Girl Long Gone by Danielle M. Haas is a romantic suspense novel. The story in this novel is told by changing the point of view between the characters involved to get all angles of the story including the suspect.

Connor Mitchel is a NYPD computer crimes detective that has had crime hit a little too close to home when his sister disappeared. Connor dug into his sister’s online activity and found she had been talking to a man on a dating site but all of Connor’s colleagues say there is no way the man is responsible since he has an alibi.

Connor then decides to begin searching for more clues and evidence on his own since the rest of the police force doesn’t believe him. Connor finds that his suspect has been in touch with another woman online and has set a meeting leading to him contacting Evelyn Price himself. Of course Evelyn is a little leery of Connor at first but then begins to suspect there may be some truth to his story.

As I was reading Girl Long Gone I really could find little things here and there with the story that didn’t quite add up hinting that it really could have used a better polishing up. However, if willing to overlook those few details the story isn’t a bad one and it had a rather fast pace to keep the pages turning quickly. Just also be warned that with that fast pace the romance was also one that moved along rapidly too. Overall for me though I found this one entertaining enough despite the flaws to rate 3 1/2 stars.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Detective Connor Mitchel has never felt so helpless. His sister, Monica, is missing. Told that he cannot be involved in the search for her, he defies his boss, and begins to investigate himself.

The only clue he has is that Monica recently signed on to a dating site and she's only spoken to one man. Being a computer-crimes expert, he is able to follow the man he thinks is responsible. His gut feeling is that this was not his first abduction and almost certainly will not be the last.

The man he feels is responsible is now targeting another woman ... Evelyn Price. She knew the man from high school and it's going to take a lot of convincing to keep her safe.

Are they the hunters.... or are they being set up by a cunning killer? The closer they get to him, the closer to danger Mitchel and Price get.

This is a well done suspenseful story nicely balanced with romance. The intimate moments are quite detailed and may not be to everyone's taste. It sizzles with spice. The characters of Mitchel and Price are skillfully drawn and likeable. The bad guy is revealed early in the story, but it doesn't take anything away from the tension which remains steady until the final explosive ending.

Many thanks to the author / Entangled Publishing - Amara / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I've given this a C+ at AAR, so that's 3.5 stars

Girl Long Gone, a standalone romantic suspense title by new-to-me author Danielle M. Haas, has some good things going on, and some that are less good.  The suspense plot has an interesting premise, in that we know the identity of the bad guy from the outset – so the book is more of a catch-me-if-you-can type of thing than a whodunit – but the romance is peripheral at best with no real sense of an emotional connection between the hero and heroine.  It’s as though the author is just ticking the necessary boxes to meet the criteria for a romantic suspense novel.

Detective Connor Mitchel is an NYPD detective specialising in computer crime.  Just a few days earlier, he had reported his sister Monica as a missing person and is, naturally, frantic with worry and frustrated because he can’t officially take part in the investigation and hunt to find her.  Connor and Monica are really close and have shared an apartment since the deaths of their parents years before, and he knows Monica is hyper-organised and rarely deviates from her established routine, so a red flag goes up when he discovers she set up a profile on a dating site and had exchanged messages there with a man called Gabriel Wilson.  Connor supplied the information to the police, who checked Wilson out and found nothing amiss, but Connor isn’t convinced.  He hacks into Wilson’s profile planning to speak to other women he contacted via the site – but when he sees he has arranged to meet a young woman named Evelyn Price within the next few minutes, he’s compelled to call her to warn her off.

Creating a dating profile isn’t something Evelyn would normally have considered – in fact, she doesn’t even have any social media accounts – but this seemed as good a way as any to get in contact with Gabriel Wilson, someone she’d known at high school and who is now a successful businessman.  Evelyn designs websites for a living and is meeting Gabriel to discuss the possibility of working for him.  Arrived at the time and place set for their meeting, she’s surprised to receive a phone call from a man she’s never met telling her he’s a detective and that Gabriel Wilson could be dangerous and she shouldn’t meet with him.  Evelyn thinks it’s some sort of crank call and hangs up, focusing instead on her pitch to Gabriel, but moments later, the caller – Connor Mitchel – shows up at the coffee shop and she notices something – hostility on the detective’s part, smugmess on Gabriel’s – pass between them before Gabriel excuses himself and leaves, although not before suggesting they meet for dinner soon.

