Carved In Stone

Rate this book
It’s their first attempt

Safe Haven is going to try making a permanent settlement in the mountains of Georgia and every soul there is ready for the break. They’ve traveled for more than nine months, with few stops. Now, they can finally quit living from trucks and try to rebuild what they’ve lost.

Except…

Bad things are coming. Safe Haven thinks they’ve endured the worst the apocalypse has to offer, but they’ve actually been lucky. That’s about to change and all the descendants on the planet can’t stop it. Magic is nearly powerless against the effects of a nuclear war and the entire camp must make a choice: Do we stand or do we run?

(Series through Book 8)

First I would like to say I enjoyed the series. The idea of a group of people (Safe Haven) traveling across a post-war USA, fighting blood-thirsty Mexican bandits (slavers), radiologically-infected half Zombies, and a nature that wants back what has been taken from her kept my attention through the eight books. The author did push my imagination with witchcraft, unrealistic logistics, and relationships that stretched normal conventions, but I didn't have a problem keeping up with the characters.

Now, all that being said I was extremely annoyed with hundreds of simple typographic errors, the use of incorrect terms/words, non-contiguous plot shifts, and a general lack of simple copy editing. So there you have it. Enjoy the series, ignore all the errors and you'll have a good read.

This was another complex and detailed instalment of this massive apocalyptic story. Angela has a huge task, her gifts also a curse. Will Safe Haven ever be safe? Unfortunately, there's always danger lurking. The descendants are intriguing, while nature is disgruntled at human behaviour and other animals gather to fight.

Thoughts and feelings are an important part to this story and gave even further depth to the tale, the plot and the atmosphere.

There were battles galore alongside betrayal, twists and surprises.

A lengthy episode but worth reading.

Carved Stone and broken lives. NO SPOILERS.

Book six of Angela White’s “Life After War” is amazing. Much has changed and yet nothing is different.
The herd is growing and so is evil. Winter, a long nuclear one is just ahead. The cave is complete but the herd is not ready to live underground.

I love Angela White's writing. No matter what the story is it does not take away from her talent as a writer. Carved in stone is not a battle story but is very good in detaitailing the characters so you get to know them better. This book is part of a great series. You really do not want to miss this series.

I didn't realize there's still two more books bought the series just getting through it. There is some interesting stuff in it but its rather long on things that don't need to know.

A fascinating read

Though I truly enjoyed the storyline, it appears that each book in the series is in greater need of a good editor than the one before. As an English teacher, I cringed at every word error, and there were many. Ms. White certainty knows how to build a compelling story, but the woeful editing and lack of careful revision make it impossible for her to enter the ranks of best selling authors.

War extends to dealing with the changes in the physical world as well as
fighting and or incorporating new surviving smaller groups. More permanent domicile is being developed to protect against the more destructive weather in the coming winter. This was more interesting to me because the Safe Haven levels of leadership developed enabling extraordinarily ingenuity in design and execution are more evident. This was better than Book 7.

The story continues

Angela and Mark have forged a community which might survive and reintroduce humankind to a destroyed world. The Eagles, trained killers subjected to rigid self discipline by their own choice, are guardian angels for this one group of survivors, protecting them as they all become more competent at surviving.

White continues to tell the story of Safe Haven.

This book continues the story of Safe Haven. The story is full of twists and turns that will keep you entwined in the lives of the men and women who are trying to rebuild this country after the most devastating war man has ever known.

Better

After reading the book before this, I was nervous about this one being as bad as last. But it was obvious early on that time was taken to write this book. It was great and up to the amazing standards that Angela White set in the first books. Great writing and characters are more flushed out.

I've been reading the entire series and I am completely engrossed in the story. My only issue is number of grammatical errors in the later books (ebooks). It takes away from the story a bit for me. Even with all of the errors, I absolutely have been sucked into the storyline and cannot wait for the next installment.
