag. She says she’s not dumb or naive, then goes on to prove she’s exactly that. She’s a spoiled princess. And a 24 year old librarian who can afford to buy a condo in Georgia…that’s a laugh. I just can’t stand any more heroines who are so self-absorbed that they insist on proving themselves in ways that exclude common sense and an IQ above room temperature.
It is also very rare for me to dislike the MMC…but I gotta say that Brady did nothing for me. He did not come across as smart…totally indecisive and ridiculously moody (and not in the broody way)…he didn’t strike me as an alpha at all. But more than that: him being constantly led around by his nose by the FMC? I was embarrassed for him. Blech.
Speaking of embarrassing…the derogatory nickname for Jennifer Love Hewitt? Classy, really classy. It’s a cheap shot and not funny at all.
Another viewer was correct about the author constantly dropping the names of so many previous characters and repeating the same trivial set of unhelpful/irrelevant details over and over…it became totally tedious and I lost interest in reading any of those books (though I thought I had).
Finally, the rampant editing/grammatical errors…does no one else read these before they’re published? I hope you don’t mention your editor in your acknowledgments because they are terrible at what they do.
Oh…and no one recovers from dislocated shoulders that quickly.
Brady Hewitt had the scars of war and the nightmares to prove it. He was no good. His blood was evil, and the Hewitt name a bad seed. He new Hadley Walker was trouble, from the moment he met her... Hurricane Hadley - Beautiful, forbidden. Until Jasper has a heart to heart with him... he wants to claim her as his own, and he needs to do it, before the uncles find out about his Special Ops missions and decide he is not good enough for the family.
Hadley Walker knew Brady was the one for her, but also knew it would take patience and love to convince him they could make it work. She has her work cut out for her, because Brady is stubborn and he believes that forever with Hadley is a no go. Hadley gets through to him and everything is fine, until Hadley's work troubles at the library interfere and she is in danger.
There are loose ends from a previous book that gets tied up in this one, thank you Riley! With those loose ends attention is divided and some situations slips through the cracks. Will Hadley loose both her father and Brady because of revenge? Will she be able to convince them to let go?

Spectacular. Attitude and Sass. "A fun stopper. A joy killer. There might be a colon cleanse for that." Hilarious banter in this book and it's mostly provided by Hadley to get Brady to loosen up a bit. I love Hadley's inner thoughts, learning from the rest of her family she has quite the comebacks (in her head!) "I was determined, not stupid."
I absolutely love Ms. Edwards books as they make you as the reader, run the gamut of emotions. The book is intense, wonderful and a definite page turner. There are so many strong characters in this book, not just the two main characters. The McCoy, Walker, Lenox, Clark clans are forces to be reckoned with and you get them all in this book. Triple Canopy will be just as great as the original stories. There are so many areas that I remember in this book, they are as follows: thoroughly loved, adoration, hurricane Hadley, "Calm, Storm, and Rainbows", JC Penney bra section, Melissa Joan Hart, "We claimed you", "Love Loyalty, Protection." You won't be disappointed.
I received this advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
I want to start by saying that, if you’re not familiar with Riley Edwards’ Next Generation books, you will get less out of this than you would otherwise since some ends are tied up here, particularly for Liberty’s story. This is a standalone, though; it’s just that background adds value! This book focuses on Hadley Walker, Hurricane Hadley – although she’s not very wild through most of it. It contains some of the hottest scenes I’ve read – do yourself a favor and savor them; they are worth it! Hadley has loved (no crush here) Brady since they met, and, however much he’d like to avoid it, the feeling is mutual. Sensibly wary of her very protective family and not wishing to link his “damaged self” to her, Brady has pushed her away – until he can’t anymore, and the rest of the book is a fascinating insight into the damages done by a dysfunctional childhood, pain and mourning and letting go, and trust – of a partner, of parental figures, of brothers. The drama is intense, both with Liberty and the increasing suspense over the threats to Hadley herself and what happens when those are acted on. If I could have, I would have added more stars!