Evelyn is naturally annoyed at this interruption to her plans, but is also almost struck dumb at her first sight of the gorgeous Connor. Still, she needs this job with Gabriel more than she needs a guy who turns her insides to mush, and isn’t inclined to believe his story. After all, she knows Gabriel (although she hasn’t seen him for years), but doesn’t know Connor Mitchel from Adam.

Connor feels a more than a spark of attraction for Evelyn, too, and is frustrated by her attitude even as he sort of understands it. He’s determined to keep her safe and away from Gabriel, and fortunately, Evelyn does come to see that Connor isn’t some random crazy and that Gabriel isn’t what he seems before it’s too late. After that, the story focuses on Connor and Evelyn’s search for Monica, Connor’s determination to keep Evelyn safe from Gabriel, and for evidence to prove Gabriel’s guilt – which is difficult, as he is one step ahead of them for most of the time.

The way Ms. Haas sets up her story is one of those good things about the book I mentioned before. Knowing who the bad guy is right from the start turns Girl Long Gone into a different sort of thriller, and I appreciated that. Gabriel is suave, devious and clever, and comes across as a genuinely dangerous enemy, always one step ahead and moving Connor and Evelyn around like pieces on a chess board. But the trouble is that the good guys never quite come across as being clever enough to catch him, and I felt, in the end, that they were only able to do so because he started making mistakes (uncharacteristically, given we’re supposed to believe he’s got away with abducting and killing women for over a decade).

He’s also the most well-drawn character in the book. Evelyn and Connor are rather bland by comparison, even though the author does give Evelyn a pretty horrific backstory to help explain why she needs to work despite inheriting a lot of money from her late parents (not surprising when we find out why) and some of her contradictions. But I’m really tired of inner monologues like – She was tired of being a victim and She wanted to be seen for the woman she was. She wanted to be strong. The sentiment may be admirable, but the execution is so clichéd

While Evelyn and Connor fall in lust at first sight, I couldn’t feel an emotional connection between them and there’s no romantic development; we’re told they’re attracted to each other, but no amount of telling me the heroine finds the hero bone-meltingly hot, or declarations such as “…dammit, you’re the most magnificent woman I’ve ever met in all my life” are going to convince me that two people are planning on spending their lives together just days after meeting one another if the author doesn’t create a sense of connection between them. (By contrast, I’m listening to a book at the moment in which the leads are insanely attracted at their first meeting, but the connection the author creates is so visceral that I have no trouble buying it.)

I was bothered by a couple of plot points, too. In the second half, Connor’s best friend, a homicide detective, suggests Connor might speak to a couple of the men uniformed officers are questioning – yet at the beginning it’s clear he’s not working the case. Connor hires a private investigator to help find Monica, yet is doing most of the investigating (it seems) himself. And then there was the constant repetition of “sonofabitch”, which seemed to be the swear word favoured by the good guys, because only Gabriel says “fuck”.

Girl Long Gone wasn’t a bad read by any means, and the final chapters provide an exciting finale to the suspense plot. But I read romantic suspense because I want to read about a couple falling for each other and forging palpable bonds against the odds; the romance needs to be integral to the plot and not feel like something that’s been tacked on or could easily have been left out. Danielle M. Haas can craft a decent plot, and I might try another of her books at some stage, but the romantic angle in this one didn’t work for me and I can’t quite recommend it.

‘Girl Long Gone’ had an interesting blurb and it was this premise that drew me to it: a detective’s sister who’s gone missing, a bad guy who’s been named and shamed from the outset and a frenzied meeting with a heroine who finds herself accidentally tangled up in this web.

But there was something strange about the opening scene, which set the tone for a read that I couldn’t entirely get settled into. I thought the way Connor Mitchel met Evelyn Price was…odd, which made for a somewhat convoluted establishing scene, more so when Danielle Haas threw in some tenuous connections between Evelyn and the villain that felt superfluous. In fact, Evelyn felt, from the start, like an accessory to a story whose main players were Connor and Gabriel, rather than an indispensable half of the 2 protagonists Haas probably set out to write. As a result, the romance did feel somewhat stilted, even if the murder mystery shaped out to be a game of cat and mouse between Connor and Gabriel.

