I wouldn’t be a woman if I pretended that everything was rosy or peach-colored.
Some stuff is gray and crimson red.
I wouldn’t be a woman…
If I acted like I didn’t know all that I know….
I’ve been knocked down and tripped up.
Tricked and Bamboozled
I’ve done the tricking and bamboozling
Been in the dirt a couple of times
All’s I’m saying is…my slip ain’t white.
It ain’t real clean,
it’s a little brown, and I’m just fine with that.
"Brownslip, A Loose Woman’s Memoir” clips the ropes and breaks the chains of misconceptions of what being a free woman means by sharing the headspace of a woman trapped and her determination to escape past trauma, domestic abuse, misogyny, and self-hate. "Brownslip" reveals hidden whispers of women and hushed secrets by narrating stories of hardship, heartache, triumph, and body positivity through poetry, prose, and short stories. "Brownslip, A Loose Woman's Memoir" is a self-love anthem for every Black Woman who has struggled with self-acceptance and becoming unapologetically "loose".
I love discovering new poets in facebook comment sections, and I really enjoyed this poetry style memoir from Ms. Lotus. She also has a podcast that I recommend as well.
