No CompassionA vicious rape, a woman left traumatised. A previous victim is quickly identified. Then more come forward. A serial rapist is attacking the women of Exeter in their beds at night. There are fingerprints and DNA but no matches, CCTV but no identification. With the press clamouring for answers DS Pete Gayle and his team must work through a maze of conflicting evidence to identify and arrest the offender before he can commit another brutal attack.
I usually really enjoy books by Jack Slater, but this one was not up to his usual standard. The Peter Gayle series is about a detective and his squad who work together to solve the crime of the day. I felt that the first seven books in this series had more compelling story lines and made you connect with the characters as it went along. This episode, however, is mostly full of police room banter between officers, following one tedious lead to the next, and then finally solving the crime. The problem is, it just never went any deeper, it was just one thing led to the next and then they finally got the guy. Which, from the time his character was introduced, I surmised was the culprit. I look forward to more Jack Slater books, but I hope they are in his Jason Trapp series instead.
DS Gayle and his team have finally arrested there man for the numerous rape cases they have been investigating. A man who thought himself to be very clever. A user of people, his friends, his wife, his lover. No morals or compassion. Just a self serving bastard. He still serve the rest of his life in prison and hopefully expires there. Men convicted of rapes, child molestation and other sex crimes don't have a long life expectancy in prison. Another excellent read in this series!!!Enjoyed immensely!!
Okay still reading Peter Gayle books but this one just didn’t hold my attention. Lots of police investigative work and details that just weren’t all that interesting.
