Mason Walker was never one to shy away from a fight.
It wasn’t that he thought of himself as a “tough guy” or that he was looking for trouble. He was just a man of conviction and indomitable will who would not allow himself to be dictated and dominated by others.
Since his days in the Navy SEALS it had been ingrained in him to face a threat head on rather than to turn away. And in his time, he had indeed faced down more than his fair share of dangerous situations and had always managed to come out on top.
But in more recent times Mason’s methods have been repeatedly called into question. And he has been labeled as being too “headstrong” and even “rogue” when it comes to adhering to his marching orders.
While his handlers play politics meanwhile, all hell breaks loose when a group of terrorists decide to wreak havoc right in the middle of New York City.
Mason discovers that it’s the same group of End Time nihilists he has already faced in the past who are hellbent on cleansing the world of its iniquity through widespread death and destruction.
It’s Mason and his Onyx teammates that uncover the plot and it’s up to Mason and company to foil their plans, as the terrorists seek to release a deadly virus that could kill hundreds of thousands in one sitting.
Only Mason and his fellow Onyx team members just happen to be in the right place at the right time to stop them.
The series started off great, but each of the following books seems a little less interesting. This book in particular starts out in the Amazon with the friend of someone Clara (the main character’s daughter at Stanford) is dating only to find out this friend was not what he seemed. Then this friend is suddenly killed (end of that story). Then the scene of the story changes to hunting a group trying to wipe out humanity with a deadly virus. The story lines at best seem weak and recycled. Hope next book is better!
I kind of liked this book but kind of confused as to 2 sub plots started in this book and I sincerely wanted those two plots to come back later in the series. But wonderful book none the less. One thing I have to tell is that I didn't like Mason in this book. He was irritating to everyone in the team and also to Raina. He may have emotional baggage but when you are in the forces you have to behave according to the rules.

When mayhem cries by Alex Howell. This is book 5 of the Mason Walker series. I'm really enjoying this series. Lots of action. Great story. Some great characters. I'm looking forward to book 6. 4*.