It’s probably my own disconnect that prevented me from getting into this book—I definitely wished I liked it more, but still somehow ended up giving up halfway.

So we meet Connor who decides to find out why his sister disappeared, who took her, answers he needs answers and the police are not getting them so he will. He hooks up with Evelyn who had the unfortunate meeting with Gabriel, he is the bad guy and we know this from the get go. I was interested because we enjoy the back and forth, and how Gabriel is and gets away with stuff. What I really didn't care for was Evelyn and why she was a part of the story she seemed unnecessary for me.

I don’t totally know how I feel about this story.

The plot was great and I really liked that we actually know who the killer is right from the start.
But I really didn’t like the romance . I thought it was forced and they should have just stayed friends at least until later when the case was solved. It is like sometimes Connor forgets his sister Monica who is in the hands of the killer (Gabriel) just so he can protect Evelyn. And Evelyn becomes this woman who needs protection and saving in stead of being the resilient woman she always has been.

But the scenes with the investigation and Gabriel what has lead to what he has become are magnificent.
Gabriel is so scary. What he is doing and his methods and his motive are so scary and gory and I am definitely never using online dating again;)!
I loved Evelyn’s and Gabriel’s ending scenes in the cellar. She becomes such a badass of a woman and she fights with her whole being to stay alive. You go girl;).

Evelyn has had a horrible childhood so just be aware of pedophilia, child assault and other bad things her parents made her do for money. It was very had to read but essential to the plot line.

I got this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Girl Long Gone was a fast paced thriller that had me hooked from beginning to end. I read this book in less than two days, and found it hard to put down. This book tells the story of Connor, an NYPD detective, who is trying to find his kidnapped sister. This book is different than many of the thrillers and mysteries I’ve read, as we know who committed the crime from the beginning. Instead of being a “who dunnit” mystery, we are left figuring out the why and the how. Girl Long Gone follows the cat and mouse game between the NYPD and the likely serial killer, with some romance thrown in.

While I found this to be a super fast paced, engaging read, I did find some of the plot points to be unbelievable. For example, the same girl being kidnapped twice, as well as them not having better security to protect the next victim. Even with these flaws, I found the main characters to be likeable, and was rooting for them the whole time. As for the villain, he was absolutely creepy.

Overall, this was an quick read that lovers of mysteries and thrillers will enjoy. I’m looking forward to reading more from Danielle M. Haas in the future.

⁦♣️⁩ Book of suspense and mystery

קונ Connor's sister, a highly regarded and highly regarded detective girl, disappears
According to the investigation, she was annoyed at times with a guy named Gabriel
With whom she was to go on a date
I drifted away in pursuit of evil Gabriel to continue his sadistic abduction.

🖤 The basic story of that part of the story was good, but some details in the story were inconsistent and did not flow to me in reading

♣ ️ I also felt that this story was trying to become too many things at once. Is it a thriller or is it a romance? Because a good deal of Connor's infatuation is about his infatuation with a key witness in the investigation who knows Gabriel at the time of questions
Missing and being found by a crazy dangerous killer!

Gabriel, the villain who came out of the first episode, maintains too much mystery throughout the story. I wanted to get another explanation about him

🖤 In summary, I generally liked the thriller of the story but felt it needed better attention to make the details
more believable

⁦♣️⁩ I wanted to know more about how Gabriel chose his victims, how he captures them, what he did to them, etc. The ending as in any thriller is surprising

Fun reading❤️

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Danielle M. Haas for letting me read this in trade for an honest review.

I rather enjoyed most of this story. Connor's sister, Monica, gers abducted and while he is a detective, he isn't allowed to touch her case. Monica met Gabriel through a dating site and Connor's gut tells him that Gabriel has something to do with his sisters abduction but he can't prove a thing.

Then he finds out that Gabriel is about to meet another woman, Evelyn, and he tries everything to warn her off. But Evelyn doesn't trust Connor and ends up on Gabriel's radar anyway. Connor assumes responsibility for Evelyn's safety and they search for his sister together. Then they hook up.

The main plot of this book is fantastic! The romantic aspects felt a little forced and fluffed in my opinion, but they didn't detract from the storyline too terribly.

