When I write reviews for books in a series, sometimes I write a review for each individual book, and sometimes I write a single review that encompasses all the books (more accurately, a review of the series). For this series, however (or at least these first three books in the series), I think I could write reviews, and they would be the same for each book. A single review could be posted interchangeably for each one. I feel like there is that little difference between these three books. The murder victims changed, but that’s about it.

I did think that the author handled Mina’s impending blindness well. I felt her fear, frustration, and uncertainty. She had personal growth around the issue. And so far, there hasn’t been any magical cure, and I don’t see one on the horizon. So, that’s a plus. I also simply liked Mina herself. And I thought the writing was quite readable.

However, I never really came to love the men. I liked them, OK, but that’s about it. What’s more. While the murder mysteries were fine, I chose the series for the fantasy elements and the romance. Other than the fantastical existence of the men and the bookshop themselves (and Morries ability to hack with his phone), the fantasy elements were fairly light. And the romance was definitely a slow-moving subplot. Both of these are fine, but not what I was looking for. So, the result was that I was often bored.

All in all, I think this is a fine series that just wasn’t a great match for me.

A magical bookshop where famous characters come to life? Sign me up! Welcome to Nevermoore Bookshop was my first mystery reverse harem...or mystery book of any kind that I’ve actually finished reading if I’m being honest. I fell in love with Mina, her men, Jo, and Mrs. Ellis! There’s just something about book boyfriends coming to life that puts a twinkle in a book worm’s eye.

I very much enjoyed constantly trying to figure out the clues to find each murderer! It kept me on my toes the entire time! I cannot wait to continue this series and dive deeper into the mysteries of Nevermoore Bookshop.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for an honest and voluntary review

I really enjoyed this fun series by Steffanie Holmes ♥️ It’s a slow burn paranormal RH, with mystery and humor. It’s got a lot of personality and is very fun to read!! The characters are so entertaining!! Throughout the stories, there were some funny moments. Mina is a great FMC!! Plus her harem of fictional characters, from some of her favorite classic books, are fantastic!! Mina, Heathcliff, James Moriarty and Quoth (Edgar Allan Poe’s Raven) are all perfect together!! I’m definitely all in

🖤A Dead and Stormy Night (Book 1)🖤
Mina’s former best friend caused her to become unemployed and blacklisted, from the fashion industry, once she steals her dream job and reveals Mina’s biggest secret. Mina decides to move back home. It’s there that she sees an opening for a new job at her old favorite bookstore, Nevermore Bookshop. Mina gets a spooky feeling from the old bookshop, but stays anyway. She meets and bonds with three mysterious and hot men….Heathcliff, Moriarty and Quoth. When her ex best friend is murdered, Mina becomes the main suspect. Can Mina and her guys prove her innocence before it’s too late……

🖤Of Mice and Murder (Book 2)🖤
The Banned Books Club needs a new place to meet. Mina offers the Nevermore, however Heathcliff really isn’t too happy about it. Ah Heathcliff 😂 Uh Oh….Someone gets murdered!! It’s up to Mina and her guys to solve it…..

🖤Pride and Premeditation (Book 3)🖤
Mina and her guys get locked in the time traveling room, at the Nevermore, where they learn a disturbing prophecy about one of their own. Nothing can squash Mina’s excitement at receiving tickets to a Jane Austen weekend. Where Mina, Heathcliff, Morrie and Quoth go, murder and mayhem isn’t far behind!!

Read on an e-reader

Anyone else feel a bit called out? I read this book on my phone using the store that shall not be named. Heathcliff would be so disappointed.

I loved all the literary references in this, and felt quite at home in the bookshop.

A Dead and Stormy Night

Wilhelmina Wilde dreamed of being a fashion designer, but after being fired from the internship she worked so hard for, she has returned to the small English village where she grew up. She is applying for a job at the bookshop where she took refuge and spent hours reading when she was young. She didn't realize then just how unusual her refuge was, until her new employer tells her know about the curse that brought him and the other two men from the pages of the books where they lived. When Mina's ex best friend shows up and is murdered, she will be accused of the crime. Mina, along with the three men will investigate the murder in an effort to prove that she did not commit the murder.
I loved these well written, sexy, and wonderfully fascinating characters. I think this is a fantastic, sexy, and totally engrossing mystery with some humor, and it all takes place in a magical bookshop.

Of Mice and Murder

Much to Heathcliff's disgust, Mina has agreed to let the women of the Banned Book Club have their meeting at Nevermore Bookshop. Unfortunately, the meeting will end with the murder of Mrs. Scarlett, but she won't be the first of the ladies to meet an untimely end. Mina is determined to get to the bottom of the murders. Mina is also trying to decide which of the three men, Heathcliff, Moriarty, and Quoth, she should choose to enter into a relationship with, but Moriarty will suggest that she doesn't have to choose, the men are perfectly willing to share.
Wow! Fantastic, fun, and sometimes suspenseful plot with unique, sexy, and sometimes funny characters. Absolutely fascinating must read. I loved this book!

