Shane was officially one of Britain’s most dangerous prisoners. He had been on the run for two separate accounts of attempted murder. When in prison he took a hostage, stabbed two prison officers, and orchestrated riots. In a maximum security prison, he was locked up in solitary in a special cell with only cardboard furniture and allowed no human contact. Every time he was moved out of his cell, it took seven officers with shields and full riot gear, even then he nearly killed one of the officers. Then an extraordinary miracle stopped him in his tracks. In the very darkest place, the light can shine the brightest, his transformation was remarkable. Nicky Gumbel says “Shane changed from one of the most dangerous men in the prison system… his story is inspiring.” Tim Hughes says it is “A gripping story that exudes hope” The Cross and the Switchblade for today's generation.
The book is about a man named Shane Taylor who was known as one of Britain's most dangerous criminals. It's not for the faint hearted as it does have some quite graphic descriptions in some of chapters and includes violence, torture, attempted murder and domestic violence.
I thought it was just going to be another kind of prison diary from a prisoners perspective but it was more than that.
It is really interesting to read and makes Lyon understand why a prisoner says it’s been a good day when they actually go home at the end of their shift and that they have not been injured. It gave me even more respect for the job that prison officers do and confirms how dangerous it is or can be.
The book has also restored my faith in humankind and shows how if they want to absolutely anyone can change for the better.
THE best book that shows the story of no hope in life to REAL life chngers
Loved this book so much, I have bought 2 extra paper copies to share round. I want everyone to read this. To know how God can and does change lives and saves lives. Love Shanes passion for sharing God's word and how he just speaks Jesus to anyone and everyone, the hardest of men, changed for God, sharing God's love in the hardest to reach of places in prisons. His real life experiences his brutal honesty of how he lived a criminal life, the consequences of prison and the transformation in Christ. Wow. I want to speak Jesus just like Shane.
It's been a while since I felt emotional reading a book, this has everything violence, injustice, justice love. Thoroughly recommend teenage and upwards.
Bought this book because I heard Shane tell his story on a podcast. Thoroughly enjoyed this book, gritty and enthralling. I wish Shane all the very best for the future.
A well researched and written account of a young man, from childhood locked in a vicious circle of crime and punishment. inescapable ?
From the streets of Peterlee to becoming the most dangerous prisoners in the UK System. A remarkable story but one that demonstrates that even in the darkest of places there is hope.
Life changes are both possible and can happen. This is Shane's story.
A real page turner. No holes barred, shocking and deeply moving in places.
A book that is difficult to put down and even hard to forget.
