Lady Eleanor Petersham knows exactly what she wants from her marriage - a man who will worship at her feet.
Instead, her father marries her off to her brother's best friend, the devastatingly handsome, authoritative, and devilishly dominant Lord Edwin Hyde.
It doesn't matter that he makes her entire body tingle when he kisses her, or brings her to heights of pleasure she's never known, or how he disciplines her when she plays nasty tricks on him - like throwing a dinner party which only includes dishes with ingredients he despises - she's not willing to give up on her version of marriage without a fight.
Pain and pleasure struggle for dominance the same way husband and wife do in this relationship.
Birching His Bride is approximately 52,000 words and is an introduction to Edwin and Eleanor's story, their world, and their friends and family. Their story continues in the rest of the quartet... HEAs guaranteed.

Golden Angel is a USA Today best-selling author of heart and bottom warming romance.
She is happily married, old enough to know better but still too young to care, and a big fan of happily-ever-afters, strong heroes and heroines, and sizzling chemistry.
When not in front of her computer writing, she can be found sewing her next project, hanging out with friends, or wandering the grounds of the Maryland Renaissance Festival.
This book is basically the prequel to the series focused on 3 men (Edwin, Hugh, and Wesley) who grew up together getting married (for different reasons) all in the same season. It ends without resolution(s) as all books do in this series until the final book. Each book picks up where the previous one left off.
Lady Eleanor is having her first season a little later than usual because her father felt she had been allowed to run wild under her mother's supervision the last few years while they lived at the country estates. Now that she has returned to London and is once again under her father's watchful eye, he has taken a special interest in making sure she is disciplined and enough of her unruliness is under control so that she can become a proper society wife as expected. Eleanor loves her father, but she does not care for the way he treats her mother (always sending her away when she is clearly miserable without him), and she definitely does not appreciate his method of discipline: humiliating and painful spankings. Therefore, she has been on her best behavior lately so that she will be allowed to have a season and get out from under his thumb. She has a few candidates she is considering: the one thing they all have in common is that they are besotted with her and will permit her to do whatever she wants. As long as she is not in danger of falling in love with her husband, she will have the upper hand, something she feels she has learned watching her parents' marriage: the one who does not love the other has all the power.
Edwin, Lord Hyde, has known Eleanor all of her life as he is one of her older brother, Hugh's, best friends. He has always treated her a little differently from the way other boys have as he has a soft spot for her. When he sees her at her debut, he is enamored with her beauty, and he decides he will offer for her once the season gets going. He is surprised when Eleanor's father requests a meeting with him the following morning and asks him to agree to marry his daughter as soon as possible. Eleanor's father is aware of her plans to marry someone who will allow her to run wild, and he will not allow that to happen. He knows she needs discipline, and he knows that Edwin will provide it; he also knows that Edwin is fond of his daughter and will treat her well. Edwin agrees, and though she is resistant, Eleanor capitulates and marries him the very next day.
But Eleanor has plans to run off with one of her more malleable suitors as soon as she can fend off Edwin's advances. That shouldn't be hard since she cares nothing for him after all. All she has to do is delay their consummation and she can have the marriage annulled. But when Edwin kisses her, she loses all thoughts of escape. Can she resist him long enough to "escape?" Will Edwin be as harsh a disciplinarian as her father? How can she be with a man who takes her over his knee like a child.... even if her reactions to his masculine, take charge mannerisms are anything but child-like?
Meanwhile, Eleanor's brother Hugh is courting Lady Irene, a demure woman he feels will make an excellent wife as she is submissive and agreeable, not to mention beautiful. Nothing like his wild sister - he feels badly for Edwin that he is stuck with such an unmanageable wife as his sister appears to be. And as Irene is receptive to his suit, they wed. But what will happen when Hugh learns Irene has a secret agenda... and she may not be as compliant as he believes?
What I liked: --- I liked Eleanor and Edwin together - very hot and very compatible (also, it is always fun to see a rake fall hard) --- The set up for the next book has me wanting to read on --- Steamy good ness galore (early & often)
What I didn't like as much: --- There is a scene that is unsettling and may be a turn off for some readers
Overall, I enjoyed this introductory story and am interested to see where things go next!
Plot --- 3/5 Main Characters --- 3.5/5 Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5 Steam Level* --- 4.25/5 (no anal, no M/M or F/F, and no menage/group but pretty much everything else - early & often!) Violence --- spankings galore (hand, birch); possible triggers (see spoiler above); also Language --- not egregious (some f bombs) POV --- 3rd
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Birching His Bride is a short novel introducing characters who feature in three subsequent (longer) novels making up Golden Angel's Domestic Discipline series. This book introduces the major players and then focuses on the marriage of Eleanor and Edwin, and their story continues throughout the series - this is not a collection of four standalone romances each dealing with a different couple. Of course, this reader would have known that had they paid more attention to the blurb.
