Love or loyalty? Destiny hangs upon a single choice…

Living deep within the mysterious southern forests, the spiritual Ninkuraaja people are being hunted to the brink of extinction by bloodthirsty raiders known only as Woves.

Nobody knows better than a Ninkuraa that a Wove deserves only death.

But when a twist of fate places the life of an injured Wove into young Nyriaana’s hands, she is horrified to discover that the destiny of this most hated enemy is irrevocably tied to hers.

As their burgeoning relationship threatens to tear her whole life apart, Nyriaana comes to realise that she must face a terrible choice: sacrifice the Wove or betray the lives of her own dying people.

Will Nyriaana find the strength she needs to save her tribe? Or will her love for the Wove ultimately doom them all?

Betrayal

Well this book was like the previous. Sorrow filled with attempts at both clan and tribe trying to survive the harsh lands. Flashbacks are what keeps you drawn to story. Baarias was the ultimate betrayal on numerous generations. It shows you it only take one to put in motion good or evil. He was a coward but his teaching was inspiring. That shows you that people are like two side of a coin. Does the good deeds done overshadow the bad? The betrayal at the end was heartbreaking.

This grabbed my attention from the first page. A refreshing take on what could have been a history from our ancient time when the world was still new. Well written with believable characters that quickly grow on you.

A world apart from The Forbidden

Where Rebaa was trying to save her own life & that of her child, Nyri felt she needed to save her entire tribe! Then to complicate matters, someone miraculously returns to her. Or does he? More twists & turns than a rollercoaster!

Deadly Romance

Both lovers entered a "Romeo and Juliette" type romance left over from childhood
promises. They were doomed to protect each other
even at the threat of possible death. This story is a cliff hangar for the next book in the series and I cannot wait to read it!

Good, but...

The story was good, but it felt like it was written from the wrong person’s perspective. I really wanted to know what Juaan’s thoughts were, but his perspective was never shown. The stubbornness of the elders was annoying. The descriptions were good, but I felt like the story didn’t really have a climax.

Daughter of Ninmah

The story continues it’s just a view of times before civilization
A rough time with just enough fiction to keep you feet on the ground I read as fast as possible to learn more of their lifestyle and survival
A very good read

Enjoying this series. It is well thought out and put together and for fans of Alternate History and/or Fantasy this is a must read series. It also gives a possible insight into how our Ancestors might have lived, laughed, loved and struggled.

I knew this would be good! The first book about Rebaa's survival i feel now was like a prequel and so important to the tale we are embarking on.
From the get go I was in shock, Rebaa did all that for what??? Absolutely gutted but then absolutely hooked because what the hell is going on here, what could this book even be about then??
I'm invested now 100% the full series will be mine. Nyri, Nyri, Nyriana....

This was gifted by @lovebookstours but all opinions are my own.

This book was a slower paced book than the first in the series but I still really enjoyed it. I loved the way that mental health was explored through characters and also love for ones family. This book really was engaging and exciting to read. I have already started the next book on the series as this was left on a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to find out more. This is quickly becoming a favourite fantasy series.

I haven't read anything lime this in years.

I am enjoying this so much. Years ago I read "Clan of the Cave Bear" and haven't read anything as good as that type in years. This is it. I am so satisfied with reading this series.

Good yet depressing

Slower than book 1 and somewhat more tedious. Enjoyable yet the feelings evoked while reading are of a continuous despair and lack of hope. There was less tortuous sadness and hopelessness in book 1.
I found myself hoping for much more help from their elderly Spiritual Leader. That there wasn’t much help from her was disappointing. This led to me to speed read in the hope of finding that there might be more hope. I’m ambivalent about whether to read book 3 because of the tortuousness for this book.

Amazing story

Great tale of life in the distant past! Lots of wonderful characters all with the same problems and heartache we have today, only with much more dangerous results! Great read!

Have to say I was disappointed- for a couple reasons. First, the plot was slow and repetitive. Most of the story is the same cycle of activities over and over with a few new bad things thrown in here and there. It drug for me, to the point at the end, I really just wanted it over and to know what happens. Now I have to decide if I want to wade through the third book. The plot was not compelling beyond wondering when the whole thing would fall apart.

