Peacemakers. The Galactic Union’s most capable enforcers and resolute negotiators, their name alone elicits fear and awe among the Union’s citizenry.
Being a Peacemaker isn’t easy. They’re charged with setting the terms and doing anything which needs to be done—even if it personally costs them everything. They must learn to honor the threat to all life, and, in the end, they must stand or fall, based on their own convictions.
Welcome back to the Four Horsemen universe, where only a willingness to fight and die for money separates Humans from the majority of the other races. Edited by Mia R. Kleve and bestselling author Kevin Ikenberry, “Set the Terms” includes fourteen all-new Peacemaker-themed stories in the Four Horsemen universe by a variety of bestselling authors—and some you may not have heard of…yet.
From pigs flying to cats landing on their feet, “Set the Terms” shows Peacemakers at work from the origin of the guild to present day. Journey with a Lumar Peacemaker as he tries to complete his first mission and watch as a Phidae Peacemaker tries to complete his final one. They will have to use their wits as well as their weapons if they hope to remain standing at the end of the day.
Are you ready to set the terms? If so, then step inside!
I started this book expecting a follow-up of the previous two, but nope, short stories.. I was a bit disgruntled with this, as I am not a huge fan of short stories, and i was curious at how the whole peacekeepers go to war would unfold. But these stories do give an insight into the organisation, and how it developed. So not only more to connect with, but also a wider view as to how all these races view the one goal their Guild sets. Quite enjoyable, but I do hope the next issue will continue with the Guild going to war, as that is the big drive behind most of what i read these past books.
Another solid entry in the Four Horsemen universe. There are some great stories in SET THE TERMS. If you're a fan of military science fiction, take a gander at this book. You won't be disappointed.
Very highly recommended! This anthology is very, very good! Sure, your mileage may vary but none of the stories was weak. Depending of personal tastes the favorite stories will be different for each reader. In the first story Mark Wandreydelivers some interesting, teasing tidbits of information about the end of the great war and the beginning of the peacemakers... Makes you yearn to learn more about that era, as you get a strong impression that such revelations will impact the present. Also, we enjoy the first activation of the Blue Flight Protocol, we enjoy jurisdicional conflicts with earth authorities, we discover Nepal through the eyes of a Zuul, we discover that some things are not meant to be pets... well, I could continue at length.... I won't list and comment on each and every short story, they are each, in their own way, memorable and give you a good idea of what it means to be a peacemaker! A worthy addition to the 4HU and the Peacemaker story line. Really hoping to meet some of those characters of those short stories in further adventures (even though some were met in prior adventures!)
Set the Terms is a great anthology about Peacemakers. It covers the beginnings of some, the near end of at least one, and the weird, wild adventures of others. This includes two just attempting to repair their craft and another just trying to go fishing during his vacation. We meet old friends like Jessica and Jackson and new ones like Rikki, Tikki and Tavi.
Get on board! You are in for wild adventures. There is much to see and do as we follow these soon-to-be or seasoned Peacemakers. You will not regret it.
Loved the short stories in this book. All the stories gave a look at both different aliens as Peacemakers, but each had different ways of solving issues. Kudos to all the writers
Another brilliant anthology this time dealing with the Peacemaker Guild. Over 500 pages so it is a good read - there are plenty of lovely stories. I'm sure all fans will select a few standouts. For me it was the absolute last short. Wonderfully written and a very heartwarming story - which is nice in between the action, tragedy and drama of the 4HU.
A great collection of stories that add color and depth - and a few surprises, to characters in the Rise of the Peacemakers series and the Four Horsemen Universe!
