Cain’s Shield is broken into two pieces, hidden in the land of the Fae and the world of the rebel magicians. It’s the one thing that could restore the shifters’ ability to transform into their wolves.
Time for me to fix my mistakes…
But it’s no easy mission ahead of us. Tyson will need to embrace his Fae roots to bring us through their world alive. And in the land of rebel magicians, we’ll need to save Silas’ friends—and face down a corrupt government—in order to bring home the shield. It all sees impossible.
But with Rafe and Lex about to graduate the academy, this mission is also our one chance to prove my men and I belong together. No one else wants to work with the female wolf, the wizard from another world, the rejects from their packs. The Alpha Council is willing to consider keeping us together.
We’re not just a family now, after all. We’re a team. We belong together.
OMG this latest book in this awesome series had me on the edge of my seat the whole read! Action packed there’s tons of twists and turns, secrets are revealed and decisions made, will they survive the land of the fae and stay together or won’t they? It’s one hell of a rollercoaster journey that I really don’t want to end as I love the characters especially Maddie! This is a great series that I would definitely recommend!
May Dawson has delivered yet another fantastic installment in the lives of Maddie and her men.
The book picks up three months after the "incident" with the Dark Collar and it does have a recap to bring everything together and catch you up. We finally get Maddie and Rafe together in this book which has been a long time coming and it does not disappoint!
In this book of the series, the team has a mission to go into Fae in search of Cain's shield. The shield is supposed to have the power to counteract the magic that was used with the Collar. All they have to do is get the half that's in Fae without the courts knowing. It's supposed to be in and out, no interaction with the natives, quick and easy mission (but nothing ever goes to plan). The team finds themselves captured by the Spring Fae and taken to their keep. Not all Fae hate shifters/humans though and the team must decide who to trust. Meanwhile, Tyson has gradually come to terms with the fact he is half-Fae, but will he be able to handle what that means?
The relationships in the team, both as a group and individually has grown throughout the series. May Dawson has also kept it real by showing that relationships are hard; love and happiness are just two components to them and she shows the parts that we forget. She makes it real by showing the sad times, the doubts and fears are there for all to read and it is what makes this group of characters so loveable and relatable.
I absolutely loved this book and recommend it to everyone! It is a series and it needs to be read in order to fully appreciate it as a warning. The characters are great, the story is original, it's action-packed, and the wit/banter in it is top marks. Anyone that is a fan of magic, Fae, shifters, and witches owe it to themselves to read this series! YOu will not be disappointed
Big happenings in this book. Definitely makes it hard to see how the team/pack will find themselves back together never mind getting lost in the greyworld. The Fae world building and side plot was really interesting and glad the author went into more detail there where it could have been shortened for the sake of the overall story. But I enjoyed it and the learning about Ty’s heritage. This next and last book will be the hardest I bet to wrap up such a huge story. Looking forward to it, though!
Now that Rafe and Lex are graduating our group is bracing for change. Then comes an offer to stay together they can't refuse. First the must retrieve the two halves of the Sheild of Cane. This involves a trip to the far world which is a real doozy to say the least. Full of twists, turns, magic, and surprises to keep you hooked until the very surprising ending. A must read! I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
May Dawson has a tendency to weave multiple plot points into one narrative, yet Their Shifter Academy takes that notion to the extreme - though they all seem to meld into one cohesive picture that is ALMOST becoming clear.
Book 5 starts with a recap (thank god - trust me, you're going to need it, unless you are binger, then skip!) and picks up 3 months after the Dark Collar worked its insidious magic. The remnants of the Day is still gunning for them, familial connections are still murky, political machinations are still grinding and emotions... well, those are still churning. It's all a huge mess, but there is something that MIGHT be able to fix it, at least one aspect of it - Cain's Shield. Fabled artifact and future savior, the group now has to venture to Fae, find its broken pieces, and restore what was stolen from the wolves.
Whew! This is an INTENSE series! I honestly don't know who, or what I am cheering for from chapter to chapter. Tyson is still one of my favorites, idiot though he may be, and since Book 4 cleared up the mess with Lex, he's high on my love list. But Rafe? That man has been a goal for Maddie since the first snarl and I can't help but love him, and love how he has stuck tight to his convictions. But graduation is here, and that means he is out of excuses - and the readers are in for a heated time. *squee!* And Silas... oh Silas. Chase, Jensen, Penn.... ok, ALL of them. I just love all of them. And this book reminds me why.
I thought book 5 was going to be the end of this series, but no, things are still dicey and mysteries remain, namely - the Greyworld.
*I received an ARC of this book and am thrilled to share my honest opinion*
Perspective First Person, Multiple POV
Ending Type Not quite a cliffhanger, but not quite episodic. There's obviously more to come, but your heart won't hurt.