3.5 ⭐ from me.

This is the first book I’ve read by Danielle Haas. It won’t be the last. It’s the story of Connor Mitchel, a NYPD computer-crimes detective, whose sister disappears. He’s pretty sure he knows who has her, but he’s having a hard time finding proof. You actually find out who the kidnapper is at the very beginning of the book, so it’s a bit different than most crime thrillers. He meets up with Evelyn Price, who may be the kidnapper’s next victim. Connor has to untangle the web in hopes of saving his sister.

I enjoyed this book, though the romance between Connor and Evelyn seemed a bit fast.

Thanks to NetGalley for the book. I voluntarily read and am reviewing the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Girl Long Gone by Danielle M. Haas was everything I like in a book - fast-paced, a little bit flirty and fully thrilling ❤️

Evil, attractive Gabriel likes to abduct, mutilate and murder women, but his latest prey? He messed with the wrong family...

Monica is missing and her hot-cop brother Connor is doing everything he can to find her and bring her safely home. In his off-duty investigation he stumbles across the beautiful Evelyn who unknowingly has ties to Gabriel.

This was a relatively quick and easy read for me, likeable (and love to hate) characters, thrilling and a little bit of loving to round it out. I rate this book FOUR STARS!

This story is different from a lot of other thrillers I’ve read because you know who the “bad guy” is right from the start. It’s interesting to see how the characters develop and how other minor characters are involved in the overall plot. The beginning is very slow. This is probably because you are aware of the villain right from the start. The story becomes more suspenseful as it goes on, but is very predictable. I thought the relationship in this story was not very realistic at all.

The only reason this story isn't a 5 star is because there are moments where it feels the author lost track or forgot something which had things not connecting more making since. When the story does connect it has the right amount of fear, excitement and nail biting moments to have readers over looking the simplest mistakes.

Girl Long Gone is a decent of romance and suspense. Readers can enjoy on a long summer day.

Girl Long Gone by Danielle M. Haas a five-star read that wont ever leave you. I enjoyed this one overall, I did enjoy the romance aspect of this thriller, but I did wonder how realistic this would be, would you really be starting a relationship with your sister missing, especially with someone who was likely the next victim? That being said, once I realised that love/lust hots us all differently and usually at the worst possible time, this became a great thriller and even though it was backwards as we know who the baddie is from the start, but even so it kept me hooked, there was something about the cat and mousiness of it all, that just kept it so easy to be engaged with, the writing is very well done and I will definitely be looking out for more from this author.

A romantic suspense, we already know who the kidnapper is straight away.
Evelyn has been though her own demons but she’s still strong. I loved reading her grow as a person and her relationship with Connor. He’s so understanding and the perfect gentlemen.
The kidnapper’s POV was very intriguing.

This book starts off by just throwing you into the story line. Within the first few pages we meet detective Connor Mitchell, learn his sister has been missing and are introduced to both the person he thinks did it, and the person he thinks they are after next. It was a lot to go on with very little backstory

This book was confusing. Was it a thriller about a missing woman, or was it a love story about two people meeting in strange circumstances. I think that each story on their own would of been a good story line, but together, they somehow both got lost of me. I couldn’t understand the love connection because Connor would focus on Evelyn and basically forget about his ,issuing sister. And when we were focused on the missing sister the love story felt very forced. I really wish this was put into to separate books instead of trying to make it work as one.

Police Officer Connor Mitchell is beside himself his sister is missing, and he has no idea where she is. The police have no leads and the only lead he has is tenuous at best. The only change in her life is the dating service she signed up for and the one person she chatted with on the site. Connor is following leads and working with a PI to find his sister, but he’s afraid that he won’t find her in time to save her. She’s all the family he has left and can’t lose her too.

Evelyn is looking for a job to keep the nice apartment that she lives in with her best friend, Lacy and her daughter. She needs a job that she can do from home because she doesn’t do well in crowds or in public at all really. Her childhood taught her that monsters were real and that they could be anyone, they didn’t necessarily look like monsters. When she has the opportunity to do website work for a high school classmate, she meets with him but she’s jumpy the whole time, and when she receives a phone call from a police officer asking her about her meeting with Gabriel, she is wary of the officer and his questions.

