When I get a job at a company in my field, it feels like something is finally going right.
That and the attention from my ruggedly sexy coworker… or is he my boss?
Either way, he provides a bit of pleasure in the midst of all this struggle.
But is he just a temporary diversion or can I trust him with my heart?

Rand

Going from trailer park kid to successful business owner should have fulfilled my every dream.
But now that I’m here, life feels kind of empty.

"Her gaze jerks up to meet mine, probably in response to the hint of possession in my tone. I can’t help it. She turns on all of my protective and dominating impulses."

This was a pretty good little read. I didn't understand why Rand hid the fact he was the boss so long and I don't know why Tess was so determined to hold onto her anger so one star off for that. Otherwise it's a fun story and worth the read.

Surprisingly for a short story it was a little slow in the beginning. Not much happening. But it started to take off and I really ended up liking it. Steamy and sweet. And emotional. I teared up at a couple of points. There was one scene that seemed a little disjointed and out of nowhere. Then I realized it was being set up for the next book in the series. Other than that, a really good romance.

The couple: Rand and Tess

Romance genre: insta-love/office romance
Series: Bad Bosses
Length: 59 pages

Plot: Tess is having a bad time. She's had to leave college early and move back home to help her mom out; her stepfather is dying from a brain tumor, and she is having a hard time finding a job. But she encounters Rand at a coffee shop, and he tells her he thinks things will start looking up soon. See, he actually owns the company that she's interviewing with (unbeknownst to her). So of course she does get the job - and the guy! But can she forgive Rand for not being completely honest?

Character development: So Tess was a tough cookie, but I don't think I understood her anger at his "lying." He didn't tell her that , and he should have, probably right after she was hired, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. But he certainly did a good job making up for it. Lovely grovel - I approve!

My favorite lines:
The son of a bitch keeps glancing at me over his shoulder, making sure I’m paying attention as he flirts with my woman. He rests his hand on her shoulder as he leans close to her, using his other hand to point at something. He’s practically hugging her, they’re so close, heads tilted together. Her honey brown locks mixing with his golden hair. Piss-colored is what it is. Horse piss hair.

Rugged Boss is the second book in Liz Fox’s Bad Bosses series. In this steamy office romance novella, readers are introduced to Tess and Rand. She is a loving, caring, and talented young woman. He is a wealthy self-made man running his own construction company. Destiny brings these two together in a chance meeting in a coffee shop. From their first meeting, an attraction existed. Ms. Fox, once again, created intriguing and relatable characters. I enjoyed the way these primary characters grow throughout the story. She also does a great job with secondary characters like Jesse and Thayer. They help to motivate Rand to clarify his feelings for Tess. I enjoyed Ms. Fox’s skill in developing conversational and internal dialog that helps move this romance plot along. I loved the way she connected this book to the others in the series by including the Vincent Street charity event. Nice touch! This was a quick and enjoyable read. Great job, Ms. Fox.

Loved it, as I do everything by Liz Fox! First off, a sexy, possessive, rugged alpha of a man who is also a construction company boss - YUM! Second, a young lady willing to leave school, move home and find a job, and support her mother, all because the step-father she barely knows is dying - Sweet beyond words and strong to boot. I loved the dynamic between Rand and Tess, the fire and heat and caring and compassion. And I must say, I loved the cameo on Vincent Street at the end! I'm very excited to see what comes next!

Life gets better, after tragedy, and bumps along the road

I love the curvy Tess , her strength, caring for her mom, Sick stepfather. She meets a handsome guy in coffee shop, ends up telling him, looking for a job, and her mom,s situation! Has a interview for a job, what she doesn't know, is that is is for Rand' s company. Rand makes sure she gets hired, wanting her to get some breaks, feeling attraction to her.
Life has been made happier for her. I was sad reading ,how sick, stepfather was, how couldn't communicate. My heart went out to mom and Tess. At the end Rand, Tess start a new chapter in their lives, a proposal, kitten named Eva.

Tess is halfway to becoming an architect when she has to quit school and move back in with her mom to help with her step-dad who has terminal cancer. When she bumps into Rand getting coffee, she unloads her life on him…little does she know, Rand is her new boss and he can’t keep his hands or his mouth off of her.

This was a fun, steamy little read, and I really enjoyed both characters. The only issue I had was how often Rand told Tess she was his. While I enjoy the alpha male type, just the sheer repetition of the word “mine” drove me bonkers. Otherwise, it was great and I recommend.

They are both fighters. Rand has made it while Tess is still struggling to make ends meet. She has left school to come home and help out since her stepfather has fallen ill. She meets Rand at her favorite coffee place when she accidentally leaves her wallet at home. After a brief conversation which is all, it took for Rand to get the ball moving to change Tess's outlook on life. The more time they spend together the more determined Rand is to make his fighter his forever. This story draws you in and have you backing this delightful couple.

One of the most random instalove novellas I've ever read

cw: cancer, death
This was so random! The main storyline was the predictable instalove tropes, and those elements were... fine. But there’s a subplot about terminal cancer, as well as another character talking about cancer. Then there’s mentions of kittens randomly interspersed. The epilogue is spent getting a kitten (and look, I ADORE cats, but i don't get the weird focus on them in such a short story. I have the next story on my Kindle, but life’s too short to read another like this sorry.

Short, sweet, steamy office romance

She bought her coffee when she had forgotten her wallet. She didn't know that he was the owner of the company she was on her way to an interview at. She doesn't know that the man who befriends her technically her boss. He has never wanted anything serious but there's something different about her. This short, sweet, steamy office romance is a fun escape with a good storyline

Great book

Enjoying this series of stories. I like reading about friends and family finding their other half in life. This book had happiness, lust and heartbreaking sadness all in one. I had an acquaintance who passed from brain cancer. It was hard seeing him deteriorate as much as he tried to fight it. Great story!

Tess and Rand

Cute novella - they bump into each other at a coffee shop right before her interview at his company. She has no idea it’s his company, she thinks he just works there. He basically falls instantly and he woos her. His friends tease him which is sweet.

He gets her a kitten and then proposes.

Rand is a supportive and heartwarming boss and Tess is an independent girl used to deal with whatever life throws at her. Jesse, a secondary character, is the one that opens Rand’s eyes to what he may loose and their story made me sigh.

Strong men brought to their knees...

In the best possible way. It's funny when these bosses think they are taking over, but in reality they are being taken over. And I can't get enough of it. Strength found in love is never a weakness.

Thank you, Liz Fox

I loved Tess' and Rand's story. I want the author to know that the sadder aspects do NOT lessen the reader's enjoyment of the story; on the contrary, the element of reality enriches what could have been a rather formulaic tale.

great story!

The whole ‘fighter’ nonsense, every other line, got really old, really fast.
Otherwise, it was a great quick, love at first sight romance, and a nice way to spend a cold, rainy morning.

Cute

Cute read. However, the nickname for the FMC was super lame and annoying throughout the book. I wish that author thought of something else cause it was super distracting and didn’t seem to fit of the vibe of the story.

Nice, quick read!

I enjoyed this short story, though the jump from his interest to getting down to it gave me whiplash! I enjoyed what we knew of the characters, but there wasn't much description. It was as advertised and I would recommend it!
