I have read this book time and time again since its release in 1994. I read it first as a teenager and i am still captivated by his willingness to survive, even now.

It is simple and a short to read book but also very descriptive regarding David's childhood daily ordeals and directly thereafter. It transports you into his world through his very own eyes.

A child, very much beyond his years; denied all the basic human rights any child takes for granted. Shows in macro, his creativity and strength of character in the hell-ish environment he was thrust into.

Despite dealing with the almost unimaginable and the torments brought about by his impossible situation, he manages to offer a humbleness and insight that is astounding and unforgettable. It will simply break your heart and show you the human spirit to its fullest extent and capability.

I did not realise this was an autobiography until 1/3 into the book. The downside of reading something in a language you don't completely understand yet I guess.