This was an action-packed book with suspense, danger, and a twisted minded psychopath. There are no leads or evidence of where Monica Mitchell has disappeared to, but her brother is determined to find her and will stop at nothing to get her back. The characters in this story were well written and entertaining to read. I really enjoyed the story but thought that there could have been more to the ending of the story. There should have been some follow through with the ending. With that being said, I still give the book a 4-star review because it is well written and full of action and suspense with a twist, and suggest it to readers who enjoy psychological thrillers, police procedural, or characters that show their strength even after being beaten down or destroyed most of their lives. Their real strength comes out when they find the will and the one person that will be beside them no matter what. There are characters in this story that are twisted but they will be discovered and justice will be served.

This book is much darker than what I usually like to read, but I loved the thrill. The story flowed beautifully from the very start. For me, it was a page-turner.
Connor Mitchel is a computer-crime detective. When his sister goes missing after talking to a stranger online, he decides to take matters into his own hands. It's not that he doesn't truth the police, rather he can't stand on the sidelines while his sister suffers. He even has a suspect in mind. Unfortunately, the guy is very hard to pin down. In an attempt to find clues, Connor decides to dig deeper and that's how he ends up meeting Evelyn. Another woman who will soon need his help if she didn't stay away from Gabrielle.
At first, Evelyn thought that Connor is lying. In all fairness, she needs the job Gabrielle has offered and she doesn't want to believe a complete stranger. But soon it becomes evident that Gabrielle isn't who he says he is. The guy might be seriously messed up. Now, she has no choice but to trust the good detective. He seems sincere enough and if she can help him track down his missing sister then nothing else matter.
Connor and Evelyn are spending a lot of time together. Connor doesn't want to let her out of his sight, fearing that she is in real danger. However, neither of them factored in the chemistry between them. This might become more than what it is, and they might end up falling for each other.
All in all, this is a very good story. I think that the author has done a great job of capturing the feelings of a sick man who likes to feed on other people's fears. And the two main characters are also very well-developed. I quite enjoyed reading it and would recommend to anyone who isn't scared to explore darker themes. Although I should also mention that this isn't explicit when it comes to abuse and the said darker themes. Still, implications are very clear and it did give me goosebumps.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

It took me almost a month to read this book. It just didn't grab me as I had expected. It was well written, but I'm the type of person that can't get past something when it bugs me.

One thing I didn't like was the fact that Connor as a computer cop needed so much help to find background info on someone when it took an unskilled person like an hour to find just by using a search engine.

Another thing was the way the other cops ect were happily letting Connor go and talk to people involved in the case and go on searches of houses ect. When it was his sister the case was about. I understand that he would do absolutely everything to get his sister back, but by my understanding of how police investigations work, he wouldn't be able to be involved in his own sisters case due to it being personal. As soon as he interviewed the dad that would be it. Hand in badge and gun, come back when it's all over.

Bill (or Ben, I can't remember) is a really rubbish PI as soon as he was asked to dig into the lives of Gabriel and Evelyn he would have the story of her background especially since it was such a big thing.

Evelyn, well, I quite liked her and I felt for her when her past came out, but. I find it difficult to believe she would trust Connor so quickly. Given her past with the police, trusting and getting into bed with a cop within less than a week of knowing him just doesn't hit 'this would happen' to me. Maybe I'm wrong, everyone deals with emotional trauma in different ways, but it's just what I felt.

I liked Gabriel. Not that I liked the things he was doing, but I felt his character was solid and believable, everything he did I could picture him doing, he was a proper scumbag that was easy to hate.

I'm sorry I didn't love this book as it really was well written. I hope others enjoy it.

