Anna Elliott is an author of historical fiction and fantasy. She enjoys stories about strong women, and loves exploring the multitude of ways women can find their unique strengths. She was delighted to lend a hand with the Sherlock & Lucy series, and thrilled to continue a new spin-off series featuring Becky and Flynn. Her first series, the Twilight of Avalon trilogy, is a retelling of the Trystan & Isolde legend. She wrote her second series, The Pride & Prejudice Chronicles , chiefly to satisfy her own curiosity about what might have happened to Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, and all the other wonderful cast of characters after the official end of Jane Austen’s classic work.

1899 Flynn one of Holmes’ Iregulars visits his friend Amir Tremazian every Tuesday at his artist studio. This Tuesday after returning from an errant for him, Flynn discovers the studio burning. He rescues Amir, who is soon under the care of Dr Watson. But what could be the motive.
Meanwhile Holmes and Lucy are attending the National Portrait Galley as a guard has been killed and a painting stolen. But this is not the last of the deaths.
Is there a connection between the two events.
Another enjoyable and well-written historical mystery in the Holmes genre with its likeable characters.
Received and ARC from the author.

Fun, quick reads, but Becky is starting to grate.

These stories are fun, quick little mysteries. One thing is continually bugging me though. I can accept one new extraordinary character in the form of Lucy, as having Holmes-like observation and deducting skills. She’s an actress that learned part of those skills and is the natural daughter of Sherlock Holmes.
But they seem to be setting up the Becky character as also being another wunderkind of observation, deduction and now future doctor. I’m sorry to say the character is really getting on my nerves. Lucy & Jack need to reign that child in. They just shake their heads and smile in exasperation whenever this child sneaks out in the night and goes to crime scenes and places of danger in Victorian London! She’s 10 years old ffs. She’s like an annoying puppy, always yip yapping. Now we have to read from her point of view as well? Ugh.

It's Flynn's turn, now :D When his Persian artist friend is almost killed, Flynn asks for Watson's help. And, of course, Lucy and Becky are soon involved, too :P

Meanwhile, Holmes is brought into the murder of one of the National Portrait Gallery's guards, committed during the theft of one of its paintings. When he hears about the attack on Flynn's friend, he knows it must be related. Soon, the plot will thicken, with more murders and more danger to everybody involved. Quick-paced and thrilling, this is another great story in this series.

We get to learn a little more about Flynn, who is fascinating not only by his independence and resourcefulness but for his loyalty and big heart.

Oh, and I love that Becky wants to be a doctor! ♥

Performance: ****
Story: ****

A solid, quick Sherlockian mystery surrounding murder and an art gallery. At just over 2 hrs, the story moves quickly and that is one of its strengths. In addition, the story adds support from some of Sherlock’s Irregulars … those street urchins that have become the eyes and ears of the Great Detective in the seedy underbelly of society. The narration was fantastic, with good range of voice and dialect to separate the characters.

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Seemed, maybe, a bit disjointed to me, but more than likely it was a combination of having read a totally unrelated story right before this one, then going on to this one with the different than usual focus on Flynn and Becky. I had stopped reading this series only to find there were a few more that I had missed yet, so had to find them to finish out the previous ones I had found.

A short story with Flynn as a central character

Flynn has an artist friend who is assaulted and he asks Watson to help him. At the same time Holmes is asked to look into an art theft from a museum. The book has many twists and turns with a surprise ending. I did not read the books in order but that seemed fine and this is now the 27th in the series I have read so I will await any new books.

Another terrific outing of the Baker Street Team. Sherlock and Lucy appear as well, but the team is the main focus here. The mystery kept me guessing until the end. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Cute Story

Cute and mysteries are not words that usually go together, but this one could be a rare exception.
The story focuses more on Flynn and his friend Amir, a foreign artist. When Amir's life is threatened, Flynn calls on other special friends for help...
A good mystery that shows the value of friendships.

Nice plotted and satisfying mystery

This was a nice, though brief, addition to the S&L series. The kids get a good role in this story and this would probably be acceptable for young adults or even middle school age group.. But, of course it’s great for adults, especially if you don’t like graphic violence, profanity, etc. . Very enjoyable!

Five Pink Ladies was a fast-paced, atmospheric mystery that plunges the Baker Street Irregulars into a dangerous world of art, deception, and murder in Victorian London.

With clever twists, high stakes, and a strong sense of friendship and intellect, Elliott and Veley delivered a fresh, thrilling, energetic take on classic Sherlockian intrigue and mystery!

Good Show!

A good short story, I think you are getting used to short story length and it's showing. For a while I kind of didn't get with the program, but now the flow is back. Congratulations. I still miss the longer stories , too.

Again, in the 19th story, the characters are very well drawn especially the more mnior ones. I do love the movement of the plot with enough twists to keep the pages turning. I do enjoy the Sherlock and Lucy series.

This is a fascinating story with some exotic characters and quite a convoluted plot! I always enjoy hearing Flynn and Becky’s adventures. Mr. Holmes surprised me again at the end.

A very good tale

These stories do have the feel of the originals. The stories are brand new to Holmes, Watson and Lucy. Flynn is an excellent addition. The side characters have enough detail to add to the story , but still keep it short. Fun reading.

delightful read

Again Anna and Charles spun a worthy read. I can imagine Holmes and Dr Watson just as they were in the original stories. This episode feature Becky and Finn in an adventure that must have frustrated and yet pleased Holmes and Lucy.

Everyone is involved

I enjoy these books so much. They are especially fun when Becky and Flynn get their own chapters. Art heist, art forgery, a fire, and an attempted alley attack-- lots of danger!

As I work my way through this series, I find each book and story to be engaging as it adds a bit more to the tale of the Great Detective. Elliot and Veley have done a fine job of increasing the usual cast of characters with the addition of Lucy Kelly (nee James), her husband Jack, his young sister Becky, and the Baker Street Irregular simply known as Flynn. FIVE PINK LADIES sees the youngest members of the team, Becky and Flynn helping with the investigation.

Rather than chapter titles, chapters are written in the voice of a specific character. A chapter titled "Flynn" puts his thoughts and actions front and center. These various perspectives allow for a more nuanced telling of the tale.

Although you might want to read FIVE PINK LADIES as a standalone, it does refer back to earlier books in the series. I highly recommend that you start at the beginning with THE LAST MORIARTY and work your way through all the books. I have found each a worthy addition to the canon.
