Rosa Larkin is down on her luck in London, so when she inherits a near-derelict corner shop in a quaint Devon village, her first thought is to sell it for cash and sort out her life. But nothing is straightforward about this legacy. While the identity of her benefactor remains a mystery, he - or she - has left one important legal proviso: that the shop cannot be sold, only passed on to somebody who really deserves it.
Rosa makes up her mind to give it a go: to put everything she has into getting the shop up and running again in the small seaside community of Cockleberry Bay. But can she do it all on her own? And if not, who will help her succeed - and who among the following will work secretly to see her fail?
There is a handsome rugby player, a sexy plumber, a charlatan reporter and a selection of meddling locals. Add in a hit and run incident and the disappearance of a valuable engraved necklace – and what you get is a journey of self-discovery and unpredictable events.
With surprising and heartfelt results, Rosa, accompanied at all times by her little sausage dog Hot, will slowly unravel the shadowy secrets of the inheritance, and also bring her own, long-hidden heritage into the light.
I really liked the characters and their stories but having read the trilogy one after another they were spoilt by the repetitive descriptions of who everyone was and their backstories nearly every time they were mentioned. A reader could get practically the entire story of the trilogy in the last book. That ruined the books for me. There are far too many descriptions and details about what the dogs are doing and thinking. Each time 2 or more characters are mentioned then the description of their relationships and feeling are repeated every single time. These could be condensed down to 2 books as there would be enough content.
I enjoyed these books, watching the main character grow and building her life and the relationship with the villagers, her husband and her best friend Titch. What a wonderful place Cockkeberry Bay is. A fictional place you would love to escape to. There is actually 4 books in this series. I am in a sad time in my life and found these books such a happy distraction.
I feel like I have climbed inside this ‘boxed set’ of books about Cockleberry Bay. I feel I know the characters on an intimate basis. Nicola May has the gift of transporting a reader into another reality. I am also devastated to have finished the series which forced me to climb out of that delightful world I loved so much.
Read this heart warming book in one session. Love the way the characters have developed over the trilogy. A delightful, amusing, feel good set of books.
Loved all the Cockleberry Bay books, read the first one and couldn't wait to read the rest. Only trouble was they were over too soon. Could have kept in reading about Rosea and the rest inhabitants. Lived every second.
A great feel good story with such likeable characters that I want to move to Cockleberry Bay! All the books in the series were equally as good. I read the Ferry Lane Market series first which I also loved...a great writer!
Thank you, Kindle Unlimited for in try me go the delightful author and her work. Have enjoyed my visit to Cocklebury Bay and hope more readers will venture there, as well. You won't regret it.