Eleanor and Edwin's story is delightfully told. I'm no expert on the period represented but I feel Golden Angel perfectly captures the feel of other books I've read and period dramas I have seen. Eleanor is delightfully self-centered and naïve when we meet her and this book is largely concerned with her adjusting her outlook on life and dreams for her future and exploring her sexuality. Honestly, it is more of the latter and the author is in her element here giving us an abundance of steamy scenes between the couple.
The end of this book sits uneasily between happy-for-now and cliff-hanger - I wouldn't suggest picking it up if you plan on reading just this volume, but I predict that if you do you'll be sufficiently in love with the characters that you'll want to go straight on to the next book anyway.
This book was quite entertaining. It’s very naughty, but sometimes a girl wants to read that kind of thing! I didn’t really enjoy the beginning when the h’s father birches her. That part was a bit too taboo and uncomfortable for me.
The H is very nice, understanding, and accommodating for the most part. He puts up with a lot of ridiculous antics from the very self-centered and unlikeable h. The h is annoying, selfish, and quite dumb. It’s hard to feel anything for her because she’s so atrocious and spoiled, but it gives the H plenty of opportunities to correct her behavior. This book ends on a cliffhanger, which I loathe. It was a fun read but I doubt I’ll purchase the series in order to continue. I like my h’s a little less vapid.
My reads have had a decidedly literary feel to them lately, so I decided to take a bit of a break by going skinny dipping in the smut pool. And lucky me, this one was a winner!
Despite the title, Birching his Bride didn't degenerate into violence/abuse territory, and despite the pen name, this author definitely has some talent. I was genuinely interested in and cared about the characters.
**Re-read as a Buddy Read in the Dark Erotica group 7th & 8th August 2022** - changing rating to 3.5 stars
This is both a hot read but also has a pretty decent storyline too
The book's title and the series title warn you what to expect, so if domestic discipline (a man spanking a woman for bad behaviour) will rile you then don't read this. However, if you love a well-written historical romance, with some DD and a few kinky scenes then jump right in.
I felt like I devoured this book and adored both Edwin and Eleanor. I felt on edge at first, courtesy of the fab writing that pulled me into the story and made me feel Eleanor's anxiety and worries of not being enough for Edwin.
The modern woman in me wanted to rail at the injustice of her basically having no say in her own life, but that was how it was. Once I let go of my modern-day expectations I found I relaxed into the read and was quite shocked when I got to the epilogue. I needed so much more, especially since we were barely at an HFN point! Thankfully the whole quartet of books is now available, so I don't have to wait to continue Edwin and Eleanor's story, whilst also starting to learn more about her brother Hugh and his new bride Irene!
Edwin and Eleanor. This poor heroine. Though she is not portrayed so nicely either. As the story starts---her dad has her tush bare naked and bent over with everything exposed as he beats her. Strike one. Her brother is watching the discipline (taking notes for his future wife). Strike two. O and he brought in two friends to watch. Strike three. I should have stop there and listened to my gut. It only gets worse from there. So much pain and abuse the heroine in this bdsm story. Well written though.

The devious h thinks she can outwit the H. He is thrilled when her father offers her as a bride. Her self absorption gives him opportunities to discipline her. Well written, good characters and plot.
DNF around 50%. I can take a smutty book, if it has engaging characters and an interesting storyline to go along with it. The first scene that we witness in the prologue was a little odd considering that the brother was watching while his sisters stuff was hanging out. Moving along... the heroine was an absolute selfish, immature brat that obviously didn't mind getting the crap spanked out of her ass. First done by her father, then by her husband. And a few spankings I can get, but 40 swings with the birch? Seems a little excessive. Regardless, this girl just kept doing rude and childish antics to upset her husband intentionally, then would be upset and crying to then need to be "punished".
PS: you will need to read Book #2 to continue and finish this story too, in order to see their HEA conclusion, etc.
3rd read: January 2021 I really like rereading this story, this series actually. The ladies really are fighting their husbands and in this one, Eleanor really knows how to be a brat. The height of it is when she chooses only food that Edwin hates during a dinner party with friends and family...to be that devious... respect LOL
1st read I really enjoyed this story. I especially liked the chemistry between the two, even though Eleanor was fighting it.

3.75 Stars Historical Erotica
I enjoyed this very much. But, I would have liked it more if there was more to the story. It needs something, be it Humor or Suspense etc. As it is, I wouldn't say it's one dimensional, but it definitely needs MORE to keep you involved with the characters.
