The premiere LitRPG series from bestselling author Eric Ugland! Page-turning action, RPG mechanics, and sweet level progression with a deep magic and game system from beginning to end. These are the first three stories, wrapped up in a convenient anthology edition.
Book 1: One More Last Time
A ruined life. A broken heart.
He thought it was the end, and his gun sat ready to make sure.
But an oddball offer from his only friend comes at the literal last second. Curiosity gets the best of him, and he finds himself sucked into iNcarn8, a game claiming to be a whole new life. Now as Montana, the larger-than-life tank warrior, he has one more last time to get his life right.
Book 2: Heir Today, Pawn Tomorrow
Montana's new life in Vuldranni, the medieval fantasy game world he lucked into, isn't quite the tranquil extended fishing trip he'd been hoping for. But you gotta admit, he's doing pretty well for himself. Now he's Montana Coggeshall, heir to a dukedom. That is, if he can get his crew to Osterstadt and claim it in time.
Heir Today, Pawn Tomorrow is a heart-pounding adventure through uncharted territory. If you're ready for an epic quest full of hellbeasts, ghost royals, and wyrm guts, this is the book for you.
Book 3: Dungeon Mauling
Just when Montana thought he had life in Vuldranni figured out, the rug is pulled out from under him. He's alone once again, but now he's in the crosshairs of the man who would be emperor, and a whole host of people are counting on Montana to provide a safe haven for them.
Dungeon Mauling is LItRPG adventure cruising at breakneck speed. There are epic hobgoblin battles, hordes of monsters, insane leveling, otter hammer throws, relentless mimics, the most revolting water slide you'll ever hear of, and one cocktail you can only hope to forget.
------------------------------ Praise for The Good
"Love love love the pacing. Wow this book is super crisp, precise, and witty. Love it." -Kindle reviewer
"Ten Nothings out of Ten, would stab a dwarf into and use as an improvised large weapon again." -Kindle reviewer
"I have never reviewed a book but felt this one deserved it. The author made me laugh and managed to hook me with original characters as well as an intriguing setting/storyline. Amongst a sea of Litrpg books that are crippled by poor editing and unoriginal takes on the core Litrpg genre tropes, this author has my attention and is going on my short list of download immediately authors." -Kindle reviewer
I took a gamble picking up this "box set" for Eric Ugland's litRPG series. The gamble paid off. I started the second one immediately after reading the first, and kept going through the series. It's a great fantasy adventure story, often hilarious, with intriguing characters and a ton of action. It's also fun (and kind of rare in this subgenre) to have a main character go down the path of a musclebound warrior rather than embracing the powers of magic in this new world. He also changes weapons more often than he changes his socks, beating foes with whatever is handy until the enemies and weapon are mangled beyond recognition.
If I had a complaint, it might be that the entire world is too snarky. Don't get me wrong, sarcasm and snarkiness is fun. I can assume that anyone hanging out with Montana for very long will probably inherit some level of his sarcasm. And maybe that colors his world view of what everyone else does and says, and even the "system messages" to him are tailored to have a degree of sarcasm. But when that characteristic is so dominant, it loses its edge. Not enough for me to ding the books a full star, but too much of a good thing can be a flaw.
This is a solid start to a very fun, page-turning series. It is one of my top recommendations for anyone wanting to test the waters of the "litRPG" subgenre.
Very tongue in cheek story. As a reader of said story, I would like to immerse myself in the magical world the author had built. To do this I have to identify with the Main Character who, sadly, is a bumbling buffoon that uses strength (absurd ?) and luck to get out of nearly every calamity in which he falls. I hope the next 3 books make him slightly more intelligent. I really don’t like to read about foolish meatheads seeking a pond in which to sit and fish.
I had my doubts before I read book one, but really liked that storyline and Montana's rather fumbling-idiot-with-superhero-traits persona. This one got a bit sad in the middle, then REALLY gross and bloody, but Montana has evolved into quite the warrior and hero. Four and a half stars, because - yuk.
Really Kool to see more of a Conan style book where thews maketh the man. So far its a good stand alone book. Hope the series stays that way... Though this is supposedly books one through three. Drat!
I actually read the first of the series earlier this week but decided to leave a review on the first box set. This book was a lot of fun. The pop culture references are very amusing.
I really enjoyed the premise and the world building. Characters were fine and the main character was great. Just stubborn and committed. A bit focused on stats but not a exponential rise. Overall very readable.
I grab this, as a reviewer said it was like “He who fights monsters”. While the style is different it is also well written and a very smooth, entertaing read. Looking forward to reading more from this author