🍒Girl Long Gone🍒

The story revolves around Monica who gets kidnapped by the man who she thinks is perfect for her. NYPD Computer-crimes detective Connor Mitchel’s sister Monica is missing. As he combs through his sister’s life, he realizes Monica might not have been this killer’s first target—or his last. In a twisted game of cat and mouse, Connor thinks he’s finally found the man responsible for his sister’s disappearance. Unfortunately, he’ll first need to convince the shy, distrustful Evelyn Price she could be the next victim tangled in the murderer’s web if she doesn’t agree to help him catch the killer. But just as Connor and Evelyn close in on their quarry, the killer has one last trick up his sleeve that could trap them all…
.
.
🍒This is going to be definitely one of my favorite thrillers ever because it's very different and unique from the thrillers we usually read, I loved how the author completely changed the basic framework of a thriller and she presented it her way, so it's very new, rare and unique. Here we know the criminal but what we don't know is, how to get to him? And what's the reason behind all the kidnaps. It was so fast paced and thrilling from the very beginning. Conor is a character to fall for, he is so well built, he is smart and amazing. The relationship he forms with the target of the kidnapper i.e., Evelyn who again is a very beautiful.
.
.
I loved how the author didn't change or lose the track and focused the romantic aspect of the book but rather focused on thrilling aspect of the story. The book is so wisely and precisely which makes it much more interesting. I was glued to the story from the very beginning. I can't wait to read more books by her. The book has the potential to be converted into a movie or web series, I am excited.
.
I will highly recommend it to everyone especially who enjoy crime thrillers.

Girl Long Gone is the first book I’ve ever read by this author. But I’m a romantic suspense junkie so I’m always up for reading those type of books by new-to-me authors. With that said, let’s jump right in!

What I liked about the book: The story flowed well, the writing was good, and the action was fast-paced. All great elements to a really good romantic suspense book.

What I didn’t like about the book: While there was some mystery to the story, I honestly think the mystery could have been a little better. Now, I understand there are time constraints and sometimes word count constraints authors have to work with, so giving this author the benefit of the doubt here that maybe something like that played into how the story was laid out. While there was some mystery surrounding who helped the villain, I think the story could have been explosive if the author had made us guess a bit more regarding who the villain actually was. So in that aspect, I was a little disappointed.

NICUnurse’s Rating: I’ve stated a few times in the last few months’ reviews that this pandemic and shelter-in-place has had me in a weird headspace, so I realize that could also be shaping how I view this book. All in all, Girl Long Gone was an entertaining read. It might not have been couldn’t put it down entertaining, but it wasn’t a waste of my time by any stretch of the imagination. I’d love to see the author stretch her legs a bit and show us a book with even more twists and turns to it to keep us readers guessing a bit more than this one did. I see the potential to do that even in this story, so I hope she’ll do that in her next romantic suspense book. I’ll be looking for it! And I’m probably going to run to Amazon and download a couple more of her books. She has me intrigued and I guess that’s the goal, right?

I give Girl Long Gone by Danielle M. Haas 4 out of 5 stars!

It's been some time since I got to a murder-thriller - so here it is! Let me start of with lots of thanks to Danielle M. Haas for sending us a copy of her latest release!
"Girl Long Gone" kept me on my toes from the beginning, all the way to the end, without a drop in the suspense levels. There was nothing boring in it for me and I enjoyed each and every chapter. One thing I really appreciated about this romantic-suspense thriller was how direct and straight-to-the-point it was with the action and detective "scenes"

Detective Connor Michel comes to a point where he NEEDS to get himself involved in the case to find his missing sister, Monica - and everything goes down like a whirlpool. He has to jeopardize another woman's life along this journey, someone who seemed to have dated the suspected murderer. Buh, buh, but! The guy he constantly feels iffy about always proves to be a clean slate and isn't suspected by the other officials - just a wealthy, well-to-do, well mannered guy.
Detective Connor cant help but doubt him because he's the last person his sister had a chat with online. This is what he feels about their relationship - all his sister was looking for was true love and this guy was out hunting for pretty preys.

Will he be able to save her on time? Could the abduction be a one man's work or is Connor about to face a deep-rooted gang? I have to say, the climax and the reveal of the true motive for murder was nothing of what I expected - and I don't think you will either, so be ready for some worthwhile THRILLS DOWN YOUR SPINE! It's not about who committed the murder itself - it's really about the whys and hows around it.

Connor and Evelyn have this serene chemistry that explodes in fireworks when she finally gives up to the inevitable: they fell in love with each other.

It’s so contrasting that the romance in this book went slow and without melodramatic scenes (the suspense in the book is enough) if we compare it with the fast pace of the events in the story, and its reading. The fact that the story’s chronological time is only one week! gives the book another light.

