Garrett Jameson has a bit of a problem. The war may be over, the Wall may have been conquered, but his little problem? That ticking time bomb just got bigger. And her name is Cassandra Roe. She's got mossy green eyes that shoot right into you, a body that begs to be stared at, and absolutely no memory of her past... A past that the two of them share. A past that includes lies, betrayal and a whole heap of violence. But Jameson's not that man anymore. He's well-respected now. He's Uriah Linfield's second in command, a powerful soldier, a trusted friend. And he'd prefer to stay that way. He doesn't want to get sucked back into what happened. He doesn't want to re-live it, and he certainly doesn't want to tell her about it. So when Cass keeps showing up at his door, begging for answers with those eyes of hers, Jameson should be sending her away. He should slam the door in her face, but he just can't help himself. After all, they do have history, and Cass has always been impossible for him to ignore. So instead of sending her packing, Jameson crosses every line he ever set for himself. He opens the door wider, he steps aside and he lets that ticking time bomb make herself comfortable on his living room couch. Only time will tell when the damn thing explodes... and the damage it will do? He can't even begin to think about it. Author's This is Book 4 in a connected series, please start with Book 1 (Outlasting After) first... otherwise, enjoy ;)
LK has done it again. I started reading this book and while I first was hesitant about the main characters changing (let’s be real, we were all attached to Hannah, Cole, and Liam) it quickly sucked me in just like the rest of the books. Learning more and more about Cass and Garrett’s past was enticing and kept me turning pages well into the night. Their back story wasn’t complex per se but it has a lot of twists and turns that keep the reader captivated throughout the book.
There is romance in the air at The Wall. Also misunderstandings, grief and unrequited feelings. I love how the story glides along then sprints for a bit. Breathtaking and thoroughly enjoyable. There are new, newish and old characters to see in a different light as their world keeps on turning. Hitch a ride, you know you want to!!!
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This book is just as good as the first three, even though it now focuses on another couple.
We have seen Jamison in the previous book as the right hand man of the guy now in charge at the wall. In the last book he told us the woman he wanted was Cass. Now he get his chance.
Nine months later Cass still does not have her memory back, but suddenly she starts getting flash backs and it is Jamison that is there for her.
Cass is a strong woman and a good character loved that she did not seem weak at all.
Loved the connection and the chemistry between the pair along with the constant twists an turns as the series continues on. Loved the surprise at the end and the fact that we are going to have another book in the series featuring Davey and Mia. Davey certainly needs a happy ending.
Emotionally suspenseful, edge of your seat LK Magill has once again woven a utterly immersing novel with her fourth book in the Outlasting Series, Breaking Before. Delving into the past from Jameson’s perspective was enthralling and he was captivating. Cass was enticing and engaging as she navigated life without her memory. This book with it’s multiple plots was as emotionally deep as it was action driven. Former characters play significant roles throughout which made Jameson and Cass’s story all the more intriguing. I absolutely love how this author blends the past with the present in just the right way at just the right time. Overall, a very well written post apocalyptic romance with steam, action, drama, a promise of more to come as well as an HEA for Cass and Jameson. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
I really enjoyed the book. Like the 3 earlier books, there was plenty of storyline and plot twists. It wasn't as dramatic as book 1, but it was also good. I liked Jameson and Cass as a couple, but I wished there was a chance for them to shine more with their relationship. I thought for sure Magill would throw me another cliffhanger, but this time, we get to see a HEA at the end of the book for this one couple. I was happy for the couple and for my brain, as I usually end up going WTF at the end, but a part of me also missed the cliffhangers.
I enjoyed the first three books in the Outlasting series about an incredible imaginative post apocalyptic world. I looked forward to reading the 4th book in the series. Breaking Before did not disappoint. The author’s exceptional character development continued to be on display as she created a believable sexual tension between Jameson and Cass. This kept me engrossed in the book as I wanted to know how their relationship would develop. This book has drama, mystery, romance and more. I highly recommend this series.
Book four in the Outlasting Series a well written story with a great storyline, I would say read the books in order. Garrett James and Cassandra Roe's story of suspense, a surprise, drama, danger. and romance. I hope there is more to come in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Breaking Before is the fourth book in the Outlasting Series and is an interesting read.
The characters are well developed and have a past together. The storyline is well written and intriguing, with memory loss, deception, danger, action, and romance.