My Final Verdict on Unwinnable
Seriously action packed with growing steam, this is a Paranormal Adventure that spans the realms - and would make the perfect binge read when all is said and done. Fast and brutal, it holds all the edge you'd expect from a shifter centered tale.
May Dawson has done it again another fantastic installment in Maddies and her men's story.
We finally get maddie and Rafe together in this book and it's been a long time coming....
In the 5th book of the series we are on a mission to Fae in search of Cains shield its supposed to be an in and out, do not interact with the fae mission, but nothing ever goes to plan and the Team find themselves captured by the spring fae and taken to their keep, not all Fae want to torture and kill shifters/humans though and maddie and her guys must decide who exactly to trust. Tyson has finaly come to terms with the fact he is half Fae But will he be able to handle exactly what that means ?
Maddie,Lex,Jenson,Chase,Penn,Silas ,Tyson and Rafe Relationship has grown through the books and what I love mosf is May has shown that relationships aren't all love and happiness and they have to be worked at to truley work and that's exactly what we get you can see how the group has grown and matured together.
Unwinnable Is Full of twists and turns love lust ,Friendships and family with a fantastic cliff hanger ending.
I can not wait for book 6 to find out what is next for our group, although at the same time I do not want this series to come to an end.....
Book 5 starts shortly after Book 4. For maximum enjoyment, be sure to read Books 1-4 first. There are essential character development, plot evolution, and extensive world-building in the previous books that lead up to Book 5, which continues from Book 4 a short time later. It's six hours to the end of the semester as the now-wolfless shifters study magic for their self-defense since they can no longer shift to wolf form. Maddie and her seven-guy harem are preparing for graduation exercises when Clearborn assigns them to be Council's Own and to retrieve the two halves of the shield of Cain. They must find the first half and bring it back from the Fae world, in which almost everything is dangerous. They meet Raura, Arlen, Lake Fenig, and then Turic, in Turic's Spring Court. There is non-stop action alternated with passionate, hot sex as the guys and Maddie are either fighting or making love. A big unexpected reveal! There is more reference to a prophecy Maddie is somehow connected with. Blake and Skyla are swept into danger. With Chase gone and no one there to protect them, they are kidnapped by Alice and some wolves. Their desperate rescue is just barely successful. Now the team must go to Silas's Greyworld for the other half of the shield - on to Unstoppable...
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "UNWINNABLE" Another extremely well written book in this awesome series by May Dawson it's full of emotion, intrigue, suspense, angst, hot steamy scenes, drama, non stop action, twists that have you sitting on the edge of your seat a defintely page turner. Maddie and her seven men have to journey to the Fae world with rebel magicians in hopes to to fix the Cain Shield that's broken it's what will restore the shifters abilities to transform back to wolves. Tyson will have to deal with his Fae roots to take them all into the Fae world alive & to save Silas's friends and fight an evil warlord and a corrupt government. Rafe and Lex need to graduate so the Alpha Council will agree their a team's meant to be together so if they do the impossible on this journey and prove themselves it could work. I love Maddie and her men it was so hot when her and Rafe take it to the next level and finally have sizzling steamy sex Soooo good I defintely recommend to this amazing well written story with awesome entertaining engaging characters I can't wait to see what's next.
First of all, I was so frustrated with Tyson after what happened in book 4, and this continued a little into book 5. Thankfully that was redeemed slightly by the fact that Rafe finally graduated, and you know what that means right...Maddie and Rafe could finally get down and dirty and that's exactly what they did.
The team had one mission for this book, to retrieve the Shield of Cain, but as we know with Maddie and her men it's never that simple. Eventually, the team gets split but are they as strong when they aren't together. The mission was never going to be simple but complications along the way make it that much harder especially for Maddie. Not only are there the complications of going to the Fae realm to retrieve half the shield but back at home, it's hard to know who can be trusted.
This book is a perfect mixture of action, adventure, and steamy scenes between Maddie and her men. Looking forward to the final book in this series but I know I'm going to miss all these characters once its over.
May Dawson has created an incredible series and while I am completely addicted to this one and absolutely enthralled with all of our main characters, I have to admit this one hurt me. I won’t give spoilers as to what happened or to whom. I will leave that to you to find as you read it. Yes, I know, it is a book but it hurts my soul when my favorite characters ache or things happen that although you may have had an inkling it still felt shocking when the author tormented us that way. Haha. This is an amazing book and should have 5 stars but in this one it had so many things left uncorrected and misused or switched around that either the editor just didn’t follow through or hopefully the unedited version was published and can be corrected and I can change my rating. Yes, I have jokes before about this issue but it has gotten progressively worse and I am unable to overlook it at this point, otherwise the book is a great addition to the series.