Second, and this may be unique to someone like me who has indigenous living skills experience, but there were some glaring problems either with the intelligence of the characters or with the authors understanding of early cultures. One glaring, ongoing issue was the loss of their food. The food was lost on the day (singular) when they all went out to gather. (This would be an ongoing project for their community). But instantly, they were doomed. They may not have been able to restore all of their food supplies before the Fury, but they didn't even try. Once there was mention that the trees were no longer bearing- but what about the next day? They quit over night? And many of their foods, like the roots would still have been harvestable, even if they had to travel farther from their village. Instead, they ration to extreme detriment without doing anything to help themselves survive. Combine that with their religious mania and they were completely non-functional. The author also kept going on about roles- elders, healers, sentries... to find out there were on 15 of them. So lots of important jobs, except the most important of feeding their community. All of this I found to be truly annoying as it was a major theme of the story. I didn't find their culture to have many redeeming qualities- except the very accurate spiritual connection they have with all things of the Earth- which may be the deciding factor between a 2 star rating and the 3 I gave it.

So, even though the story was interesting at times, I still struggled with the book as a whole. It could have been significantly shorter and the improved pacing may have helped.

Only on page 132 and I am already disappointed. Read the first book
"Forbidden" had a little problem finishing it. Great idea but a bit darker than I prefer. However it seemed more realistic than "Clan of the Cave Bear", which I enjoyed immensely. Bought the second book as I wanted to follow the story further. The main character of "Daughter of Ninmah" is working my last good nerve. Her angst isn't resonating with me and the plot has become too predictable. I want to finish reading but at this point it has become irritating. Will probably skip ahead just to see how it is resolved. May even continue with the third book but at this point it isn't looking feasible. Will depend on how predictable the plot remains. Great admiration for the author is keeping me going at this point. Hoping my disappointment isn't related to being immersed in the Wax and Wayne Mistborn series. Am awaiting delivery of books 3 and 4. Perhaps I will come back to this book after I finish the Wax and Wayne series.

Great series!

When Rebaa from the first book sacrifices everything to save her son, Juaan , she has to bring him back to her people. They reject him because he is a mixed child with another race of people. When she dies, another woman promised to take care of Juaan, even though he is hated by the whole tribe. Her daughter, Nyri, makes friends with Juaan. This book follows Nyri, especially after Juaan has been inadvertently caught. She must decide between her people and saving her once best friend. Nyri’s best friend, Kyaati, was pregnant and when she loses her baby, she also loses her will to live. Sefaan, the tribe’s religious advisor, gives her life to save Kyaati while proclaiming that Nyri, Kyaati, and Juaan must all live.

This is a great second book and I will download the next one to read immediately.

Interesting story

Nyri wanted to save the boy she loved. Juann had not died when she thought he did. The woves attacked her village and they had to flee. Nyri was almost raken, but was saved. Years later she is an apprentice healer and her friend is pregnant. Unfortunately, the woves return to attack them and her friend lost the child and her mind. The baby died but not because of the attack. The village has not had a good birth in a long time. The reason has to do with the couplings assigned by the elders.

Juann is now a wove and he falls in the pit. Nyri finds him and helps him survive. She steals food from her people and betrayed them by helping her enemy. Nothing goes well for anyone.

Its an interesting story and I will continue.

An awesome book

The story I recently read was truly riveting and captivating. As I delved deeper into the plot, I found myself completely invested in the characters and their journeys. The way the story explored two different cultures and their clash was not only intriguing but also thought-provoking. The character development was so well-crafted that I could not help but feel a strong connection with them. I was truly invested in their lives and their CULTURAL struggles. The way the author weaved together different elements and created a seamless and engaging plot was truly commendable.

I loved the first book in this series ans this was even better. It was gripping right from the start, it caught hold of me and wouldn't let me go.
It was well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters that were both relatable and believable, and for me one of the best things about the book was its characters.
I loved reading about the stories of the two protagonists and the world building - which was excellent - of the two groups and the stories of the Ninkuraaja people and the woves made for a great read.

Tense & Heartbreaking Ending

What a way to end this part of the story. There is a tense buildup throughout this book, which has been crafted well by the author. The writing brings the story to life, where the reader can almost see, taste, and feel all that is happening. Great story. A good study also on the way beliefs and one’s spirituality shape lives and the world around them.

Book 2 of the Ancestors Saga is filled with death

I was encouraged to read this series because it was said that it was similar to Clan of the Cave Bears, but it isn’t really. There are so many deaths of main characters (which doesn’t occur in that series). But it does here. But there is something that drives you to keep reading this series to see it to the end.

a harsh world I have been drawn into

I am totally drawn in. For the first time time in years I can’t put these books down. This amazing world of trees and beauty made harsh by fanatical people with misguided beliefs. Trusts broken and bonds crushed. I feel like I’m following a path of utter destruction in the blind hope that there’s a thread to hold onto. But I can’t let go.

Not as good as book 1

Wanted something more to happen. Plot was a little dumb. Not enough understand from the author about warriors and how they operate. Hope the next one gives more info and doesn’t string us along with a slow moving plot.