I like Elenore and Edwin, but neither character comes off as truly mature.
Neither communicate well with each other & in Elenore's case, she doesn't seem to communicate with anyone really. She just makes assumptions and goes head long into acting on those assumptions.
That quality about her was sometimes grin worthy and more often 'Grimace' worthy.
The intimate scenes between these two are Steaming Hot! And very Erotic. Continuing to the next in the series.
Note: This ends in a way that leads into the next book. One of the worries Elenore has, which really becomes annoying by the 3rd book, continues throughout this series. Also, this series would have been better if each book had a definitive HEA for each set of mc's in each book. Instead, the mc's for each book crossover with the others. While I like that the characters crossover into all the books, I don't like hearing Elenore's repetitive thoughts about her One Particular worry over Edwin.
Dear Authors in this Genre: You cannot have it both ways. You cannot equate punishment with sex AND have a brother or father punish the h.
This book veered way too far towards incest for me and was beyond creepy (I don't think these authors realize that what they think is "hot," is for others, just really unpleasant). Some of her other books are better.
I really wanted to like this book, but it missed the mark for me. I was in the mood for a naughty HR book and read good things about this series. For starters this book starts off with the FMC being spanked by her father while her brother and friends (one of the friends is the MMC) watch with out their knowledge. This whole scene read as cringey, creepy and a little taboo. I wanted to give the author the benefit of the doubt on this as she attempts to make this as non sexual as possible for the brother and father, but this goes all out the window for the father. Shortly after this scene the father admits to the MMC that he “disciplines” his wife as well and wants to give his daughter to the MMC as he is aware that he uses the same discipline as well. This swiftly moves him into the creepy dirty old man category and made my skin crawl.
Although this book has some nice naughty scenes the book can’t recover from that. TBH any book no matter how well written would have a tough time coming back from that. To add to this the FMC is bratty, spoiled and extremely annoying. Usually I find myself on the side of he FMC when she is pushed into a marriage she doesn’t want, but not in this case. She spends the majority of the book pouting and plotting because she can’t act like a spoiled child and get her way. Which leads me to the MMC who isn’t a fan of this behavior, but he does enjoy punishing her for it. At times the FMC feels like a sex doll he can acquiesce all his desires on.
This series definitely has potential. I just wasn’t a fan of the leads and the opening 🤢. I’m going to continue with the series, as I’m inclined to believe it gets better.

Eleanor has been spoiled and pampered by her mother for years. Her father puts a stop to this by making sure she is properly disciplined so she doesn't shame the family. He arranges her marriage immediately after her coming out party to somebody he knows will keep her in line as much as he did.
I'm surprised I enjoyed this story. Normally stories like this make me feel very uncomfortable. It's not that I am against it. It's just not really my cup of tea. Something told me this would be different. That this author was different. I was completely right. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books.
I didn't really feel connected with the characters as much as I got connected with the story itself. I cared about them, but I didn't really feel what they felt. I honestly can't say I really cared for Eleanor that much either. She was a spoiled little brat who didn't care about anybody's feelings but her own. Not that she deserved to be treated like a child, but still.
S. Kitten was a terrific narrator for this story. I'm not sure if she narrates the rest of the series, but I sincerely hope she does. I enjoyed hearing her voice very much. it was very soothing. As weird as that sounds. She got some words mixed up here and there, but it still worked. Her performance was beautiful.
I stepped out of my comfort zone with this book. I'm glad I did. This book was definitely wonderful and sensual. It's not what I expected at all. Or maybe I should say that it was much more than I expected. Maybe it defeated all expectations and kept going.
Meh, poor character development. Neither was likable and plot was weak. Yes some erotica but good plots and characters are essential. So many other better series out there.
If you are a fan of spanking, then Birching His Bride by Golden Angel is the book for you. I however just did not get this one. This is book one in a continuing series.
Alpha know-it-all males that assert their "right", as they apparently had in Victorian England, to discipline the females in their lives basically for anything they don't approve of by spanking. You have fathers spanking daughters, husbands spanking wives, just multiple repetitive spanking scenes.
This was my first read by this author that I downloaded as a kindle freebie. It starts out with a father taking his spoiled daughter in hand and trying to get her to change her ways by, yup you guessed it, spanking her. He actually came off as more of a pervert than a disciplinarian to me. The scene was written as a little more than just apparent butt spanking. Just gave me that creepy feeling. Then he of course hands her off to a husband in an arranged marriage, who was chosen partially as he will continue to do the same.
