While local Fire Chief Brody Boudreau has his hands full with a series of suspected arsons plaguing his small town of Shiloh Springs, he finds it impossible to stop thinking about its newest resident.
When Beth Stewart’s ex-husband escapes from behind bars and threatens her and her young daughter, can Brody protect the woman he’s come to love, or will he lose his chance at happiness before it even begins?
USA TODAY Bestselling author Kathy Ivan can’t remember a time when books and reading weren’t a part of my daily life. I was blessed with a mother who instilled the love of reading in me at a young age. That progressed into a passion for the written word in all forms, which led to my writing. Every day I have new stories and new ideas roaming through my brain, the characters chomping at the bit for their turn to be front and center and have their story told. Today that love of storytelling translates into my desire to write and share my stories with others. I write in many genres, but I’m currently concentrating on romantic suspense and paranormal.
My day job is about as uncreative as it gets. I do medical transcription, spending numerous hours at the computer each day trying to decipher the mumbled, garbled and often unrecognizable words the physicians are dictating, in an effort to make a complete and comprehensive patient record. It’s almost as bad as trying to read their handwriting!
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, I’ve lived in various places throughout my youth, from California to Hawaii and back to Florida (Key West), before finally settling in Texas. I make my home outside Dallas, Texas with my spoiled black lab (Missy).
I am a member of Romance Writers of American and the Dallas Area Romance Authors (DARA), where I’m an active member; you can find me at the local meetings each month.
That’s about it off the top of my head. I love talking with other readers and writers, so feel free to contact me.
Brody by Kathy Ivan is the third book in a new series called Texas Boudreau Brotherhood. The Boudreau brothers are all adopted children by Douglas and Ms Patti. Brody is the fire chief in Shiloh Spring. He is suspicious of the number of fires recently in his area, especially the newest one.
Beth is Tessa’s sister. She has just had a horrible time with her ex husband and his stealing money and trying to kill Tessa. Beth and her daughter, Jamie have moved out to Shiloh Spring to be near family. Beth is struggling with money and moving forward. Brody, he thinks, has a secret crush on her, but his whole family notices and encourages him forward. Luckily Beth decides to take the lead and ask him out. Then her ex husband escapes prison and goes after Jamie. Love those Boudreau boys!
Brody by Kathy Ivan is a romantic thriller. The characters, Beth and Brody are fun together. I love the addition of Jamie. The setting and the overwhelming numbers of Bourdreau boys make the story hotly interesting. Brody by Kathy Ivan is a good read.
Oh I just love this family so much! So happy that Brody found what he looking for in Beth and little Jamie! Beth and Brody were awesome! I loved how everything worked out perfectly for them! 💛
Evan is the chief of the fire department. They have had some fired that look like arson. Beth and her daughter have moved to Shiloh Springs. She is Tessa's sister. She is still dealing with the fallout from her divorce. She is beyond broke and it is escalating. Beth finally broke down and asked Brody out on a date. When they were leaving, she receives a call that her ex has escaped prison. The hint is on. Will her ex be found before he finds them? Will Beth and Brody finally go on a date?
This is a sweet and innocent series. No swearing, no sex... some kissing and sudden declarations of love and marriage. Trouble is, the suspense isn't enough to take from an OK read to a good read.
Brody is the third book in Kathy Ivan's Texas Boudreau Brotherhood. In it we meet our lead characters--Bess Stewart and Brody Boudreau. Bess is Tessa's sister. Although she was introduced and appeared in the other two books; she now is the lead character. Here, readers witness her attempts at resurrecting a meaningful life in Shiloh Springs for both herself and her daughter. However, her past still haunts her especially her ex-husband, Evan. Brody Boudreau is the town's Fire Chief. He has been interested in Bess since he first saw her but refrained from advancing in order to give her time to heal and get on her feet. He adores her little girl, Jamie, who he calls Honey Bear. Despite his growing feelings for Bess, Brody faces a series of arsons and is determined to find out who the arsonist is. He struggles to balance his time between solving his arsonist's problem and getting the woman he desires and loves. What will happen to them? Will they end up together? Will their journey be smooth or rough? Will Bess finally rid herself of Evan? Will Brody discover who the arsonist is? To find out, you have to read this contemporary, sweet western romance.
I enjoyed the way Ms. Ivan created her characters. I loved that they were multi-layered and she revealed their dreams, strengths, and vulnerabilities. She allows readers to journey along with her characters as they work out their fears and challenges. I also appreciated Ms. Ivan's use of literary devices such as point of view, dialog, and descriptive language. Through the dialog and their internal dialog readers are provided an opportunity to get to know them better, to truly understand their personalities and to get their backstories. The banter between Jamie and Beth is priceless especially in the scene when Jamie declares, "I can't pick you up, Mommy. You're a grow'd up. You're too big..." I also liked the way Ms. Ivan differentiated between the dialog between characters and the internal dialog by off setting the text in italics.
I was intrigued with the way she used point of view. She shifted between third person point of view and a dual point of view approach. The third person point of view provides the backstories. In this story, particularly, we learned more about the patriarch of the family. The dual point of view familiarizes readers with their past histories and their dreams.
