I felt myself getting into a slump so I decided to try a little Urban to keep me from slipping further in. Let me just say that this book did that and so much more. Can we say DRAMA??? I mean at every turn and I absolutely loved it. Veah was stuck in a relationship with a man who didn't truly appreciate her. He lied cheated and disrespected her every chance he got. Catching him cheat again was the last straw for her, so she made the decision to leave-for good. A girls night out and a fender bender led to her meeting Branson aka Smoke. Smoke is freaking everything!!! He is the epitome of Hood, but he also paints and restores cars. He is trying to leave the hood life behind him to live a clean, legal drama free life. That easier said than done though! Veah and Hood spark up a connection and a relationship that leads to a mind blowing turn of events. Just WOW!!! This was a fast paced exciting journey that tuned messy QUICK-the good mess though! Veah and Smoke had obstacles in their way during this ENTIRE STORY, it was like their pasts refused to stay there. In this book we get a trifling best friend, crazy ex's on both sides and a brother who is having a hard time leaving the street life behind so you know that makes for a BOMB story line that has me hooked. While it was an exciting read, we didn't get to see the relationship between Smoke and Veah develop. Every time I thought we would get to see more from them as a couple, it was overshadowed by drama. Veah was also irritating with the back and forth, I wish she would've made a decision and actually stick with it. This is a new to me author and I am enjoying the flow of her writing, I will definitely continue to support her. This book ends with a cliffhanger and I am so excited to read the second part. This story is a page turner that you need to read.
Not the worst but not the best. I enjoyed Veah's character but she is really naive. Like annoyingly so. There was an appropriate amount of drama but the level of Shantels crazy didn't really match her background with Branson (hate that name choice BTW doesn't fit his character IMO) I also wasn't feeling Bricks hatred toward his brother. It didn't make sense because they were all each other had growing up so it would make more sense that his character would be more loving towards his brother versus his jealousy of Branson's power in the streets (that he doesn't even want or brag about). I would understand being a little resentful but the amount of hatred Brick had towards his brother made me not like his character as much. I was waiting for Brick to turn against his brother because that was how his character was being portrayed. I really hope that's not the case and he comes to his senses in book 2 and grows up. Aside from those few things I enjoy reading this book overall.
Veah, in the beginning of this book had enough going on in her life to make the average woman head hurt. She was in a relationship with a lying, cheating snake of a man that gave 0 fcks about how she felt or how much time she put in.
Then, there's her best friend Maya. At 1st you kind of root for the best friend until you realize on the slick, that the friend is a snake. Maya got on my nerves and I promise you, I wanted somebody to snatch a knot in her tail.
Where's there's Smoke there's fire. Smoke is the ultimate book-babe. He's demanding when he needs to be but oh so gentle. He's a protector and a provider. He got his head on straight but there's a problem and his problem is Shantel.
Shantel was married to a man that cheated on her so she went and found comfort in Smoke. Smoke being who he is, told her he didn't do relationships. He had one thing on his mind and one thing only until he met Veah.
Now, Shantel on her, 'if I can't have him then nobody else can' type of foolishness. Shantel ain't playing fair and I'm here for it.
This book is a whole mess but in a good way. I couldn't put it down. I'm on to the next installment because I wanna know what happened to Veah after Shantel showed up.
This is this authors debut and what a great one it was. This storyline has all the elements of a classic. It has passion, romance, conflict, family, love. There were things I didn't see coming and parts that triggered emotions. She's a new author to definitely watch out for.
Yasss! First of all I love the cover and it says so much about the book. I love me some Smoke and I really like him for Veah. The story has a good flow and the drama was good. I enjoyed reading it and I'm excited for pt 2!
This is the second book I've read by this author I must say it is a wonderful read. With minor grammatical errors the story was still interesting and I was not disappointed. Looking forward to reading the next book to this story.
This author is new to me and I must say I’m impressed. She wrote a page turner. Smoke is bae all day. This book has all the ghetto hood love backstabbing cheating a girl could ask for. I’m excited to read part 2 great job
Lately all the stories have the females acting real crazy over the men in the tale. Whew, its some crazy in this story. And Smoke did not ask to be worshiped.