I guess to some people this is an erotic thing that turns them on. More power to them as I am in no position to judge. This happens to the female in the book and she struggles to understand why and what is happening to her. Good question...Hell if I know. I guess it is because I have never been spanked in that way. As a result, I just did not see the connection with these characters.
So if male domination with spanking is your thing go ahead and give it a read. Anybody else may want to take a pass on this one.
There’s really not a lot of substance to this book. Just a lot of sex. The prologue was so very very creepy. I actually had a look of pure horror on my face when I was reading that!
This is after a birching scene...
“As he returned the birch rod to its cupboard, the young men in the gallery were able to stare unimpeded at the sight of the sobbing and chastened Eleanor, her formerly creamy buttocks and thighs now hot and glowing, her cunny swollen and reddened.”
.... a birching that she got from her FATHER!!!!!! WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!?! Why is her father birching her bare ass and asking her to spread her legs so that her “cunny is swollen and reddened”?!???!!! WHYYYYYY?!?! CRINGE!!!!! It honestly made me CRINGE so hard. Thank god there was no more of that because I would for sure have stopped reading.
Other than the scene above, which I would describe as “incest adjacent”, the rest of the book was good.
After the Bridal Discipline series,i craved for more. More of Golden Angel’s Discipline. And i found i’d missed the first series, the Domestic Discipline series! Só stupid! But i’m going to make up for that now....
The first story introduces Eleanor, who is in search of a husband that’ll be easy to handle. One that would most certainly not punish her for doing exactly what she liked. One that would spoil her and lay at her feet. A man very unlike her father.
But the man she ends up with,is one her father chooses.....damn! A man she’s known since she was little. One that is most definitely not easy to handle. Her brother’s best friend,Edwin. A very handsome man. Now what is she to do? Playful and very enjoyable,i loved this first and look forward to what happens next!
I could not connect with the characters. Their situation felt convenient. The hero could have found anybody to spank. Yet, he fixated on the willful heroine (in need of birching) after watching her father take a switch to her, which happens in explicit detail. I didn't feel their chemistry.
I shall return to Annabel Joseph's Properly Spanked series, which kick-started my historical erotic romance fancy in the beginning.
It was weird that the dad is spanking his daughter with no underwear and her vagina is all out for the world. I'm sorry, but that's just weird. I'm not sure what the point of it was other than to get Edwin all hot and bothered while he was interloping on the scene.
Eleanor was completely and utterly annoying and immature. She ruined this book for me. There is no reason under the sun for her to continually act the way she does. Hell, she's getting 20, 30 spankings with a birch for petes sake. One would think this girl would learn, but nope, she still acts out like a freaking child would.
Not to mention, this doesn't have an ending for them. If that wasn't beyond frustrating, I'm not sure what else would be. I don't know that I have it in me to continue.
The story begins with a prologue in which Eleanor’s brother Hugh, brings his friends, Wesley and Edwin over to his house in order to watch his sister get birched by his father for misbehaving. One year later Edwin sees Eleanor at her come out ball and starts thinking of marrying her. Eleanor for her part wants a husband that will let have her own way and give her lots of gifts, certainly not Edwin as she figures that he is not that kind of man. The next morning Edwin has an interview with Elanor’s father and he is informed by Elanor’s father that he should marry Eleanor. The make up the marriage agreement with the assistance of some solicitors who were called to join them. Edwin leaves to procure the special license that he and Eleanor could marry the next day. Eleanor was not exactly happy to be told that she was to be married to Edwin, and so her father used a tawse on her bottom so that she might comply better. The next thing Eleanor knows, she is married and she is imagining that somehow she will be able to escape and get her marriage annulled, but that is rather unlikely and she just doesn’t realize it. That night after the wedding in bed with Eleanor, Edwin first licks her pussy and fingers her until she comes and then he finally fucks her until she orgasms again and then he follows soon afterward. The next day Eleanor goes off and shops for an entire new wardrobe and so when she gets back home she gets an over the knee spanking for misbehaving so. Later even though Edwin told Eleanor that he expected her to have dinner with him at 7 o’clock, she tells a servant that she is ill and that she wants a try in her room. However Edwin finds out about the tray request and goes to check on her, afer determining that she is not in fact sick, Edwin makes Eleanor get over his lap so that he might give her another bare bottomed spanking. Next Edwin gets Eleanor in position on her hands and knees and fucks her hard until they both come. Later Eleanor has a dinner party during which she wears a scandalous dress that is too low cut at the bodice and she also makes sure that the foods that Edwin dislikes most are served and none of his favourite foods, poor Edwin starves and Eleanor feels guilty. After the party Eleanor is made to bend over the bed and first get spanked by Edwin’s hand and then to get birched for her behaviour. After Edwin birches Eleanor, he takes her from behind while she is bent over until she comes and then he puts her on her back and fucks her some more until she comes again and he finishes. The next main event is Edwin takes Eleanor to Paris for a honeymoon and they have a fine time with a nice HEA ending, this is followed by a teaser for Dealing with Discipline where we will have Hugh, Eleanor’s brother and Hugh’s fiancé in their story.
