Sorry to say this was awful. On special for 99 cents for all four on kindle so I bought it thinking it was a post apocalyptic series. Not quite sure what it’s supposed to be. Humans from earth on another planet but not sure how or why since that was quickly skipped over. Many generations later they are starving in a desert and fighting a giant worm that comes up from underground when it hears noise and eats people. The people themselves have devolved into basic cave man style. Communication amongst them is painfully simple and forced in these books. Weapons are sharpened sticks. Water seems available and they have some plants growing (not sure how these have lasted for generations)but are eating desert rats and drinking from tree roots. At any rate after all this time it seems like they should be far smarter than they are. Reads like a cheesy horror flick.
Loving the variety in this authors repertoire- apocalyptic/post apocalyptic genres but so many different methods! This series was excellent and I di hope he writes some more. Only slight niggle is in incorrect use of she/her, he/his/him, etc - generally how you say it is how you write it.......eg: ‘a light shone on her and Kai’s faces ‘ , not a light shone on she and Kai’s faces’. You wouldn’t say ‘ a light shone on she face..........
I enjoyed this series a lot. It's well written with good strong characters, some you love and some you don't. It's a story about life and the struggles to live in a harsh environment. The book got very tense towards the end, I felt myself cheering them on. I hope there's a follow-up story, I would like to know what kind of future they are heading in to.
This was an enjoyable series with good characters and an atmospheric setting. There were heroes and villains battling each other and a harsh environment...and a monster.
Themes such as power, loyalty and honour alongside lies, distrust and murder, made this a good read. There were some typos and grammatical errors but it was still fast-paced and entertaining.
Wonderful story line throughout the 4 books in this box set. I was quite taken by the way the author kept intertwining the lives of Neena, her 2 brothers and Kai - this is what kept my interest up. Just when you think you have things figured out, the author goes in a completely different direction - loved the story.
A great clash between good, evil, subsistence, and sand. Lots of sand. There’s also gender issues, and familial ones. In all a good read with a terrific ending! I sure wouldn’t want to live there. Too much sand!
I started reading and was hooked by Neena. So many great characters both good, bad and sheepish. Great world building on a desert planet a bit like Dune but with medieval abilities.
Retribution, atonement, and justice, this series has it all. Humans we'll be humans, no matter where they are, the off world colonists in the Sandstorm saga were not the exception with their mistrust and easily mislead by selfish leaders.
A truly unforgettable story! The plot was so well-crafted, with twists and turns that kept me guessing. The characters were relatable and the dialogue was sharp. I loved every moment of it and was sad to see it end. One of the best things I’ve read in a long time.
The story was quite good though it immediately put me in mind of Dune. Found it a little wordy and did a fair bit of skip reading. Overall not a bad read.
This book reminded me of dune but totally different. Covers a lot of heart ache, death and rebuilding. Good read and story line. Didn’t want it to end. Big D
