Nightworld Academy #1-3

Nightworld Academy Box Set: Terms One - Three

Rate this book
This box set includes the first three full-length books in the bestselling NIGHTWORLD ACADEMY series.

Welcome to the Nightworld Academy, attended by vampires, shifters, and witches. A place filled with harmony and mutual respect between the supernatural races. Sometimes.

I'm Maeve Foster, the weird girl whose disturbing visions drive her increasingly mad. My behaviour became too challenging, so I'm shipped off to the Nightworld Academy to spend time with other troubled teens.

Troubled vampire, witch, and shifter teens.

Somebody forgot to give me the memo—I'm a witch.

On the plus side, I now have friends who don't think I'm crazy.

There's Ash, the rugby team captain and the academy's most popular guy, who just happens to be a shifter.

Then there's Andrei, the moody guy with a bad attitude who takes pleasure in annoying me—oh, and he's a blood-drinking vampire tempted by taboo witch blood.

My quirky witch roommate Amelia takes me under her wing, as does her friend Jamie, the studious and friendly witch who's by my side when I need him.

Add in my confusing pull towards the mysterious and hot Professor Whitlock, and I'm in trouble.

I'm thrust into a world where potions lessons and academy games are fraught with rivalry, and where the Dominion insurgents join forces with the exiled Blackwood witches to take on the corrupt Confederacy council.

My powers are more potent than anybody expected and I discover I'm a pawn in a war between the Confederacy and Dominion. My bond to the four guys grow, and I'll need to rely on each of them to help me navigate my new life. But forbidden relationships and unusual magic bonds make this life twice as complicated

If you love a fierce heroine who learns to accept her life, delicious guys who love and protect her, and an academy world filled with magic, mystery, romance and danger, scroll up and one-click to start the series today. This series is a slow burn YA/NA reverse harem.

Not what I thought it was going to be

I was enthralled by the description of the Nightworld Academy series and happy I could get all three books in one I started the series tonight and about 100 pages in I just had to give up. The story starts off rather strong with the FMC having a brawl at school with another student. She’s reprimanded and sent to a “boarding school” for people with “problems”. Her initial take on the school isn’t terrible, her guide seems friendly and kinda hot, the headmistress nice enough. But then the writing starts going off. So many Sedona make sense. The storyline jumps from one thing to another, half plots eluded to, the charges supposed to be 18 I think and her conversations with other students seem immature. And the book goes on to reveal a rather big secret about the FMC in a way that doesn’t seem well constructed. The entire book I’ve read so far reads like someone just sat down and started throwing ideas onto a page and said here’s a book. It’s hard to follow because it jumps around, and so many Harry Potter references makes it read like the FMC is middle school aged. Idk, it was hard to get into, the wrong not very sophisticated and the broken story line is really off putting. Hate to give 1 star but it is what it is. Off to find my next great read.

I read all of these books as they were released.

Term 1

I greatly enjoyed this book. This is not a bully book, as we have only one person to really dislike. Maeve has always had visions of the future, but as she was living in the human world she learned to keep them to herself. Telling people about them just got her a stint in the loony bin and who needs that? When she takes steps to stop a bully from accidentally killing another student, steps that involved a physical altercation to keep said bully from being with the intended target, she was expelled from her high school. Her parents enrolled her in a private school recommended by her mother's aunt, and so the weirdness begins.

I am not going to tell you the story, as the book will do that just fine, but it involves witches, shifters, and several types of vampires (who knew there was more than one type?). Maeve's visions will play a huge part, and she will find herself attracted to more than one of the male students. Huh. The ending will leave you saying bad words as you now HAVE to read the next book. I am now eagerly awaiting Term 2.

Term 2

Just when Maeve thought she had stopped Jamie from dying she got another vision that showed that she was wrong. Now he is determined to do something to protect himself, even if it means using unsanctioned magic to do it. Maeve wants him to feel safe, but she doesn't want him to end up in Ravenhold like Amelia's boyfriend, Matt. Maeve and Ash are growing closer, and Andrei is still running hot and cold. Maeve is not sure she can trust Tobias, though he seems to have kept them out of trouble from the Halloween fiasco. Maeve's visions grow ever more confusing and she is worried about her future after a meeting with her aunt who is no longer sure what is past, present, and future. The Winter Ball will end with a bang, and a body dump at the Academy gates.