BIRCHING HIS BRIDE is the first book in the DOMESTIC DISCIPLINE QUARTET and we are off to a fantastic start. In this story we have Lady Eleanor Petersham who is a bit of a handful and always getting into trouble her father normally disciplines her with taking a birch to her bum but he's decided it's time for her to be married and arranges a marriage between her and Lord Edwin Hyde, who is one of his son's best friends.
Lets just say Eleanor is not happy with this arrangement and does everything she can to make Edwin change his mind but when Edwin takes on the birching things start to get interesting.
This historical romance was one that I was able to lose myself in for a few hours and it was so much fun watching all the different antics Eleanor got up to. I cannot wait to see what Golden Angel has in store for this couple next.
I would recommend this book to those that enjoy STEAMY Historical Romances, Domestic Discipline Romances, or Siblings Best Friend Romances.
Golden Angel is one of my go-to, one-click authors. I'm not sure how I missed this series up to this point, but certainly am thrilled now to have started it. Eleanor has seen how "love" manages to get in the way of couples. In her experience, it allows the wife to be taken advantage of and never have a life of her own and Eleanor has no intentions of becoming one of "those" type of women. Set in the Victorian Age, this headstrong, opinionated woman and dominate man are just what was needed. The antics and consequences took me from shaking my head, smiling, and then catching my breath. I can hardly wait to start the next book in this series.
Oh my gods, this is super steamy and great to read. I loved every word of it. I love the sprinkling of period appropriate language. It's enough to season but not to overwhelm the rest of the story. Too many times, authors put as much of that kind of language as they can in a story, and it is always jarring to me and takes me out of the story. That isn't the case here.
The story is as good as the sex is, which is always nice. Eleanor and Edwin are engrossing characters. I want to know so much more about them. I can't wait until I read the rest of the story.
3.5 super annoyed stars. I would have given it 4 stars but I was soo ready to birch Eleanor my damn self..She was just so annoying and immature. .Edwin needed a real woman to unleash all of his wicked self on :) and we are also left with no real ending so I now have to read the next just to make sure this chick grows up..
I finished this book five minutes ago and I cannot remember their names. This just wasn’t good. The guy was creepy, the girl was a spoiled brat, the father was creepy too. There was no character development, nothing. It was bdsm disguised as domestic discipline. I love me some bdsm books, but be honest.
I want to kick her! I hate him and her father. But mostly I don't understand why she decides to put up with it. I also don't know what is going on with her parents. I feel like I am missing something that would make me more sympathetic to these people.
This was a twist on your usual historical romance. It was interesting to see how kink was handled back in the day. I enjoyed this one & will be looking for more of Angel’s stories.
Ok I'm actually bumping this up to 4 after further reflection. It was erotic.
~ 3.5. I liked Birching His Bride but I wish that the story was not split up. MC's HEA is in the next book so it leaves on a "cliffhanger" of the heroine wondering if the hero loves her.
Heroine doesn't want to marry hero because she wants a husband that she can control him. She's also pouting because she doesn't get her Season. She purposely plans a dinner with food hero doesn't like and wears a scandalous dress. Spanking interlude. They go off to Paris for their honeymoon and their relationship develops. Heroine feels horrified to discover she loves hero.
The next book's couple is teased in this book. Heroine's brother is infatuated with his bride who may not like him or even what he thinks she is.
I like Golden Angel's writing, but like with most erotica authors that writer shorter stories, I find the writing can fall flat. I don't want to generalize because filler can happen whether you have 200 or 350 pages, but I think that shorter romances requires you to get right to the heart of the matter of conflict, of character development. There's not too much room to meander into a crescendo.
I do think Golden Angel has done a good job in the past with other stories I've read like Philip's Bride with creating interesting dynamics between the MC but here it's just being teased out i.e. the heroine scared of becoming like her mother, in love but in an disempowered way. The heat factor was good too, but it was also just getting started.
I love a regency romance. I love when there's some tasteful smut included. You know what else I love? Consent, something this book is severely lacking. The prologue alone made me uncomfortable but then it just kept getting worse. Not to mention the characters are so unlikeable and the "plot" development is all over the place. Just no.