This is the first book in the series that I’ve given less than 5 stars. It’s the first book that dragged. The sex scenes were mostly unimaginative and didn’t add to the story. Perspectives from previously minor characters were added. A lot seemed to exist just to tie this story to a different series by the author. And the worst thing for me is that one of the male characters seems to have flatlined and become shallow. Without a specific spoiler, we still don’t have his back story, he doesn’t seem remotely self aware, and nobody is calling him out for not getting his head out of his nether region. I absolutely will finish this series, but I also hope that the editing improves, the plot moves quickly, and that there is less bouncing around between worlds. Every character repeatedly says that they are stronger as a team, then the author keeps splitting them up.
This is the fifth book in the series and fir those worrying if the plot has run outta steam, be rest assured the book is full of nonstop action and plenty of twists and turns. For those who’ve been following this series will be ecstatic to know that a certain guy who has been fighting the pull in the beginning and waiting til he graduates will be finally be getting his girl. Rafe fans rejoice!! The scenes between then are not disappointing! This book focuses on Tyson( who is holding back for his reasons) ave the groups journey into the the Fae world. There they meet a group of fae, and the action scenes are so well written- that’s one of the reasons I fell in love with Mays work. Another great read and the set up for the final book does end on a cliffhanger so be prepared. This series will not be lost on my kindle
Happy dance, Happy Dance, Happy Dance! The previous books in this series were brilliant but this one takes things up another level which i didn't think was possible! Its an amazing read!!!!! The twists and turns are more intense than anything i have had read from May before and some of them are real shockers. There are high's and low's plus real moments of joy. in fact this entire series throws your emotions into a washing machine. Sizzle meter is off the charts when Maddie and Rafe eventually get together and you will feel yourself either punching the air for joy or sat their saying thank...............for that.. Seriously, if you have not read any of this series yet then you need to get on board because there is only one book to go before this emotional roller coaster of a series is over.
I have been waiting for this book, the build-up starting from book one, for the Maddie and Rafe relationship turmoil to finally get sorted and let me tell you – in this book it gets sorted and then some! We also get a look into the Fae world where the next mission takes them to retrieve the first half of the Shield of Cain, which is needed if they have any hopes of gaining back their ability to shift. All the packs miss their wolves and though no one knows for sure, rumors are surfacing that Maddie is responsible for their loss and her guys are prepared to do whatever it takes to keep her safe from any accusations and harm that may come from the fallout. They have been training and planning for months for their mission to the Fae. A quick in and out is what they are preparing for, yet of course nothing is ever that simple for this crew. Massive twists and turns, major shockers, life and death, new allies and enemies, secrets, lies, betrayal, authority challenged, loyalty tested, team division, heartache and joy – so much happens in the pages of this book. The fractures are painful to see but necessary for the growth and potential of these characters along with the complete emotional disarray. This is definitely the best yet in the series and I am really looking forward to the next and final book in the series where they visit Greyworld, Silas’s home.
OmG! This book was the perfect amount of adventure, drama, excitement and steamy lovers quarrels! The team is fighting the good fight and looking to get back their inner wolves which have been taken away by the Day witches. They are exploring the beautiful yet horrifying Fae world and looking for the first half of the shield that will help the packs to get their wolves back. There are so many twists and turns that keep the reader intrigued the whole way through. Cannot wait to see how this all ends! Will the team all be together in the end? Will love prevail? Will they all make it out alive? The characters have all evolved so much throughout the series and May Dawson has done it again! I'm obsessed!
Maddie, a pack princess that embraces magic, and her band of merry and not so merry men have accepted that things are not all sunshine and rainbows after the events in Unforgivable. As the story progresses another dangerous mission awaits them, not all friendlies are allies, and the cost may not be easy to pay. May Dawson’s Unwinnable will leave you gripping your seat as Maddie and family are thrust into situations that you are certain are unwinnable. Now I only need to wait to see if there is a happy ending in sight for them in the next book.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
Finally what I have been waiting for. Ever since book one I have been waiting for Maddie and Rafe's relationship to reach what it was supposed to. From the rocky road that they have had to get to this point, to getting everything sorted out. There is just the right amount of drama, tension, steamy and adventure. The team is working well together, they will need every bit of team work to get their inner wolves back. I enjoyed the Fae world, and all the dark shady things that go on there. Added a nice edge to the story.
There is so much happening here, with twists and turns and things coming out of no where. Well done May, you have created a fantastic world that kept my interest all the way through by telling a great story with great characters.