Term 3

Shoot. Now I have to wait for the next one to get another Andrei fix. Maeve and her friends are back in the thick of things with Maeve having confusing visions of the future, Jamie trying to find a way to protect himself from being killed, Ash having his brother back (the brother who hates witches!), Andrei trying to keep an eye on Maeve without getting too close, Amelia wanting to get her boyfriend Matt out of Ravenhold, and Tobias being his usual confusing self. The action never stops. The ending will leave you cursing as you will have to wait to see what will happen now that the entire academy is in an uproar over a witch's death.

This box set has been pretty good. It's a bit slow going at times, but it's still a good story. It has a good plot, some mystery thrown in, and angsty teenagers / young adults who can't seem to decide what they want or how they're feeling.

Maeve has been to doctors, hospitals, treatment centers, therapists, and specialists throughout her young life to try to figure out why she has "seizures" and hallucinations. After an incident where she saves a kid at her school from being severely injured by a bully she saw in a vision sees her expelled, her estranged aunt pays her tuition for a specialized private school. She's miserable at first, then is stunned when she eventually learns that the strange school is actually an academy for witches, vampires, and shifters - all of which she assumed (as most humans do) were fiction. On top of which... she's a witch.

While at the academy, she learns the hard way about the Dominion - an extremist group who wants the supernaturals to reveal themselves to the world and take over, hunters - humans who know about the supernatural and want to take them out, and the Confederacy - the supernaturals who try to keep order and remain a secret from humans.

She has visions that she tries to prevent and others that don't make much sense to her. She has special one on one lessons with a couple of professors, but as time goes on, it's clear that not everyone is who they may appear to be, and not everyone has the best intentions. Maeve and her friends need to learn who they can trust before danger comes to claim them.

If you wanted spice in this book, you aren't going to get it. Page 845(ish) is the first "spicy" scene, and it's pretty YA (which I didn't realize this series apparently was until I finished this box set). There's no details in the moment. Amazon didn't categorize this series as YA. Otherwise, I might have skipped it. That said, it's actually still a good story, so I don't regret it. It's a nice change of pace from books that almost have TOO many detailed "spicy" scenes.

Also, a teeny tiny inconsistency I found: Each house has their own colour. The witches (including Maeve) are blue. Later on in this set, it says she's wearing her house colour, green. Not a biggie!

If you're looking for an academy RH read that has a plot and not feeling too much heat, you'll enjoy this! (There's also a student / professor relationship!)

Since this was a boxed set, I figured I review the three of them together.

I honestly had mixed feelings for this set. I thought the concept was interesting, definitely enough to keep me invested for all three books, but not necessarily enough to make me pursue the rest of the books in the series. I was drawn by the aspect of a slowburn magic academy RH book because I love a good slowburn, but honestly this didn’t really give the best buildup for some of the love interests listed in the synopsis.

I absolutely adored the dynamic between Maeve and Andrei. The misfits bonding and broody guy who just really needs a friend or someone to care for him will always pull me in. He was equal parts chaotic and distant but truly caring toward Maeve even when he tried to keep his distance.

The idea of Jamie being a love interest, on the other hand, really irritated me. Kid was very much on a self-destructive path and was honestly a jerk for a majority of the scenes that he was in. Maeve was really interesting to watch develop for a majority of her scenes, but the moment Jamie came in the picture, she reverts to a people-pleasing, begging-for-scraps damsel trying to cater to his feelings. It didn’t read like a good love interest scenario to me.

Ash’s struggle with overcoming ingrained prejudices and the issues with his family was completely understandable and an interesting dynamic, but honestly he came off more as a friend vibe for Maeve rather than love interest despite the fact he tries openly dating her first.

And the professor. Okay so I love the Lance Orion scenario for ZA. This seemed like a forced version of what that achieved. Like it came off a bit weird, for lack of a better term. Some scenes for, I think, book 2 (they started blending together to be honest) were good building moments, and book 3 had some complicated yet interesting moments, but I don’t know. I’m a bit conflicted about that setup.

All this to say, it was a nice easy read with both pros and cons. I am thankful that it helped ease me out of my slump and I did enjoy the world created as well as some of the characters. I did really enjoy the mythos created with multiple types of vampires, shifters and witches. It made for a fascinating take on a commonly used supernatural base. Had it not been for the Maeve/Andrei dynamic and the interesting take on mythos, this probably would’ve been a 2-star for me.

