A Norse farmer crashes into this century from fourteenth-century Scotland. How did it happen? Why did he escape the plague when the rest of his family died? He should have died with them.
Three years later, Lachlann is no closer to the truth. His body has healed. He has a job and a place to lay his head at night. He has even learned a little modern English. If he could just figure out how to go back, he might be able to save his family, save his son. But he still can’t read, is still tormented by throbbing headaches and nightmares. Maybe he died after all. Maybe he’s in hell.
But would there be an angel in hell?
Deidre became a medieval history professor because of a treasured family heirloom, the medieval drawing of a farmer that she loved since childhood. Too bad she couldn’t have married him instead of the lying, vicious cheat who had almost ruined her life. Almost.
With a new life in a new city, she has moved forward. She doesn’t need anyone, especially a man. But she can’t seem to ignore her new neighbour, a gorgeous giant with a strange accent, haunted eyes, and a shocking resemblance to her medieval ploughman.
How can she erase the tormented look in his eyes? If only he would confide in her.
But is she prepared to do the same? To explain how she lost everything – her job, her family, her self-respect – because of her own, poor choices?
And why does she have the feeling that she could lose it all again?
For me, playing is the best -- playing outdoors in nature or in my garden, experimenting in the kitchen, spending time with those I love. I also enjoy disappearing into a good book, attempting crafts, learning, writing, exploring, discovering. I especially like to mix it up and have yet to perfect any of it; and I've come to realize that perfection's not the point. It's all wonderfully fun. That's the point!
My husband and I have been married for over 40 years. We reside near Houston, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. We have a blast with our little grandchildren.
Romance books are not my normal read, but something I try out from time to time. And when I do, I find Anastasia Abboud's books very satisfying, because of her inclusion and handling of cross-cultural issues. In the case of Tremors, this is not only cross-cultural but cross-temporal as well, since the plot is built around time travel. One protagonist belongs to our time, the other to a long-past era of Scottish history. The combination, and the couple's ability to communicate and relate, makes for most enjoyable reading.
The story takes the two protagonists from initial meeting through to commitment, via a number of interruptions. I would have liked more time spent by the couple in Scotland, exploring the time-traveller's origins and birth-culture, but I suspect that may come in the promised sequel. As things stand, much more narrative action takes place in the southern United States, laying a foundation for future events.
It is difficult to say more without giving spoilers away, so suffice to say that I very much enjoyed Tremors. It is unashamedly a romance book, with the details and intricacies of time travel playing a secondary role to the core relationship. If romance isn't your thing, be aware of this before you start! But if you like romance mixed with other cultural and historical flavours, Tremors would be a good read.
One of the best Time Travel Romances you will ever read. Beautifully written, sweet and moving with just the right amount of spice. The story pulls you in and carries you along, and then surprises you with twists and turns when you least expect it! Fall into this one and don't look back - you will be swept away...
From the very first page of Tremors, I was swept away into the mesmerizing world Ms. Abboud created. Though this is a romance story, there is much, much more. Not only do you have the time-travel element (which I love), but also the mystery of how this happened, and the ripple effect on many of the individuals throughout the story.
Lachlann is a tortured man. He’s haunted by past events. I won’t give away any spoilers, but I honestly felt his angst and cried during a couple of the scenes. Deidre had her own secrets and loss, as well. These were two people who had to overcome many obstacles. The twists and turns within the story kept me turning the pages. Ms. Abboud has woven a beautifully written story.
In my humble opinion, this an award-winning masterpiece. Fans of the Outlander series should read this first book in what promises to be an epic time-travel adventure. I’m eagerly anticipating the next book from this talented author.
This is a fun, light romance with time travel. A farmer from 14th century Scotland meets a 21st century medieval history professor. I love the way Ms Abboud describes their relationship. I can feel the touches between them. I can see and feel Lachlann fall back into his flashbacks. The reason for his time travel is actually dealt with in this book. Many books have characters travel but never try to explain it. This one does. Interestingly too.
The one part about the story that isn't light is that he has PTSD. He has nightmares. He has flashbacks much like he does his memories. It's not intense. I don't belive it should be too much of a trigger to anyone slightly sensitive to the topic.
The big part about the book that bothers me is that Lachlann is a Norseman who grew up in Scotland. Deirdre is from North Carolina living in Texas. But there are no accent in the dialog. There is no hesitation from Lachlann, grasping for words. Partway though the book, it's mentioned but I find it very disappointing.
Overall, this book has reminded me how much I like a well written romance. I'll be heading back to this genre more often. I will be looking into more of Ms Abboud's books.
I gave this book 5 stars because I couldn't put it down, wondering what was going to happen next and how it would end. The author is truly a talented writer, creating well-developed characters whose emotions and interactions with each other are very realistic. Descriptions of scenes and locations are vivid and colorful. Obviously the author has thoroughly studied and researched the languages, history, and culture of the locations and periods in which the story takes place. Very Impressive. Personally for me, the love scenes (depicting such amazing superhuman stamina) weren't necessary to catapult this book to greatness. Some things could have been left to the reader's imagination, as far as I was concerned. Nevertheless, the overall reading experience was truly rewarding, a must-read for lovers of time travel/intrigue.
