Drugs. An Army Ranger. And a District Attorney with political motives. An explosive mixture with the ability to ruin careers and lives. The Ranger’s only hope is his former Team Leader Chase Harper; a man he betrayed. Should Chase jeopardize his own freedom to take on the DA in this unbalanced game of cat and mouse, where the winner takes all?

When an active member of Chase’s former Ranger Team is visiting family in Reno, Nevada, and gets arrested for possessing a controlled substance, Chase gets the call to ‘unofficially’ look into it. A call that triggers their past. A call reminding Chase of a time when the sacred code of brotherhood had been trampled and violated.

Chase decides to dig up the facts and let the chips lie where they fall. To expose the truth and let the law run its course. After all, in the end, a brother’s a brother and deserves that much…shouldn’t he?

Chase soon discovers that presenting the truth to the DA isn’t enough. The DA has his own agenda, bent on spinning a conviction no matter the cost, including adding Chase as collateral damage.

When the DA is holding all the cards—including the police department and court system—how would you play your hand? If you’re Chase Harper, you focus your sights, pick your allies, and prepare for the best-laid plans to shift with the ever-changing cards.

What’s at stake? Lives.

And Chase is all-in.

An Army Ranger charged with possession with the intent to distribute and a pompous DA with skeleton's in his closet up for reelection can only mean trouble.

Army Ranger, Toribio "TJ" Jimenez, is visiting his sister in Reno when he gets pulled over by local law enforcement. With nothing to hide he allows them to search the car (borrowed from his sister). Next thing TJ knows he's in jail on a possession with intent to distribute charge. He knows the drugs weren't his or his sister's, they had to belong to the girl he picked up at the bar. TJ doesn't see an easy way out--taking a plea deal will end his military career and he can't put his sister through a trial. His Army Ranger boss calls in a favor from former Army Ranger, Chase Harper, but there's a tiny problem--TJ and Chase who once served together had a falling out. Will Chase be able to put aside their issues to help a "brother"?

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I like to read suspense/thrillers in between my long stretches of romance reads. This one really cleansed my reading palate as the tiny romantic element took up less than 1% of the story. It was all about the DA having to do a favor for someone who knows the skeleton hidden in his closet. The one he can't risk getting out, and how willing he was to sacrifice an obviously innocent man to accomplish his design of getting reelected to another term as DA.

I liked that there weren't so many characters I couldn't keep track of them. I liked Chase's flying-by-the-seat-of-his-pants-plans. As a reader we didn't find out what they were until they happened--there wasn't much foreshadowing so I was as surprised as the character in the book when things happened. I liked how the character of Ellie wasn't all bad and TJ's sister, Sophia, kind of took her under her wing to point her in the right direction. I loved when Sophia stood up to the book's big bad--Wild Bill--and pointed out what a lousy brother he was to Ellie. All through the book we hear Bill's thoughts of how he feels about his sister when he was enabling her problem all along. It was like a slap in his face and I loved it. I will probably check out more books by this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book by author. All thoughts expressed in my review are my own.

Sergeant Hicks (US Army 75th. Ranger Regiment C/O), had called Chase Harper (retired Sergeant US Army 75th. Ranger Regiment Team Leader) while he/Megan (sister) were out.
The officers were getting closer to TJ & Ellie (aka Ellen, meth addict, probation). The flashing lights came on.

1 officer handed the registration, insurance & DL back to TJ.
Ft. Benning, GA. Toribio “TJ” Jimenez (US Army 75th. Ranger Regiment) & Ellen had been arrested.
Reno, NV. Washoe County Jail. Eleanor “Ellie” King called William “Wild Bill” King (Billy, Ellie’s brother). She can’t bail TJ out.
DA Lance F. Talbot, Jacob Marks (Public Defender, TJ’s attorney) & ADA Terrance Holmes (Washoe County) were discussing the upcoming case.
Jacob & Chase met with TJ.
Double Shot Bar. Chase went to do some investigation on his own.

Hooah. My son’s retired USAF. He is probably the last 1 that will serve in the military.

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great Suspense movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free author (s); Goodreads; MakingConnections; Making Connections discussion group talk; Author; UCP, PDF book.