If you’re looking for a magic academy read, try it out. While it may not have fully worked for me, it may for you.

Very intense

Very intense read. Lots of intrigue. Lots of twists and turns. I couldn’t put these books down. It was so good, I read the entire box set straight through with only a four hour nap interrupting.

Witches, all kinds of shifters and, three kinds of vampires. Add in a witch raised as human who can see the future and, you have a setting where anything can happen.

Oh, did I forget to mention romance? Yes, that’s included also! Very well written with a good plot. I recommend anyone interested in any of the above genres, give this series a try. I promise you will love it!

I both really enjoyed and hated this series. Like I know the main characters are teens, but they continue to make one bad decision after the other. I also don't like the FMC, but I'm trusting that the author is going to mature her in the next set. It's not often that there's a slowburn why choose and I think that it's really well done. Overall, I think the bad outweighed the good on this set, BUT I'm looking forward to reading the next set and seeing if the characters become more likeable(I'm not talking about my baby Andrei❤️).

continuity…

End of book three is where there is bedroom time. Before book three there wasn’t even a kiss.

This is really slow burn.

Continuity: book three mentions how she’s “only been there a couple of weeks” however according to the timeline, we have passed Halloween and Christmas and term breaks. So unless the terms are only a week each, this doesn’t make any sense.

This plot line is going in all directions.
Reading on to see what comes in term 4 (are there seriously no final exams or something? The timeline confuses me!)

Sooo drawn out

The story line is there but these books are not it. The FMC is whiney, judgmental, and just not a good read. The MMCs were so confusing in one breath they are wanting to put distance between them and in the next breath they are worried they missed their chance 🙄 The book is slllloooooooooowwwww. I honestly stopped reading and didn’t want to finish sooo many times, hoping that it would get better. It didn’t.

I gave 3 ⭐️ because the idea is there and it has potential

Better as the series goes on

The first book was just okay. It was slow paced and I really didn't like the MC because she was rude and judgemental. At the very end of book 1 she seems to start to accept who she is so I gave the second book a shot. Books 2+3 are worth getting through book 1. There is definitely character growth and I like how all the relationships are developing. I'll definitely be continuing the series.

Hooked from the getgo!

What a great series! I am sorta picky with Academy books, but this series sucked me right in. I loved the world building and the characters had so much more depth than in a lot of books I have read. I couldn't stop, I kept telling myself 'just 1 more page' till there was nothing left and the sun was coming up. I highly reccomend giving it a chance.

Binge read

Having read the three books at their release, it is great to be able to binge Nightworld Terms One through Three. Maeve, Andrei, Ash, Jamie and Tobias fight prejudice, exclusion, lies, betrayal and secrets as they begin to come together as a unit. Highly recommend this solid 4.5 star box set. Off to binge Terms Four through Six :)

A witch Nancy Drew

I'm glad this is available as a box set. The intrigue is what kept me going, but I found the world building to be fast and abrupt which did make the first book (term) a confusing read. It's very much a teen romance (relationship development not spice development)

Knocked it out in two days

This is one of those RH Academy stories that suck me in, and I thoroughly enjoyed this world. Love the characters, the blooming romances, and the mystery set up in Terms One-Three. This cliffhanger has hooked its claws, and I need to know what happens next.

Well, how can you go wrong with a magical academy with shifters, vampires and witches - this book has all the ways to go wrong. Weird flat characters, no follow through from said characters. It’s not good.

Going through my lists I can see that I do not enjoy this author so, despite the write ups always sounding decent, this is not an author for me.

Nightworld Academy

Nightworld Academy box set 1 includes terms 1-3. The story is interesting with a small smidgin of heat. Having witches, shifters and vampires all in the same academy makes the story more intense.

what a ride

This first installment really kept me reading. You never know who to trust or who is who they say they are. If you like shifters, vampires and witches, you’ll love these YA books.

Excellent read

This series has a lot of ups and downs, and twists and turns. You feel for the characters because of the different things that happened to keep them together.
The secrets are a little bit much. They are hard to keep straight.
I'm looking forward to reading more.

good read but drawn out too long

It was a good read but it was drawn out too much. The 3rd book ends on a cliffhanger and there are so many questions at the end of the book. I’m probably not going to read the others. My attention has shifts because of how long it’s taken.

What a wonderful book. I really like shifters and all that at 1 academy. And of course we have shifters that we don't like. But that doesn't bother as much as with a bully romance in comparison.