The secondary characters do their job well and bring the bigger picture a different shade of the center of the story, which is Gabriel and his past and dark soul. Also, they gave a deeper perspective of what’s happening with the story and Gabriel as one of the main characters.

Something I have to mention is that, although Ms. Haas did a great job with the details and not letting loose ends in the book, it has a few flaws in the story. Why didn’t Evelyn had a more strong security after Gabriel’s first intention of kidnapping her? Why the police didn’t get her and her friend in the witness protection program, if they were in danger (especially Evelyn)? Those details make the story hard to believe sometimes. That said, the end is a typical HEA, nice and well deserved for Evelyn and Connor.

This is my first book from Danielle M. Haas, and I’m sure this won’t be the last. The author has enough potential in the Thriller and Suspense genre that will lead her to the big leagues. A very fast reading that keeps you on edge is the icing on the cake. And what a fantastic move by letting the reader know who's the criminal since page one... And reading his POV!!

I recommend this book to people who’s not familiar with this genre. It will be a gratifying reading.

Nail-biting race to stop a killer but execution had some issues😒

⏳Yes, I was caught up in the race to stop the evil Gabriel from continuing his sadistic kidnapping spree. The basic outline of that part of the plot was good, but I could not get past a string of inconsistent and/or unrealistic details that got me questioning the story and impeding its flow.

I also felt this story tried to become too many things at once. Is it a thriller or is it a romance? I did not really care for the Insta-attraction romance and found it totally wrong when they got so caught up in each other with the Connor's sister still missing and in the hands of a crazy dangerous killer!

Connor, the male lead, also gets way too much freedom to roam around and do his own investigating. And his attitude, knowledge and actions definitely don't jive with his position as a detective on the Computer Crimes Squad. After his initial check of his sister's online history, he's crashing about town while he leaves others, civilians at that, doing online research?!

Gabriel, the villain who was outed from chapter one, maintains too much mystery all the way through the story's end. I wanted way more explanation for the what, whys and how many times attached to his macabre crimes.

In sum, I liked the overall thriller aspect of the story but felt it needed better attention to making the details believable and much more focus on Gabriel's methods, i.e. how he chose his victims, how he entrapped them, what he did with them, etc.

Thanks to Entangled and NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review and the opinions expressed are my own.

Get ready for the ultimate level of suspense and mystery! Connor’s sister has been kidnapped, and he is extremely frustrated because although he’s a detective, he’s been taken off the case. Determined to find out who took his sister and get her back safely, he works his own angle ends up meeting Evelyn, who he believes is the killer’s next target. Evelyn has decided to attempt to date thanks to her friends nagging, and decides, as a way to ease into it would be to go on a date with someone she went to high school with. She doesn’t know him well but he’s familiar because of their knowing of each other in the past. But once Connor and Evelyn meet, things start to progress and the killer begins to toy with them as he knows they are both on to him. In the end, I didn’t see any of what happened coming, and found myself thoroughly involved in helping Connor put the clues together. In combination with the suspense and mystery, we also found Connor and Evelyn explore the chemistry they realize they have early on, and we see Evelyn work through her past trauma. This book was interesting because we find out who the murder is in the beginning and throughout the storyline we see the detective work to put things together and piece together the clues to find out who it is. While I enjoyed that, it also became somewhat frustrating when Connor had trouble connecting the dots. Overall, I definitely enjoyed this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is a solid thriller that is not really a who run it, but more of a “whydunit” and “where is the girl?” It works. The book is part cat and mouse game between a handsome NYPD detective and a probable serial killer, and part romance between the cop (who is also the brother of the missing girl) and an intended victim. Both the protagonist, Evelyn, and the hot cop are likable and interesting, and Gabriel, who we are told from the start is the target, is definitely creepy. I also really appreciated the way the author made Evelyn a woman with certain terrible things in her past, and yet she was in no way portrayed to be any less attractive, sexy or capable. Big ups to the author for creating a complicated and sympathetic character we can root for, and a great man who appreciates her.

Having said that, I gave it four stars instead of five because there was a little too much sex and romance for my tastes in a thriller, but if you like that you’ll like this because it’s well-written and the characters are great. There is plenty of action and suspense too. The heroine is plenty capable and doesn’t necessarily need rescuing from the hot cop, but you will still love to see their teamwork.