5 stars for Unwinnable by May Dawson. This is book five in Their Shifter Academy series. “It’s not easy to convince people to believe in a hero, in a world like this. And if people don’t believe in heroes, they can’t believe in themselves.” May Dawson has taken us on yet another fantastically epic ride. This book picks up about 3 months after everything happens with the Dark Collar. We also get the moment we have been waiting for – MADDIE AND RAFE! IT IS SO HOTTT!!!!! The group has to get Cain’s Shield by going to the Fae World, but once they get there everything is tested. While I will say each person seems to grow in this book, the relationships are tested. I loved this book. These books just keep getting better and better, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
There was so much going on in this book, I was never bored for a moment. It was fast paced and wonderful… filled with glimpses of their everyday life and dangerous missions.
I cannot wait to see what happens!
I will say there were still some inconsistencies. Like when we first met Skyla, she was in the 5th grade. Now she’s back in the 4th grade. Then for the majority of the book she’s 10 until the end where she says she’s 9.
Still not seeing the whole “pack princess” thing outside of Maddie and Piper, but I suppose I’ve resigned myself to let that go in favor of enjoying the story.
My heart broke in the beginning for Lex, losing his family like that. But I know he’s in good hands with his chosen family.
WHEW! I can't get over how good this book was. Packed with non stop action and an emotional roller coaster. I wanted to cheer, cuss, throw my Kindle and cry. I actually did the last one. I love these fantastic characters and can not get enough of them. I will seriously be upset when this series ends. May's stories gets better with every series and this one is by far my favorite. All a little broken with the best personalities. There is so much more that could come of this story. I mean there not even out of the Academy. I just can't give this book enough praise to do it justice. Definitely a must read for anyone.
This book has so many twists and turns that you do not see coming that it keeps you on your toes. Secrets are revealed, Rafe and Maddie get their moments and they are beyond hot, and things get more complicated in the Fae world. I love how strong Maddie is through it all. She knows how to handle her guys and it is amazing to watch. She and Rafe coming together is electric, and I love the different sides of their relationship. She pushes him in ways he needs to be pushed, but at the same time, he doesn't let her go beyond his comfort zone. I cannot wait for the next book!
Well after all that happened in Book 4 i wasnt expecting Book 5 to top that one but i was wrong. A new assignment for Maddie (FMC) and the guys - Rafe, Lex, Jensen, Chase, Tyson, Silas and Penn. To enter the Fae World to get the Shield of Cain the wolf packs. Not an easy task. Still an action-packed and fast paced one. Even more so when Maddie's pack gets separated to fight in different worlds. This series goes from strength to strength and this book although was a longer read it still gripped you from the start to finish. Im just loving reading it so much
The only thing I didn't like about this book is the constant long winded reasurance the guys seemed to need constantly and the will they won't they make up between Maddie and ty. However once they got over that in the fea world it was all go go go and full of action and drama . I didn't forsee Alice coming back for the dark crown or the guys needing to split up to save Blake and skyla . And poor skyla and Blake being turned . I wonder who the mole is at the academy why the plots keep getting found out .
This book was OMG!!! Amazingly good!! Rafe and Lex finally graduate to Councils Own and with that comes a bit of a twist! We also get some Rafe and Maddie and boy was it worth waiting for! We also get answers to Tyson's heritage in this book once they travel to Fae world on their mission. I'm so happy to see that Tyson and Maddie are no longer fighting!! It also looks like Maddie's family will be getting a little bigger. May has done it once again!! I cant wait to see what happens once they go to Greyworld!!
Wow! May Dawson can write one heck of a roller coaster story! The 5th book in Their Shifter Academy is action packed and guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. Thai is the toughest challenges the team has faced yet. So much seems to be pulling them in all different directions and fate seems to be fickle. If anyone can survive all this it’s #teamMaddie! This series is full of kick ass and complex characters. You feel their growth and struggles. I also just have to say thank goodness for Rafe and Tyson! It’s about time! But this girl loves Jensen the most :)
First off this is book 5 in a series. Read them in order is required for this series. This book has it all. Drama, fights and the build up in the relationships. The story is about the tour into the fae world and how they try to find a part of a shield that will help the wolves to regain their wolves back. A shifter without it's wolf isn't a shifter for long now. It's unpredictable and I love that it takes turns you didn't expect. I've been binge reading the series and I haven't regret it. Excited for the next boo! Alas that will be the last book.
It’s so easy to fall into the world of Maddie and her men. This book doesn’t disappoint, just like the rest. In this book, Maddie’s team goes into the Fae world to try to recover half a the shield to reverse the damage the dark collar did in the last book. Things definitely don’t go according to plan, but can you expect anything less? The book is an addictive, wild ride. Definitely a must read if you live paranormal reverse harem romances filled with action as well as hot and steamy scenes.
Maddie is back with her guys, this time heading into the Fae world to search for an ancient relic that can help restore their wolves. So much happens in that world and back home. The team has to split because of those problems. Tyson oh my goodness is all that I can say. Jensen is still my favorite. The long awaited scenes with Rafe were smoking. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this ride with Maddie and her mates!
