Join Cami and Wyatt in the third book of the Cami Kangaroo and Wyatt Too series, as they try to break this bad habit and find their way back to the real world.
"Cami and Wyatt Have Too Much Screen Time" is a book about two little kangaroos who just received new tablets so they are engrossed in using the tablets and ignoring the life around them. The boy kangaroo, Wyatt, wants to keep playing his game and beat the levels of the game. When his friend comes into the room to ask Wyatt to go out and play, Wyatt doesn't even look up from his tablet. Cami is in her room watching a show. When her mommy tells her the ice cream truck is out front, she keeps watching her show until the next show starts and she wants to keep watching. Cami and Wyatt let the day go by, ignoring requests to go fishing and bake cookies. When it's time for dinner, the power goes out. At first the two youngsters are upset, but their daddy gets out the flashlight and the family spends time together and have fun together. Then Mommy decides to confront the two children about how much screen time they had that day and how much fun they missed. They come up with other ideas to reduce screen time. At the end, Mommy is found hiding in the closet, checking her phone. While the other parts of the book were educational for kids to reduce their screen time, it is not a good idea to teach kids to hide their screen time from others. That can only lead to problems. We do not allow our kids to use any electronic devices in their rooms, so that could be another aspect about this book that isn't so good for kids to want to use their devices unsupervised. Young kids should always be within an adult's eye to supervise what they are on with their devices. My girls also were not drawn to the cover at all. They thought it looked boring and not fun to read at all. I would say this book is more for parents to read to their young children to reduce screen time before it becomes a problem. It might be a good book to have kids read before they get electronic devices, not after they are already addicted to them.
This book was very good. It explores good qualities such as spending time with family and friends, and not becoming addicted to a screen. It points out to children the negative side of spending so much time on screens; how this can make them feel bad physically, but also mentally, and they could miss out on things they would have enjoyed. This is great for the age range of grade school children, because nowadays kids are spending increasing amounts of time on screens, and this is not good for them. Such a book points this out and shows kids why, and how they can have a much better time in life than spending it all on a screen. I think this is very important, as the health impacts that kids suffer from spending so much time on a screen is bad. Their mental health suffers the most, and missing out on a lot of great opportunities will only further that. This book does a great job of pointing that out and explaining it to children in a way that is appropriate to their age range.
I’m obsessed with this series from Stacy C. Bauer and Rebecca Sinclair.
The latest in the series follows Cami and Wyatt Kangaroo as they spend WAY too much time on their tablets. They miss out on playtime with their friends, fishing with Daddy, and baking with Mommy. In fact, they spend so much time on their tablets that their eyes are hurting and they feel super tired.
But then, there’s a power outage! The Kangaroo family gets creative, and they play hide-and-seek, make shadow puppets, and enjoy a candlelit board game. But the best part of this book isn’t the message itself; it’s what comes after the ending.
There are two pages full of screen-free playtime ideas from parents AND kids. What a unique idea! I love this series and think your kiddos will too. The illustrations are vivid and adorable, and the story is very timely.
I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book for review. “Cami & Wyatt Have Too Much Screentime” is a relatable tale about two kids who enjoy their tablets a bit too much. This children’s book teaches the importance of using moderation when it comes to screentime in easy to understand concepts for younger ones. Both Cami and Wyatt see the consequences of their actions and their parents help bring them out of the digital world and back into the real world. Kids will enjoy the cute kangaroo illustrations and parents will be able to use this as a conversation starter about limited use of tablets and phones.
Very relatable book for todays kids and parents. A great way to start a conversation with your kids if they are spending too much time with tablets and phones. Technology is great, but so are a lot of other activities in life. What are you missing out on, if you spend all day watching a screen? The story has relatable family situations, plus some good humor. The font is very soft and easy on the eyes. The illustrations are bright, colorful and playful. Good as a read along or even as a teaching tool.
This book had a great message about using electronics in moderation, especially when you start missing out on the fun things in life! I loved how it touched on how even parents use their phones, etc. too much and need to take a little break now and then. The message was clear but gently presented, it wasn’t accusatory in the way so many other books like this are. Cami and Wyatt books are quickly becoming one of our family favorite series. Highly recommend!
Oh what a great book :) I think there will be so many families that can relate to this. It’s a reminder for all of us that there are so many fun things to do when you limit your screen time... they even have tonnes of ideas at the back of the book. Well written and gorgeous illustrations, will definitely check our all the other books in this series
This book was great. It truly highlighted the ‘trap’ of electronic devices and portrayed the digital household quite well. My only gripe with this book is the last page, where mum is found hiding in the pantry using her mobile phone. It really took away from the lesson the story was teaching by showing an adult not only taking part in the exact action in which the children were supposed to be learning to curb, but by showing her ‘hiding’ away whilst doing it. Not a very good way to end such a book in my opinion.
The author did a great job in showing children things that they can miss out on if they are on their phones all the time! She also at the end does a great job with giving examples of fun things to do when you aren’t on your screen from a parents perspective and children viewpoint! The illustrations were also so adorable! I loon forward to reading this to my nieces and nephews :)
We are all guilty of too much screen time (says the girl reading books on a screen). We need to try and switch off once in a while and do other things. Parents included! A really nice book highlighting it.
Love this story for my kids. Hits the message home that active playing is so much more fun than hours online. Good for mind and body. Great story and love the colorful illustrations. Another great picture book Stacey Bauer!!
What an adorable way to remind us all what we miss out on when there is too much screen time! We’ve love all of Cami and Wyatt’s Adventures and the lessons they teach. Great message and vibrant illustrations!
I think this book is a must to have in today’s world. Our kids are filled with a lot of screen time, I love how it teaches a lesson on all the fun activities kids miss out on. I definitely recommend this book!! I also love the illustrations, they are adorable! 🤗
I think we’ve all had a little too much screen time while in quarantine! This is a great story of how children miss out on the simple of things of life when they are consuming too much screen time. Great story!
This book shows what is the price child will have to pay in case if they spend too much time with gadgets. An eye opener for my kid post which we had a .long discussion about misusing the gadgets. Loved it
Cami and Wyatt have too much screen time is a cute story about two kangaroos that get wrapped up in their screens and forget about going on fun adventures.
Wow, my boys and I really enjoyed reading this book. So well written with a very much needed lesson for kids nowadays. Stacy, we love your books. Your writing style is simple and sweet. Thanks for this.
