The Thoughts and Notes on Communication Skills Training...
The speed of communications is wondrous to behold. It is also true that speed can multiply the distribution of information that we know to be untrue. ~Edward R. Murrow
“Communication Skills Training” promises to turn any reader into a charismatic speaker and the life of the party. In practice, it’s another compilation of basic techniques: listen attentively, ask clarifying questions, use people’s names, maintain eye contact. The author’s writing is simple and approachable, making the book useful for beginners just starting to recognize the value of social skills. For readers familiar with even one or two communication guides, the content will feel derivative and predictable. Its strength lies in accessibility and practical value for the most socially anxious. Its weakness is the lack of originality: the advice repeats dozens of other self-help titles, merely repackaged with a fresh cover.
The opening chapters looked like someone was explaining the different types of communication to a child. Explaining what verbal and non-verbal communication was, what listening is and what the (obvious) benefits of listening are. In my befindings the book hasn’t had that great of a start.
Although the book looks like it is written in a somewhat simplified version- by dint of language usage, basic concepts and basic explaining, the book gives a good and uncomplicated anamnesis of previous learned things.
While I do think there are some valuable takeaways in this book some of it was redundant. Also it seems to be geared towards professional career oriented settings rather just close relationships or strangers therefore it wasn’t the book I was looking for. The cover “how to talk to anyone, develop charisma, become a people person” was very misleading as there was less on the how and more on the types of people and communication styles. Also I feel like there was things mentioned I know but I want to know more of how. This book was an easy read. Just took a couple hours to complete.
Not a very dense or hard read at all. This book is a fairly quick one to get through with some good suggestions building rapport and connections with other people. The editing of the spacing of words was a bit distracting at times but other than that it is a good book if you're interested in the basics of communication.
The book is written as a reminder of simple tools to help everyone improve their communication. No new information than the traditional approaches toward the topic of communication, but an easy to go to tool to check if you experience difficulties or challenges in communicating with others
Pensaba que este libro sería el típico de ser tu propio jefe y de cómo convencer a mucha gente para que haga algo. Me equivocaba, claro.
I found the information to be easy to digest and understand. I incorporated these tips and explanations with great results of closing the gap in communication between corporate and plant communication
This book provided me a reminder of how to slow down and listen well. Giving in depth detail of different personalities and how to handle these different personalities in our daily conversations. I will definitely at some point be rereading this book.
This book claims as skill but inside nothing about skills. Just general information that you can find from internet. It is good if you just want to understand
