A missing child draws Deputy Daniel Clark into a bizarre investigation that leaves him questioning what he just witnessed. Trained to trust his instincts and to pay close attention to detail, his rational brain is at war with what he has seen. Something very strange is happening in rural Sloan County, Missouri. Having just returned from a vacation in Branson, MO, this book did more than just bring chills to my skin! I was so fascinated that I read this in one sitting, spending my Friday morning and part of the afternoon curled in my recliner with my little dog on my lap refusing to get up for anything less than a bathroom trip or a coffee refill. I have just listed D.A.Roberts as one of.my favorite authors ever!!!
I will think "twice" before camping in and around Branson. MO.
This was an intense book to read, found it hard to put down after my "breaks" at work. It also was quite graphic in its "horror and gore" factor have me a few nightmares!!
This story grabs the reader and doesn’t let go! I couldn’t put it down until the very last page! For those who believe Bigfoot is a gentle creature you need to wake up and smell the stench of a true monster! I’ve always believed that Bigfoots are real and I’ve believed them to be opportunistic predators who will kill humans and eat them. If you consider all the unsolved disappearances of people in wilderness areas. I have to admit I was raised in the outdoors and used to love hiking in the woods and camping as well as hunting. But since I began researching Bigfoot I won’t ever camp out again. No hunting alone either. Once you really research and find out that there are so many campers that go missing every year from national parks all over the US and Canada you become afraid of the woods. Good job by the author of the book to make the outdoors even more terrifying!!!
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. The author is an amazing writer. I'm definitely going to continue reading his books. Once you start this book you are definitely hooked. I am not good at writing reviews and can only say, if you enjoy a book that you simply ca nnot put down, this is it.Of course you may have trouble going for an evening stroll near the woods after.
Love the characters and the story, the author play with emotions in humans and beasts in equal measure. The Clark and Sanchez binomial with his friends work to stop a deadly predator in their area.
The predator is fearless until find that the little bodies can hurt back... can't wait to read the next book, although I already read all the series of Major Daniel Clark. Highly Recommended
Kids, this Bigfoot is not Harry Henderson! Fast moving, superior characters, and lots of Sasquatches!! DA Roberts has cornered the market in Squatch-talk. Exceptional fire power, police with full respect! I can't wait to read more of this Bad-Ass-Author!! Dudes, get the book! #LocknLoad #takenoprisoners #5*****EpicFiction #orisit
When I read a novel about Bigfoot I put it in the same category as Godzilla and King Kong. Not this book. The author has done an amazing amount of research and has added Law Enforcement and Military to the mix. The action is breathtaking and the suspense never quite. I'm keeping this book and buying the next one. Bravo Zulu Mr Roberts.
Excellent book! Can't get enough of Mr.Roberts books. The characters are great, the monsters, even better. Mr.Roberts story's may very well make you think twice, about things that go bump in the night!
If I could rate it any lower I would. the writing is chunky and when I say hard to read, I don’t mean in the content I mean the fact that it was definitely a badly thought out self insert. The margins, the incomplete sentences, I’ve never felt such a rage towards a book. Had to DNF for my emotional stability.
2.5 overall. I enjoyed the first half of the book very much, and then it lost me. There was a lot of action, which I enjoyed. The characters were very flat, and the plot was super thin. I did finish it, but did not really care what happened by the end.
I started reading the Apex Predator series a few years back (I really need to get back to it) and didn’t realize when I picked this book up it was by the same author. I really enjoyed it! And being only a few hours from the Ozarks as I live in Iowa and I’be been down there plenty growing up it was a nice twist close to home so to speak. The creatures habits and the surprise in the end were great. Plus being ex-military and always enjoying a cop hero in my stories made it even better. And the weapons weren’t not blown out of proportion or unbelievable was even better. Very good attention to detail. I highly recommend and am already grabbing the next book in the series.
Seems that I picked up the series in the wrong order, starting with what I believe to be book #4 and then book #5 before screwing my head on straight and reading this book which I’ll call the first of the series. Enjoyable pulp fiction/creature feature reading at its heart and not in the pre teen vampires/werewolves are misunderstood, dignified , looking for their place in this world of ignorance immortals. Another Good vs Bad and stacking bodies good read from D.A Roberts.
DNF. The synopsis and reviews had me intrigued but this was not for me. I was listening to the audiobook and the voice narrator was awful. He was monotone and emotionless. He sounded like he was practicing and wasn’t used to narrating an audiobook. The story sounded good, but the dialogue was basic and thin. At times, it felt very juvenile and pre-pubescent. The way the book described all of the guns and tactical gear was extra and just weird. It felt very gun nut and pro cop. No one needs to hear all of that. The flirtatious banter between Sanchez and Clark was cringe. 😬 I was hoping the book would somehow get better but it did not.
Man, I really was enjoying the story, it started off good, then I think at the half way point it got boring, and the relationship between Clark and Sanchez, and Konrad I think was weird, cringe is a very apt word for Sanchez behavior. Then we got all the over explaining when it came to the guns and the target practice, ugh, I have to say that and the relationship between Clark and Sanchez, is what made me rate so low, why couldn't they have just stayed friends, if they weren't together, it would have been better.
Novel about local sheriff deputies fighting Bigfoot in the Table Rock Lake area in Missouri. This is a separate series that is part of the “Apex Predator: Blood Moon” series from the same author. It isn’t necessary to have read that series first, but it probably would be better (I haven’t read the Apex Predator series not knowing about this being tied to it, but I really didn’t feel like I loss too much by not having done so.)
This is the first book I read from this autor and let me tell you that I really enjoyed it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. The story is fresh, interesting and really fun! The ending... I wasn't expecting that! Amazing job! If you like horror acción this is definitely a must read.
Child abduction by a large hairy man starts Sheriff Deputy Daniel Clark and Corporal Amanda Sanchez on an case out of their worst nightmare. Bigfoot in the Ozarks. I liked the book except for the language would have been 5 Stars if not for that.
Great read ! If you love action with full background and great characters you will love this book.
The book keeps you thinking and engrossed in the story. The characters are easy to relate to and the action is realistic and keeps you going until the end.
I like his writing style. Nice flow, good characters. A few minor grammical errors but nothing major. Nice story lines assuming you like a good old fashion monster book. I will read more by this author.
I wasn’t able to stop reading. Literally I started Friday night and finished Saturday morning. What a deeply thought out plot and story. Can’t wait to read the second one!
Quite enjoyed this Bigfoot story. Lots of action that starts right away and doesn't stop until the end. One thing that was a bit annoying was the heavy focus on the weaponry. Didn't turn me off from reading the book, it just got a little tiring. Other than that great read!
It kept me in suspense from the first page until the last. I couldn't stop reading it and had to finish it in one sitting without putting it down. I would recommend this to anyone interested in this type of creatures.
Essentially the prequel to the Wild Hunt series. Not required, but worth a read. And yes, I did buy the rest of the connected books, and you probably should too.
Another awesome book by D.A. Roberts. I wasn’t sure what to expect from. Bigfoot story, but boy was I hooked. My favorite thing about this story is how characters from his other books crossover. I’m on to the next book.