Damaged is the first in a new series and it is just as great as Edwards’ other series. We get to visit with a lot of characters from previous stories and that makes it even better. I really enjoy the continuing family follow-ups and family/friend bonds that started with The 707 series and have continued down through other family connections to their children and their stories. It is great to see them all come full-circle.
Damaged is just as enthralling and emotional as Edwards’ other works. It is easy to be pulled into Hadley and Brady’s story and be invested in all the characters; especially if you are familiar with all the other characters involved in the family dynamics. It is great to catch up with them all and cheer for the newest HEA. Hadley and Brady’s story definitely tugs at the heart and keeps you emotionally invested in the outcome of the characters. Family is not always defined by blood but can also be defined by those who accept you regardless of your flaws or where you came from, stand by your side letting you know you are not alone, and giving you full support, trust, and love and look after you as if you were part of their own. Some of my most favorite parts in this book are of Brady and Hadley’s individual conversations with her dad and other members of her family. Brady and Jasper’s is really touching. There are so many beautiful conversations and so much love and acceptance running through the pages of this story – it is just amazing to read.
I know I may sound like a broken record because I have said it before...Riley Edward's cannot write a bad book. From the damage done that messed with Brady's head to Hadley's go after it attitude these 2 are on a collision course. They have been dancing around each other for years but the time has come to stop dancing and take that plunge. Will the past come back to haunt them? Will a present day threat break them for good? You don't want to miss all the supporting characters there to help them navigate their troubled waters. 5 stars for the introduction to Triple Canopy!
Wow this book has it all..I'm a huge fan of Riley Edwards books, and I always wonder if the next book will be as good as the last one..in Damaged we get up close and personal with Brady, and Hadley..Brady had a horrible and tragic upbringing, Hadley had a fabulous family full of love and happiness, there are things in this book that made me sob, and also laugh..Riley Edwards has once again crafted an amazing book, and a fabulous start to a new series! that is full of suspense, tragedy, laughter, love and most importantly hope! It is beautifully written and the story flows so well. This is definitely one of my favorite books, ii deserves 5 stars plus!
When Brady Hewitt first saw librarian Hadley Walker, he accepted his first thought that she was his. But their seven year age difference, Brady being the latest employee of her family’s company and his own personal demons made Brady keep his distance. But Hadley had decided at that same moment she’d have Brady as hers no matter how long or hard the task.
While Brady wrestles, with his past, Hadley’s present is someone’s defacing the library’s books (a sin in its own right)! Also, with the team dedicating all its resources to Liberty’s ongoing military tinged drama the fruit is a welcome conclusion.
Unfortunately, this was not the outing for this reader who was left with so many questions, such as, did I overlook the plot or was it missing? Was this sexathon the hero rewarding or punishing himself? Would this heroine ever stop begging this hero to love her? I just don’t know. Or care. Rating: 2stars
Damaged: Triple Canopy Book 1 is by Regina Edwards. This series is about an extended family who owns Triple Canopy which looks into various problems that the nearby military can’t or politicians don’t want looked into. It is owned by Jasper Walker and his brothers in arms and is to be handed off to their sons as soon as the elders decide to retire. Hadley Walker has been in love with Brady Hewitt since he was hired by the company. Brady had stayed away from her as he was falling in love with her; but has held off since he was older than she was and had some problems he wasn’t dealing well with. She finally takes things into her own hands and makes him face her and his feelings. The story and book are good but there is too much emphasis on sex and dirty language.
Triple Canopy is a spin off from Next Gen/707 series. I would highly recommend reading both series before diving int TC.
Full of on the edge of your seat action and steam. Brady and Hadley were the perfect pair to start of this new series. Hadley has that Walker spirit of never giving up and her sights are set on the damaged Brady. I stayed up through the night to finish this book. I could not put it down!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Audiobook Review: Feb 2023
I just finished the audiobook and I loved every minute of it. Connor Crais and MacKenzie Cartwright did a fabulous job and brought depth and emotion to the already-charged novel. I highly recommend listening to all of Riley's Audiobooks. SO SO Good!
