Rose Down on my knees, I dare not glance up at the vaulted ceiling made of beautiful crystal glass. I can only stare down as I scrub the flawless, white marble floors of the Godfrey Hotel’s luxurious lobby. I am just a lowly janitor here in white overalls and a name tag that says, “Elliot.” The Elliot name used to instill admiration and envy among this hotel’s snobby clientele. My family used to own the biggest real estate company in New York. But the adage of “higher they rise, harder they fall” is definitely true for us. I am now scrubbing the floor of my family’s hotel, or what used to be my family’s hotel. But I know that I may be starting on the bottom, but one day I’ll get back to the top. Fletcher She thinks that she can hide in plain sight. No amount of drabby uniforms and manual labor can hide her radiance. Even though I have now achieved more wealth than I’ve ever imagined possible and I am currently the darling of the snobby elite of this city, I have never forgotten Rose Elliot. She is the only good thing that has ever come out of her despicable family. I have taken everything away from that wretched family as they lay in utter ruin. Now, I will rob Rose of her dignity the way her family did to mine. This is a steamy, fast-burn, happily-ever-after, safe romance about a wickedly handsome billionaire and his sweet young lady.
This was a sweet story, and I liked it, but it was more of a slow burn and not really J/P enough for my taste. It was well-written and the main characters are likable, so I might try reading other stories in the series.
Huh? This went from a semi decent beginning to a super quick rush to the ending. Did not make sense at all. Did I just read a first draft of a novel? What happened here?
Rose Elliot is a very likable person, underestimated and unnoticed by many. Her family used to own the biggest real estate company in New York, and in fact, used to own the hotel she was currently employed by as she scrubbed their floors.
Fletcher Robbins was the son of Rose’s father’s secretary. He had worked his way from the ground up and was just becoming successful when his best friend, Mark Elliot, betrays him. Although Fletcher pulls himself up once again to the pinnacle of success, now New York’s newest billionaire, it changed him and made him harder and colder. However, seeing Rose on her hands and knees scrubbing the lobby of the hotel he now owns, he is surprised and offers her a job as his assistant when his “Ivy League grad who can’t even take simple directions” is incompetent as the temporary replacement while his usual assistant is on maternity leave. Working with the sweet and kind Rose, who doesn’t strike out at the world for her current situation, starts to bring Fletcher back to the good person he used to be.
When her brother comes back into the picture and faces Fletcher, Mark reveals the truth to his sister as to what happened when he betrayed Fletcher and why. Would the truth shared now heal old wounds? Or was it too late to forgive?
This was a slow but good story that is worth reading. The characters are memorable and their story is important. Grab your copy and see if they can work things out and make it right again.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Fletcher and Rose. They grew up together, but came from different families. Rose and her brother were the children of a wealthy businessman and Fletcher's mother was his secretary. Now years later, they meet again when Fletcher finds Rose working in one of his hotels as a cleaner. Rose's family lost everything and she is caring for her sick mother while working two jobs. Fletcher built his fortune and now has a number of hotels. Fletcher's assistant is off on maternity leave and he can't seem to find another one that can put up with his moods. When Fletcher sees Rose, he tells her he wants her to be his new assistant. Fletcher was thinking about taking revenge against Rose, but the more time he spends with her, the more he thinks she doesn't know everything about when her family lost everything. Fletcher also finds he is having feelings for Rose. I enjoyed this story. I think Fletcher wasn't as bad as i first thought. Rose was a strong woman and was willing to work hard to care for her mother. I liked how Rose made Fletcher better and softened him. Good one.
Our heroine's family once owned the hotel she now cleans as a janitor, but she is determined to rise again. But not as an angry avenger, just as a phoenix from the ashes.
This is book three in the series but it is written as a standalone. No prior reading required.
This is a short novella length romance. The story is well written, easy to read and comes with two solid, well developed characters. They have a history, but our heroine doesn't let the past define her. There was hurt and betrayal in the past, but it doesn't have to affect the future. I really liked our heroine and her strength. Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read. I am quite enjoying this series.
Highly recommended.

Loved this quick read. Fletcher and Rose have known each other for years but things happened to make them lose touch. When he sees her again, she is on her hands and knees scrubbing floors. They had such undeniable chemistry between them. Loved watching them get together. Can’t wait until Mark’s story.
