Two arduous journeys. One physically demanding, the other emotionally exhaustive. The young Dragon King faces both simultaneously and shoulders the burden with the strength and resolve only the King of Shifters can muster. With limited resources and only a month to prepare, Alister Drake, the new King of all shifters, calls on the loyalty, expertise and support of his dedicated Inner Circle to prepare a battle plan. His goal—to return to Theria and wrest the kingdom from Dimitri; murderer, usurper and oppressor of the masses. Haunted, yet inspired, by dreams of his royal parents, Alister believes they are still alive, despite reports of their deaths at the hands of Dimitri thirteen years before. Aware of Alister's plans to retake the throne of Theria, Dimitri lies in wait with an army of thousands, determined to crush and humiliate the inexperienced boy king. Ruling the land with fear and coercion, Dimitri has no conscience when it comes to harming anyone in his quest for power. Two powerful shifters, both intent on destroying the other. One will stop at nothing to reach his goal with death and destruction. The other will stop at nothing to… Protect the Weak!
Fun, adventure, friendship and loyalty, integrity, commitment and perseverance, and above all, do the right thing - all themes beautifully interwoven into a tale that will keep any middle-grader at the edge of his seat.
This was even better than the first in series. And my kid's reaction when he reached the end?
"I want book 3 now! Alister and the guys are great!"
Book two of the Dragonborn series picks up where book one left off and it is action all the way. Leading his band of loyal friends and followers into battle, King Alistair is plagued by dreams of his long-dead parents and wonders if it is possible they still live. Not aimed at my age group, I could still enjoy and appreciate the writing and, If I were many years younger, or had a child to read to, this series would be high on my list of favourites.
Promoting the qualities of friendship, loyalty, commitment to a cause, and simply doing the right thing, this is more than just your typical YA fantasy. Delivering a subtle message wrapped up within the plot, this read packs a powerful punch.
Well-written and beautifully imaginative with more than a passing nod to the Chronicles of Narnia, this is an entertaining and magical read for ages twelve and over.
Pretty good. I like how it continued the story that begun in Awakening while setting up the conflict for the third book, but I do have some feedback. I feel the dreams/visions of An'Ceann were a little forced in order to make this allergorical like Narnia; I would have liked to see a little more buildup to the face-to-face interactions and the fact that everyone knew who he was before Alister had the dream. While the grammar and formatting did improve from the first book, there were still a few comma splices and fragments throughout, which made it a little hard to read.
Dragonborn continues! We follow Alister on a journey to defeat a man who has taken over the kingdom unjustly. Alister surrounds himself with those he trusts and they train in preparation. We meet more characters, even touching on the subject of racism briefly, and find the driving force for Alisters moral compass. He is a character much like Aslan in Narnia and he guides Alister through conflict. The story is full of adventure, humor, loyalty, perseverance, commitment, integrity and more. While the main characters are 18, it still has the feel of a JF novel and will appeal to all ages. Check my blog for the content review, and order the book or kindle right from there.
Alister and his team’s adventures through the dimensions continue in this awesome second installment of the Dragonborn books! Complex characters and imaginative world-building make this story rich and inviting. Subtle life lessons for kids and adults alike endear this book to the reader. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure!
We finished Awakening on our road trip. Thankfully, we brought the next book, Return. This was action packed. My teens and I had a hard time putting it down as did my seventy year old mother, but we had to so we could enjoy all the National Parks we stopped at. We finished this book quickly and are ready for the next one; however, I didn't bring it on our road trip. Something to look forward to when we return 😀