Pride and Premeditation

I loved it! Funny, sexy, and unique characters. Mina finds some interesting info about her absent father and finally comes face to face with a character transported from the pages of one of the books she loves, and into Nevermore Bookshop. A local group of Jane Austen fans are having a weekend gathering, to which Mina and her friends have been invited. A jewel thief has been stealing from wealthy residents in and around Argleton, and a murderer will make it a dangerous weekend for everyone in attendance.
Fantastic suspenseful mystery with plenty of twists to keep you guessing until the end. I think this is another must read in a wonderful series of books.

I voluntarily reviewed complimentary ARCs provided by the author.

A not so cosy mysteries

I'm not normally a big fan of 'cosy mysteries' trope but I can't think what other genre to put this in.

The concept of the stories is great. A bookstore that brings literary characters to life...ok yes....the FMC is well thought out...Mina, a punk ex fashion designer bookworm who is going blind...new to me. The male characters are a little different.....Heathcliffe: well we all know his character from Wuthering Heights. Then there's James Moriarty... Sherlock Holmes ' arch nemesis and finally Quoth: the raven from Poe' poem who is a shape shifter.

In each book, 'the gang' end up having to solve a murder they've stumbled on with at times surprising results.

All in all a comfortable easy read

Book 1:
There is a curse on the bookshop. Fictional characters come to life. Yes, really. Mina has an eye condition that is causing her to go blind. When she returns home after losing her fashion job, which she loved, she has to live with her wacky mother. This woman is mad. Mina applies for a job at the bookshop and her life changes.

Book 2:
So many murders and Mina always seems to be the one to find the victim.

Book 3:
Mina and her three lovers, Morrie, Quoth, and Heathcliff are still coming across murders and solving them.

I absolutely love this series and all of the characters. And what a great way to read a series - one book after the other.

Rollicking fun with tear jerking moments

Mina and her band of men now feel like my close friends, such is the depth of character development. I love the flawed characters that make mistakes, hurt themselves and hurt those around them even though it’s the last thing they intend to do. And how they make up for the hurt with love and honesty. Life really is like that.
Steffanie’s revelations of the wonders of books, intertwined with the heart ache of physical and mental conditions, laced with euphoric moments in between kept me turning page after page.
And did I mention there’s multiple murders. Power to you Steffanie, you’re becoming one of my heroes.

A magical bookshop where all of the swoony men from the past come back to haunt! Our heroine is living our dream surrounded by books and hot men!

Mina was hilarious and handled her men from the past with ease. I also loved Jo and Elis! What bookshop do I have to walk through to make this dream a reality?

The murder mystery kept me on my toes and I loved all of the hidden clues that reminded me of Nancy Drew. I can’t wait to start book four and see who the next big bad is.

These books are a fun almost Hallmark version of "Why Choose?" romance. I highly recommend them if you are looking for something fun to read. The spice is in some places a slow burn and in other very much not. I would give it 3/5 chili peppers. The spice where it is at is also very Hallmark-ish. So keep that in mind. It is not fade to black, but it is also not like super duper hot.

So.. I started reading this series because of the authors post on Instagram and I'm finding it a little misleading - it was promoted as a romance book but the romance is not romancing... Is more a mistery/solving crime book with little connection between the heroes, it's quite chaotic in some points and a bit childish..

Book 1 was great; I was immediately sucked into the story and the characters. As soon as I finished it I quickly moved to book 2. However, halfway through that story I felt like there were repeating 'happenings'. I read book three and unfortunately couldn't finish it. The story felt like it was being re-told with bad guys and little development on the actual cliffhanger from book 1.

Holy smokes I'm blown away with how much care is put in this story. From the beginning I was captured by how many twists and turns there are and how they found their own personal love together.

Great story. Lots going on. I love the characters. This book makes me want to open my own little book store. There is a raven now tattooed on my back. Edgar Allen Poe is a favorite of mine. Spicy in all the right ways.

A cozy mystery with spice on the side

A fun romp that I simply devoured. If you merely look on the surface, the title of my review suffices. If you look deeper, there are characters to adore and wish could inhabit your life. Exactly what I wanted in a fun romp of a romantic tale.

Huge disappointment. The book started rather well but with time just turned into crap. I mean, mentions of big cocks, sudden sex scenes and fantasies were so out of scope and so sudden, I just couldn't bother any more. To my surprise I did finish it as my limits for bullshit rang true couple of chapters before the end, only to find who did it (and I am not sorry to spoil it here but it was Darren). I am so not interested to read a follow up.

I enjoyed this series for the most part. It does get a little repetitive as it goes on and the self promotion of her own books was cute the first time but there’s really no need to mention it more than once. The characters don’t show a ton of growth in the 3 books included in this set but stay fairly likable. Overall an easy read.

Binge read

I really enjoyed reading this series. I love the characters and the writing is good and the mysteries are enjoyable. I really love that I can binge the frost 3 books with no pausing. And the bonus scenes? I absolutely adored them. I love being in the guys head so much!
