I first read this as it was serialized on the Manga Plus app, and this series is just so adorable.
The title of this manga series is "Dosanko Gal wa Namara Menkoi" and it is in the Hokkaido dialect. The official English version reads it as"Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable!" Yes, they are indeed.
The story centers around a transplanted Tokyoite Tsubasa, now living in Hokkaido and the first person he ever met in the island, the charming Fuyuki, the eponymous "gal" in the title. The reader gets to experience the many sights and regional specialties with Tsubasa, who serves as the POV character.
Nominally, this series is a romantic comedy, there is undeniable chemistry between the two leads. However, it can pique one's interest about Hokkaido, since it's way different than the usual manga setting in metropolitan Tokyo.
This has become one of my favorite manga series and I eagerly await its first graphic novel collection.
I looked up this manga after watching the episodes of the anime that are currently running this anime season. This manga series is your typical “in love with a gyaru” sort of story. There are the usual tropes that get played up as well but for the most part it’s a typical high school rom com.
The thing that I felt like made it a little different was the fact that it uses its setting to include little factoids about life in Hokkaido and why it is different from life in mainland Japan.
It was entertaining enough to keep me reading the whole series in one day. Would recommend if you are typically into the high school rom com.
Characters are interesting and well written, they have their own lives, personalities and motivation. I dislike how the middle part was there just to prolong the manga, it was always obvious who’s going to win his heart in the end, but I understand how publishing and editing of a successful series works so I won’t blame the author for it too harshly. I don’t mind these setups in general, but unlike in quintessential quintuplets for example this felt pointless because everyone knew how it’s going to end.
Protagonist and the main heroine never felt just like generic self insert characters, even thought that’s how I felt about Tsubasa in the beginning when he played the piano or genuinely tried his best to encourage Sayurin it was sweet and I understood, that he isn’t boring or plain. He’s genuinely sweet and kind hearted.
The ending is perfect, one of the best I’ve ever read, it shows how the main chatters live after the events of the manga and how they still keep in touch. The last 2 chapters positively surprised me and I was glad I finished this manga.
It's difficult to get and manage mangas as they quickly grow to too many volumes so the Manga Plus came as a pleasant surprise now that I have got my tablet I can read mangas on the app much more easily and I am going to enjoy using my tablet fully I am planning on using the tablet as a manga and graphic novels reader and it should do its job without much difficulty. The start of this manga is very good and the art is good the girls sure are adorable nay Super Adorable. So then let's carry on and just Keep on Reading.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
Review for the first four volumes! I already had my eye on this one for a while, I think I saw the anime at least one ep but didn't like the accents/way the characters talked so I gave up. Haha. Thankfully the manga is silent, and thankfully I got MangaPlus so I can read the series. And I have to say I am having oodles of fun. Yes, it is your typical plot, boring male lead who would never get such big opportunities and then gets the hottest girl(s). But you know, for once I didn't mind. The gal/girls were so much fun and I loved their different personalities. Minami is definitely my favourite (she is so cute and adorable) and I am definitely shipping her with Tsubasa (who is also stepping up a bit as the story continues). I love all the events happening throughout the 4 volumes. From a kimono date to Valentine's Day to karaoke to fishing to skiing, and more! There is never a dull moment. Plus, I love love the fun facts about Hokkaido we get at each chapter + what the characters tell us in the chapters. Oh, and Minami's mom is fab, fang-tan forever! And I Love that the art is improving, at first the proportions were off, but now they are much better. Just one thing, meh to grandma. I hope she learns to chill/relax a bit, because LORD ><.
Just finished reading Vol.1-13 and can't believe it's finally over.
"I came to Hokkaido and I met you, and I've been happy ever since" - I'm thankful it finally ended. From seeing Tsubasa and Minami go from friends to lovers to then married with their own family 🥲 then having their child grow up n get married too.
I also haven't seen the anime but overall this was a decent one-time read. Ngl, some parts were slow and it felt like a drag. However, in terms with the ending chapters, it was a nice montage of fast-forward that I kinda hoped the earlier chapters had followed that type of pacing besides it being alot of filler.