Lastly, her use of descriptive language painted vivid and realistic scenes. For example phrases such as "being mired in a pit of quicksand financially and emotionally." Here we really feel Beth's despair. I also enjoyed the way Ms. Ivan blended two suspense plots together. The first being Evan's intense desire for revenge based on his greed as he pursues Beth to get what he wants. The second is Brody's search for the identity of the arsonist. If you want to read a suspense romance then you should read this one. I'm pretty sure I'm going to continue reading the of in this series as I'm intrigued to learn more about the rest of the Boudreau clan.
Brody: Texas Boudreau Brotherhood Book 3 is by Kathy Ivan. Brody was a fireman and an arson inspector for Shiloh Springs. He was currently in the middle of a series of fires that seemed to be arson. Someone was burning old dilapidated and empty buildings in the countryside around town. The last one was a barn on the Summers’ property. They had all moved away and Mr. Summers was trying to sell the property to help pay the expenses of his wife’s cancer treatment. He had to find the arsonist before he escalated and hurt someone. Brody was also distracted by another problem. He found he was having feelings for Tessa’s sister Beth. Beth’s husband had tried to kill Tessa and planned to kill Beth for an old bond their family has purchased many decades ago to help their community. Tessa, Beth, and their parents thought it was just a neat artifact from the past. They didn’t know it was worth millions. Thwarted, Evan was now in prison and Beth had come to live in Shiloh Springs with her daughter Jamie. Brody wanted to date her; but didn’t know how his brother would feel about it.
You don’t have to read the prior books to enjoy this series but it is easier since those characters are included. The Boudreaus are what you expect of a Texan family…they’re all about family and serving, whether it’s some form of law enforcement or, in Brody’s case, emergency response-fire. Brody is the fire chief of Shiloh Springs and is pretty busy with a series of arson fires and maybe that’s a good thing…because Brody has a thing for the sister of his brother’s fiancee. How complicated is that? Single mom Beth is attracted to Brody but she has baggage from her former marriage, including and incarcerated ex who is determined on revenge. As Brody and Beth begin to explore their relationship, the past comes to haunt Beth. But no one messes with the Boudreaus!!
Overall Amanda rating: A I have loved Beth from the very first time we met her. I am so glad that she finally gets her happy ending. She and her daughter needed to be seen and loved from that first moment. I picture Annie and her mom from Susan Stoker's books when I read this story. Given her circumstances are not as dire, they do need improving. Brody: strong, lovable, and quiet. He has loved Beth from the first meeting as well as her precious daughter. Beth: divorced from a horrible husband, mom, and broke. Patti: the best mom that everyone wants. I will say that I did have the firebug figured out really quickly. Other than that, I did love this book!
This was more of the same as the first 2 books. Damsel in distress, saved by a Boudreau or rather the Boudreau family. Falling in love after not having a date or establishing a relationship.
At least with Brody and Beth's story there was a little more suspense. There were also details provided that I was expecting to read in Rafe's book. I didn't expect all of the details of Beth's reaction, but I did think we would at least get to read about Tessa telling her about Evan.
I don't think the instalove, no dating, no getting to know someone, just desiring each other from afar aspect of this series will go away.
I was provided with the next 3 audiobooks, so I guess I will find out.
Brody: I Love how caring all the brothers are but how all are different in many ways. I love how all of them serve in different ways to do with their careers. Brody maybe the Fire Cheif and gathers all the evidence for fires that may be suspicious before he comes to a conclusion. I love how Beth is such a great mother. Brody and Beth have a connection that neither one was expecting but happen but they were not realizing it until it was right there and once everything was taken care of with her ex. Great story and writing.
My review of this one is pretty identical to the previous one. Although this book had more editing errors. Engaging characters and an interesting premise, but I didn't always connect with the writing. The plot seemed a bit rushed and I didn't like the antagonist point of view chapters. Author seems to paint these antagonists who think they are one thing but really are something else. It makes for a confusing story as you're not sure how serious the threat really is. It's an interesting choice the author makes and I'm not sure it works.
Wow, Beth and Brody’s romance is a thrilling, edge of your seat read. Brody is a savvy fire chief. Beth is a single Mom trying to get her confidence back. Loved the book. Wish that more text was spent on letting us know if Beth gets out from under the mountain of debt her ex-Evan, left her with or did the bank account info Evan provided get used to pay the debts off?????
Someone is setting fires in his town, and Brody has to figure out who it is and why they are doing it. In the mean time, Evan has broken out of jail and he's coming for his ex. The whole family are going to circle their wagons to keep Beth and Jamie, Beth's four year old daughter, safe.
Another wonderful story with a HEA. I never would have guessed who the arsonist was.
The story line keeps you engaged from start to finish as another Boudreau brother finds love. The characters have intense connections and there are strong family bonds throughout. Great addition to this amazing series and I highly recommend it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book; all opinions expressed are my own.
Beth and Brody are attracted to each other from their first meeting. Beth’s ex, Evan Stewart, tried to kill her, her sister and Rafe and Brody. All of it due to greed. Beth moves across country to be near her sister. Evan escapes from jail and everything goes haywire.
The alpha men of the Boudreau family as dropping one by one...dropping in love. These exciting, adventurous men are finding similar women to make their lives complete. Be sure to read up and enjoy their adventure as it unfolds.
Brody always was sweet on Beth. She is strong & keeps moving for her daughter. Her ex husband is always a threat that Brody isn't going to let go. You can't help but be happy for them when they make their feeling obvious. Enjoyable!