Thanks to NetGalley, Danielle Haas and the publisher for this well-written suspense read which you’ll especially like if you like some romance in the mix.

When I read the book description of ‘Girl Long Gone’ on Netgalley a little while ago, I found myself intrigued by this read. So I requested a review copy, and was super excited to start reading as soon as possible.

In ‘Girl Long Gone’ we meet Connor, a NYPD detective who is desperately searching for his missing sister. In his search he meets Evelyn. There is an instant chemistry between these too and soon they decide to work together on the search of Connor sister Monica.

This review is a little hard to write because I’m not really sure what I think. There were several things I didn’t really like. Firstly, I found time going by way to fast. One moment Connor and Evelyn meet, the next they are together. Which I didn’t get at all. Evelyn was supposedly comprehensive of all guys, but she meets a big NYPD guy and bam she wants him. I just didn’t get that part at all. We are supposed to believe she is someone who doesn’t trust easy, but she trusts him right away?

The suspense part also wasn’t really for me. It just seemed like we missed little bits and pieces of the story. One thing would happen, and the next we were following another kidnapping. It felt just really rushed to me. It left me reading several parts multiple times. And in the end I still had a lot of questions left.

But I did want to finish reading this book, because I was curious how things would end up. And we read this book through the ‘bad guys’ eyes too. And that was definitely interesting.

Overall I just didn’t really connect with this story to much. There was definitely potential, but I think some parts should have been more developed.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and the IndieSage team for sending me an ARC of Girl Long Gone in return for an honest review. I was immediately drawn to this novel after reading the blurb, attracted to the crime and suspense!

In Girl Long Gone, Connor Mitchel's sister has gone missing and as a computer-crimes detective, he can't just sit by and wait for her to be found. Conor begins to dive into his sister's life, discovering that she has entered the world of online dating. Unfortunately, this could have lead to her kidnapping and now Conor must convince the killer's potential victim, Evelyn, to steer clear of the man he thinks is responsible for the disappearance of his sister, Monica.

From the beginning, this was a fast-paced read, with Haas throwing us right into the thick of it! The base story centered around Monica's disappearance was the strong point of the story, with a chilling character behind it all. I wasn't a huge fan of the insta-love that is weaved in the plot, although I do think Evelyn's character was necessary to support to the story's development. She could have played a large role without the romance. Overall, this definitely kept me entertained and I look forward to reading more of Haas' work!

Girl Long Gone by Danielle M. Haas is a fast-paced suspense novel with a hint of romance. The main story is about detective Connor, whose sister is missing. He dedicates everything to finding her and everything points to a rich snob Gabriel. The problem is, nobody believes him, so his search is mainly on his own.
The search and the game of cat and mice is hastily put into the whole plot. There is a hint of mind games that I like in those kinds of stories. A few little things in the plot are a bit dubious but if you accept them, the story is ok. Everything is developing rapidly, even romance, and the characters do not have time to flourish into their full potential. That is why I missed getting to know them more. We get some of their past and facts, but nothing more.
I liked the premise and the story, but it could have a bit more suspense and complication for my taste. I had a feeling everything went predictably smoothly. Overall, this is an ok read and it was absorbing enough to keep reading to the end.
I would recommend it to readers who like a bit of crime, suspense, and some romance with HEA.

My first book by this author and it won’t be my last. When NYPD Connor Mitchel’s sister Monica disappears he can’t think straight he needs to find her. Sure he’s too close to the case it’s his sister after all. The only lead he has is the dating app his sister was on. While searching on the app he comes across a women that’s supposed to meet the same guy they think might be involved. They just can’t pin anything on him. So he calls the woman. Ms. Price isn’t receptive to what Connor is telling her. He just needs to somehow warn her. The only way is find out where she’s going to be. She’s familiar with the guy as they went to high school together. Evelyn doesn’t know what to make of Detective Connor Mitchel. She’s upset for him about his sister, but when he tells her some things about his sister’s disappearance along with a very specific thing. She doesn’t know what to make of it. He’s already told her it’s just a gut feeling he has. Evelyn meets the man again for dinner to discuss business. But when he steps away from the table she sees something that catches her eye, which makes her believe Detective Connor Mitchel. She has to tell him.

So much more to come...

Highly recommend.
