Would have enjoyed this book if the author hadn't plagiarized another writer.
When we first meet Sam Wick in the third installment (Wicked Storm), he enters a club in Iraq and shortly after a fight ensues. Much of the dialogue in this scene and some of the fighting first appeared in The Equalizer, a movie starring Denzel Washington, which was released in 2014 and was written by Richard Lindheim.
The original scene in the movie took place in a Russian mob bar and the dialogue is virtually the same as what Mr. Austin wrote in Chapter 29. Here are the exact lines,
"This guy gonna give me $9000 (it was $1000 in the book) for a single piece of pu**y. Must be Ferrari p***y.
"You f***ing Americans (in the movie it was morons) think you can come into my place of business and just buy whatever you want. You f***ing insult me.
"I'm f***ing with you man. You got very big balls coming here. I like that.
"Now go home and jerk off $9800 times (in the book it was 1000 times)."
"Your heart is beating three times the normal rate because you're losing so much blood. In about 30 seconds your body is gonna shut down and you're gonna suffocate."
Although it is only a few lines in an entire book, as an author of two business books, I find it VERY disappointing that Mr. Austin passed off someone else's writing as his own.
Sam Wick appears to combine the logical rationality of Mr. Spock with fighting prowess and weapons skills of any and every character who has held a gun. What that.means is that he's essentially two dimensional, unchanging from.volume to.volume, and the interests of the plot and action sequences are the saving grace.
In many respects that.makes him.more of a comic book hero than a truly vivid character. I came away from this 3 volume set wondering if I had already obtained over volumes from either the author of one of the myriad kindle sources offering freebies and lose cost loss leaders to entice readership. As soon as old one with this I'll search my library and probably remove them.
I don't fault the action sequences - extremely detailed - and most of the plotting. But the constant dispatching of all opponents in order to complete the mission was, after a while, numbing. one of two moments per book where things might go awry, but Wick always triumphs. Nah. Not my cup of tea.
If you want an easy read, cerebrally undemanding book series then look no further than this trilogy. The hero seems to be a cross between Rambo and Superman, a deadly, morally upright ex-soldier. He deals with evil in a straightforward, terminal fashion preventing bad people from the being a blot on society – a strategy which many of us may secretly agree with! In addition to enjoying the light reading, a facet of his book which I appreciated was the reference to his free novellas which go into detail about earlier incidents in the character's lives. I won't give the stories details away but they revolve around good versus evil. You'll be able to enjoy the storyline more if I say less.
Robert Ludlum and Eric van Lustbader have little to fear from these novels though Mr Austin does fill a popular niche in the literary market.
I've read Chase Austin's books, but not many. I really like his style and story-telling ability. He can take an impossible scenario, tweak it a bit and blow your mind with where it takes you! These books are an amazing flow of different stories that connect on a continuous line that shows us just who is Sam Wick and what he's prepared for. How is he significant to the health and well-being of his fellow country-men and -women? It's so good that these books came as a set because after the first volume I wanted, no, needed to keep reading to see just what Sam was prepared to do. Get this book series! You'll love them!
This sam Wicks boxset is everything you would imagine of a covert secret agent who no one knows actually exists Sam is a US government operator who is called for the most difficult and dangerous people extractions in the most dangerous of situations. Each book is fast moving, with full on action and danger, with no guarantee of success or even survival. highly Recommended
I have seen the films so wasn't sure if the books would be as exciting. Happily, I enjoyed them very much. The main character remains more mysterious than in the films. Though they do give you an insight to why he is as singular in character. They are short stories so carry you through the scenarios quickly, but I enjoyed the longer story at the end and look forward to a follow up book.
Books 1-3 were fun to read and had a few errors throughout. The overall was a good start to the series. The plot and characters developed well and was a bit repetitive and predictable throughout each book. Some of the information was not needed and made the book(s) drag a bit, but I enjoyed the overall.
The three books yield different angles of who Sam is. The series really doesn’t have to be read in order, each stands alone. You see Sam as a serious leader, a man who has doubts in himself, and a no bs killer. ENJOY!
Somewhat in the vein of the Noah Wolf series by David Archer. Not bad reading at all. I'm always looking for new authors and had intended going elsewhere when this book set popped up on Kindle Unlimited. Couldn't resist, and glad I went with it.
Love this action hero…dark hair… very blue eyes…good to go! Grateful Chase Austin doesn’t waste time with filler…describing the carpet/wallpaper, favorite wines, badass fashion, worst of all…childhood minutia! Thanks…CA! A good read!
All the reviews sum up this reading experience as we enter the world of Sam Wick one more time: exciting, news based, well, I've run out of any new adjectives already. These thrillers are among the best.
Too many conspiracies but l guessed who the informer was early on. But still surprised that the head honcho was assassinated. And now the Enterprise is dead in the water until the next ambitious dog. Not Romeo!
Whilst I liked the main character and I found the premise of the stories and their settings interesting, the whole reading experience was ruined for me by far too many typos, grammatical errors and errors in general.
An easy read (three book set). Some parts a little stretched but pays homage to special forces military personnel. Definitely worth a read, if you like fast passed violence.
Fast moving, multi plot international content. Interesting read that is impossible to put down until it is finished. Unreal hero who is still hard not to follow.
This main character is slightly far-fetched, but amusing reading. He's almost too tough to be imaginable, but manages.. I'll buy more of them as they are fairly light reading.
Action, adventure and exciting mystery. Like the series. Well developed plot and twists that engage the reader and help one feel that it’s ending is a sad thing.
